German Visa and the Auslanderbehorde
Getting a German visa was the first step and the first hurdle to working and living in Berlin.
On the surface it’s quite a simple process. You just need to
a. Prove you’re Australian (or from New Zealand or Canada for that matter) b. Prove you have ~€2000 and c. Prove you have health insurance for the duration of your stay.
I had all three pretty easy. The trick is that in Germany to get any visa you need to have a registered residence. Which means to get a visa I need to live here, which I can only do once I have a visa. Nice infinite loop there German visa office.
I got around it like many others have by registering my ‘home’ as the hostel I was staying in. Trouble was no hostel wants you to do it. So it took me 18 hostels and a little begging-with-desperation-in-my-eyes for it to finally happen.
But I got it
Jack 1 : Ausländerbehörde 0 (or probably more like 3 or so but whatever don’t take this victory from me)
