 “Annette! Tu m'as manqué!” Louis grins upon seeing her, even if he does end up fumbling the end of his spin trying to stop from tumbling over as she pounces on him. Having so many relatives floating around somewhere at Maladh, every day it’s only been a matter of time before Louis has run into at least one of them, but he’s definitely happy about that.. “Of course I’d love it. Maman always tells such exciting stories about going to school there. Wood nymphs singing while you eat definitely beat the Fat Friar appearing right through your dinner.”

“Thanks,” Louis grins, a little sheepish. He’s used to friends or family saying things like that, but it’s always a little different when someone he doesn’t know comments on his dancing. “A dancer? Uh... not exactly. It’s just for fun really, my technique is probably all wrong. Mémé took me to the theatre when I was younger and since then, I’ve kind of been hooked.”

Danny glanced at something that moved off to the side; he had to do a double-take to catch it, then turn to see someone who was rather excited. “Can’t go back to Hogwarts when you have Aquaria to visit, my man! Not as grand as this, but probably better than the dusty old castles I hear about Hogwarts…”

Louis manages to pull out of his next spin without losing his footing too much; at least meaning he’s not about to go crashing off to the side. The interruption doesn’t bother him, he’s not about to turn up the chance to chat with someone new, someone not from Hogwarts just to keep going. 

“Isn’t that the underwater school?” Louis asks, “is it really that great? Because we have an underwater dorm at Hogwarts. I mean, kind of underwater if the lake counts, and apparently it’s just really gloomy.” His nose scrunches just imagining it. He’s not seen the Slytherin dorms for himself, but it doesn’t really sound like his cup of pumpkin juice. “And damp.”

As if Louis wasn’t already impressed with what he’s seen since being at Maladah, discovering just how much more useable space there is here has certainly sealed the deal. Hogwarts is huge, of course, but finding space to run through a routine without worrying about crashing into bookshelves or cold stone walls or even the odd wandering ghost has proven tricky in the past.

“Okay, you’re definitely going to have to DRAG me back to Hogwarts at this rate.  This place just gets better and better. I mean, come on! Look how much room  I have to move here.”

“It’s pretty amazing. We have to isolate ourselves in a damned island in a stone castle.” Not that he didn’t love Hogwarts, but it was more the people that he loved rather than its history or amenities. Its history was rich, but it was also a bit stained with what had all occurred there. And it was certainly behind on the times if Maladh could ‘hide in plain sight’ in a resort as immaculate as this. 

James chuckled lowly at his cousin’s bursting excitement. “No one can blame you for wanting to look around. Most of us are wanting to do the same thing and maybe when this is all through, we can go as a family or something. May be more convincing for us to travel in a group rather than on our own.” He would have to review what the rules were concerning what they were allowed to do and what the curfew was, especially considering now his Map was useless and wasn’t going to be able to get him out of being caught. 

“In a cold stone castle, you mean. I don’t think I’m ever going to want to go back to having to spend winter nights in the castle after being here.” Hogwarts will always be something of a second home for Louis. How could it not be after how much time he’s spent there and how many memories he’s built? But it definitely seems to pale a little in comparison to the facilities available at Maladh. 

“Are you sure that’s really such a good idea, James?” Louis asks. The notion of gathering all of their gaggle of relatives together for a spot of sightseeing is definitely an amusing one, and the image alone almost makes Louis laugh. “I’m not sure if this place is ready for our family all together in one place just yet.”

     “Right!!” Vic said, more excited to be away from Hogwarts then she really wanted to admit. Especially during her last year. “Maman was right about telling us to do this, even if I’m a bit on edge about it, she was right. As ALWAYS.” Smiling at Lou and his wonderment, she couldn’t help but emit the same level of excitement. Her whole entire family was here, from far and wide, for her last year of school she’d be with all of them. It was a dream come true. 

     “Actually, knowing her, she’ll have an even better story to tell us that we don’t already know. She’s lived NINETY lives, that one.”

"Maman is always right,” Louis agrees with a laugh, “and I’m pretty sure dad has been telling us that since before I could even talk.” 

He can’t help the grin that curls over his face upon seeing Vic. He’s never really been a homebird, but Louis has always loved every chance he gets to spend time with his family, in particular his sisters, even if it does tend to get a little chaotic from time to time. 

 “Well, it’s only the first day. We might struggle to top the whole, facing down a dragon story, but never say never, right? Even though I promised not to go getting into trouble over here.”

“Oh, that’s so cool! I’ve never been to the U.K. before… or anywhere else but home, for that matter. I’ve heard of Hogwarts, of course – I’m sure a lot of witches and wizards have, but, uhm, you know about that too, I’m sure…”

The blonde laughed almost nervously. She had a tendency to ramble about things, especially when her curiosity was sparked, but being as shy as she was, an awareness of this habit of hers made her a bit self-conscious about potentially talking others’ ears off. “I get what you mean – I go to Katanohk. Dubai and northern Canada are… immensely different environments.”

