Made Up Fic Title: Carried by Thunder
(if you are playing - if not do with that what you will. 🤣)
Dude, you activated some part of my brain with this.
You've always loved storms.
Anything that meant rain and fast winds, honestly. If you could say it out loud without getting odd looks, you'd say hurricanes were your favorites. You liked seeing nature's destructive side, how you could feel thunder in your body, hear the wind howling, see when lightning sparked, the smell.
You swore you slept better on those days.
Born days after your mother's due date and right in the middle of one; your uncle always made the joke that you pointedly waited for the storm that had been forecasted to come, just so you could witness it.
The child of a fisherman in a small-big island, loving the one thing that could take its father away in the blink of an eye.
Oh, the irony, Uncle Martín would say between laughter.
Your mother swore up and down that, as a baby, you'd get quieter on those days. Not scared quiet, aware quiet, like the rumbling thunder and howling wind was talking to you, whispering secrets in your ears.
Your siblings would mention how they'd find you by the windows during storms, staring as the wind fought the trees and everything in its way. On your first hurricane, they found you in the living room, sitting on the floor in the dark, eyes glowing as the wind howled outside.
Your mother understood then and there what she had given birth to.
A storm child, carried by thunder and angry grey clouds, wrapped in howling winds and lightning and smelling of rain and electricity.
A nightmare for her ancestors and the town elders.
For her? Just her child, quiet and calm, loving and well behaved.
Keeping such a secret grew harder as you grew, as you spoke, as more signs popped up. You had grown into such a wild thing, and everybody could tell something was different. The town you lived in was small, everybody knew everybody; gossip always spread like wildfire.