“Actually, I think all of us at home tend to just forget that Hogwarts has this big reputation. I’ve been going there since I was eleven so it’s just... pretty normal to me now. It’s the same for most of us I guess,” Louis replies, tapping his finger along the top of the table. To him, the real excitement is in learning about all the other schools of magic in the world. He’s heard about Beauxbâtons from his mother, but he’s never had a chance like this to meet people from schools even further away than that.

“You’re from Canada?” Louis brightens considerably at the revelation, leaning forward eagerly. “That’s so neat! I’ve never really been outside of Europe. What’s it like there? Is it true that it gets freezing cold there? Because I mean, Scotland gets like.... really cold too in the winter, which is pretty bad when your school is a literal ancient castle but I’ve heard Canada can get even colder than that so— uh...” Realising that he’s been letting his excitement get away with itself, Louis trails off his torrent of questions with a sheepish smile. “Never mind. I get a bit carried away sometimes and apparently it can be a bit annoying. You don’t need to answer all of that if you don’t want to.”

“Muggles, hmm? Should we go meet some?” he laughed. Muggles were mostly harmless, but now he was curious if any of them would understand him because of the bracelet they gave the students. Runes wasn’t his strong suit.

“Well, you might need to find another way to send a letter to your mum – I’m not sure if Dubai even has owls, or if owls could even travel that far!”

“I wish! I don’t think I’d be exactly allowed to go asking muggles about whether they notice all these magical people wondering around though, so we probably shouldn’t,” Louis replies with a laugh. It doesn’t stop him being curious though. Reading about the magic involved in a school like this doesn’t really satisfy his need to find out how it all ready works; or how the muggles here live compared to the muggles back in the U.K. 

“I think if anyone would find a way to get a letter to us over here, it would be maman.” It’s a good point though. Louis hadn’t even considered how international post worked before now. “Although...you might have a point. Our owl has definitely seen better days...”

     to answer the question they heard plainly: yes, they could believe that this was a school. but it was quite amazing. there was nothing wrong with durmstrang, except it wasn’t really the type of place that luc enjoyed being at. 

     “ i’d be surprised if my mother even asked how i’m doing, let alone where i am, “ they responded to the boy. “ i’m excited to explore this place. maybe lounge by the pool for a bit. anywhere but being in durmstrang for the year. maybe the aliens will kidnap me before the year’s up. “

“Oh, sorry. I mean, it’s her loss then. She’ll just be missing out on all the stories about all the fun you had here,” Louis replies, accepting the response without much fuss. Louis Weasley is many things, but tactless isn’t one of them.  As nosy as he can be, he’s not about to go sticking his nose into the family life of someone he’s only just met. 

"I guess Durmstrang is pretty different to this place too. I’m not sure you’ll have much luck on the alien front but— wait, there’s a pool here?”

Truth be told, Vegas had never roamed particularly far from her home in Montreal other than while in transit to Katanohk. It wasn’t for lack of interest, of course – she’s done plenty of adventuring on her own but having no means of transportation other than her bike, the adventuring was often limited to her beautiful city. To have the opportunity to visit another wizarding school, much less an entirely different country? She could hardly believe how lucky she was.

             “I take it this isn’t your school, then?”

“I wish,” Louis answers with a laugh. He hadn’t really been expecting anyone to talk back to him, he’d only really been talking to himself rather than starting a conversation; but he’s not about to turn down the chance to speak to someone new, and someone from another school at that. Louis has never been the shy sort. 

“Alright, so that sounds a bit bad. It’s not like my school is awful or anything,” he tacts on quickly with a small shake of his head. He shifts to face the new girl so he can properly talk to her. “I go to Hogwarts, you know, in the U.K? And it’s brilliant there, it really is, but it’s just... so different to this place. I guess you don’t go here either though if you’re asking me if I do?”

“You could say the same about Hogwarts though!” Maladh’s ballroom was grand, perhaps even charmed to fit the thousands of students attending the competition. Their stay at their new host school had just begun. “Not homesick yet, are we?”

“But Hogwarts isn’t anything like this! There are muggles like, right there! I mean, not right here, obviously, but really close by and they just don’t seem to notice all this magic right under their noses!” It’s clearly the result of magic way beyond what Louis is capable of casting, or even focusing on long enough to learn the theory behind, but it doesn’t stop him being fascinated with it nonetheless. 

“Homesick?” Truthfully, until now, it’s not really registered just how far away from home they all are here. It’s strange thinking that Shell Cottage isn’t just a few hours away by train anymore. “Not really? I always miss home a bit when I’m not there, but it’s just like being away at school, really, isn’t it?”

James was entranced by the school as well, eager to explore what it had to offer. He found the concept beyond intriguing. Not only was it among muggles, it was in a resort. Incredibly nicer than having to reside in a stone castle that was centuries old, not that Hogwarts didn’t have its own appeal.

Grinning at his cousin, James clapped Louis’ shoulder. “Pretty damn unique, isn’t it? I think we would be hard pressed to find anything like this in the entirety of the United Kingdom.”

"You’d probably struggle to find anywhere like in Europe too!” Louis positively beams, wasting absolutely no time on greetings before launching into his excitement. “I mean, I was expecting that, you know? I stayed up like, all night the other week reading about this place but that’s nothing like actually seeing it. And the muggles don’t even seem to notice! How amazing is that?” 

More than anything, Louis wants to get out there and explore. He’d taken his potion from St. Mungo’s that morning, and it had let him focus enough to make it through the day so far; but now that they’re finally here, with so much to stimulate his curiosity, Louis is getting restless again. He turns to grin up at James properly, his leg bouncing underneath the table. “I just want to have a proper look around already. It’s killing me staying in here, but I promised maman I’d at least try not to wander off anywhere I’m probably not allowed on the first day here. Or, any day, really.”

Louis has been lucky enough to visit a lot of amazing places in his life—the Château de Versailles is still one of his favourites—but Maladh Academy is unlike anything he’s seen before. Having been too swept up in the rush of the welcoming feast, he’s not had a proper chance to explore outside of the grand ballroom just yet and he’s practically itching to get out there and nose around a little.

—– ✧ hi there!! i’m kai. i’m 22 and from the uk and honestly, i am super stoked to be here already??? also bless u all for having so many characters, i am so here for that and probably, hopefully will join you with my own small army of roles one day. i am so excited to start exploring louis properly and getting to interact with all of your amazing characters?? so here is a bit of an infodump about the little weasley nugget and some vague, potential connections!! heads up that there’s talk about adhd in here so y’all know what to expect!! cha chas out real smooth.

i’m gonna keep family history/relationships vague for now bc i wanna get a feel for everyone’s awesome take on these characters and chat to you all before i work out where louis fits in the great big mix that is the weasley-potter-granger-halfthewizardingworld extended family although my immediate gut feeling is that he loves them all a lot regardless of whether that’s returned or not yikes

i def see louis as having ADHD which he probably takes some kind of medication (potion from st. mungo’s??) to help with but i feel like he’d generally pretty open about having ADHD (or i guess..... whatever diagnosis is the equivalent in the wizarding world)

he ends up getting pretty frustrated about it quite a lot though because he knows he’s not stupid, he wants to learn, he knows the material but often he just can’t focus long enough to show his knowledge or remember every single instruction which really upsets him. he’s brilliant, if he could just get stuff done.

he struggles to admit he needs help sometimes, and thinks that sometimes it’s just easier and less humiliating to act like he understands (which only leads him to be really stressed trying to understand it on his own later) or to act angry to distract from the fact that he’s having trouble. he’s definitely snapped at people close to him before when he’s worked up or stressed out because of this, and probably will again. 

can tend to hyperfocus on things. if he finds something that interests him, he can often end up obsessing over it and won’t stop thinking/talking/researching it, which can often annoy people who don’t know him well. in these cases, there are times where he’ll put off things like sleeping or eating dinner because he’s so interested in learning more about this new interest

he is most definitely into knitting thanks to grandma molly who figured it might help him to slow down when he was younger. he’s never actually finished a project and has a lot of half-finished socks and scarves and balls of wool all over the place but he often does it when he’s keyed up or stressed out 

he’s generally really friendly to everyone but he had a hard time keeping friends when he was younger. louis is very empathetic and honestly??? a huge sweetheart. he’s got a heart of gold and would do anything if it meant making his friends or family happy. and probably even those he isn’t close to. he just..... likes making people happy.

of course this doesn’t stop him from being super nosy lmao, if someone is embarrassed and he works out it’s because of a crush or something you can BET he will not quit asking them who it is until he finds out who they like 

louis is so into fashion okay, this boy has a HUGE wardrobe and likes to experiment with different styles and outfits. definitely a fan of pink, definitely a strong advocate that clothes are not gendered and if he wants to wear a skirt to the family dinner at easter than he is going to wear a skirt to the family dinner at easter

probably doesn’t have any real idea of what he wants to do when he’s an Actual Adult so he’s hopping through a lot of different ideas and options right now. tho NGL I DEF LOVE THE IDEA OF HIM BEING INTO THEATRE AND WANTING TO ACT but being unsure if he’s got what it takes to do it but omg can you imagine louis on wizarding broadway mostly he just wants to get out and see the world and explore and learn that way, so honestly the idea of this tournament seems really exciting to him because wow?? 

i’m going to stop here before i talk for years about him

POTENTIAL CONNECTIONS

unrequited love interest?? gender has no basis, louis is as bi as they come. i feel like he’s the sort of kid who falls for people really easily. like he falls really hard really fast and most of his family just write them off as nothing serious?? so i guess? someone who louis could like, pine after would be super. especially if they’re someone he interacts with a lot and eventually confesses to them just to be rejected. i’ve always wanted to thread an unrequited crush plot ok i’m sorry louis. tbh this would also work the opposite way with someone with a crush on louis that he is just OBLIVIOUS TO and doesn’t return, i’m not fussy, i’m just after the angst already whoops.

a good friend. maybe even more than one good friend!!! he just needs someone who is going to be there for him, and all of him. someone he can hang out with and who can coach him through homework and study tips when he’s struggling and just listen when he’s info-dumping about the latest thing to catch his interest

pen pal?? yes please!! i am in love with all of these different schools and louis definitely would be too. a pen pal from a school other than hogwarts would be really cool?? especially if they were someone louis could also confide in
