At long last, the Crowley snake tattoo cable knitting chart is available!
I don’t think yarn weight or fiber particularly matters for this pattern, but given the width of some of the cables, I do recommend using a fairly loose gauge (I used at least one needle size up from what was suggested for my yarn).
I haven’t had anyone test this pattern yet except me, so if you find any errors please shoot me a message and I will correct it.
so uhhh after 600 notes is now a good time to say I’ve fixed some errors and here is a corrected chart? that I hopefully didn’t add different errors to?
How long has my internet been acting up, you ask?
The details are wonderful. Crochet pattern, rainbow quilt. the download is free of charge https://www.crochetwebsites-free.com/2019/02/the-promise-crochet-rainbow-for-quilt.html
Wow!!!
WEEK 1: YETI FOOTPRINT
A few days ago, I wrote down the words ‘cryptid-themed geek-a-long blanket’ as something that would be worth looking into. The Geek-A-Long is a blanket created by the ladies at Lattes and Llamas, a mix-and-match assortment of double-knit squares celebrating movies, tv shows, science, and all kinds of other geeky themes – but sadly, no cryptids! As a knitter and a lover of all cryptids, from the biggest high-finned sperm whale to the tiniest flying rod, I knew then it was up to me.
A word of warning: these are not patterns. For information about double-knitting and suggestions about needles, gauge, and so on, please visit Lattes and Llamas at the link above. They have a whole section on how to knit and finish the Geek-A-Long, and they even sell a beautiful yarn specifically designed for the blanket. These are just charts. My test squares are knitted with sock yarn and 3.75 mm needles, because those are what I had lying around. It takes about a week to knit a square, but since I’m designing these from scratch it may take me longer than that. And so without further ado:
This famous photograph was taken by Eric Shipton, a member of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s 1951 Everest expedition, at Menlung Glacier on the border of China and Nepal. Skeptics say it’s the print of a known animal, distorted by the snow melting and re-freezing, and Hillary and Norgay both denied believing the prints were those of a Yeti. Still, cool picture.
Designer Shout-Out: Jessie Mae Martinson (Jessie Maed Designs)
I wanted to shout out this indie designer for her commitment to size inclusivity in her patterns. In her bio, she says:
“I believe that everyone deserves access to quality, ethically produced clothing and wearable designs they love. That’s why all of my patterns are available from a size XS (28-30” bust) to 5XL (60-62” bust.) If this range doesn’t accommodate your size, I am always happy and available to discuss modifications. It’s important to me that everyone who knits my patterns ends up with a beautiful finished object that works for their body.”
Her stuff is really cute, too, check it out:
Ripple Crop Top ($8.50 US)
Swooping Scoop Top ($8.50 US)
Ripple Bralette ($7 US)
Bubble V Crop ($10 US)
Breeze Racerback ($7.50 US)
This isn’t an ad or an affiliate post or anything, I just really like her designs and her ethos and wanted to signal boost!

The Peacock’s Tale by Nim Teasdale
Yesterday I went to buy some yarn and so you know how annoying it is when fucking people put those stupid bullshit “don’t use this, wool is murder” PETA stickers on the label?
First of all, stop defacing stock in someone’s store. You’re not clever or saving the planet or anything. You’re making it hard for customers to shop and see the info they need on the label (yardage, weight, dye lot)… You’re making employees spend hours peeling the damn things off, and in some cases, you’re causing damage to the label and or yarn itself. That means loss to the company, which affects employees who probably make minimum wage, you shit bags. You want to make change happen? Contact corporate, you fuckhead. That’s where decisions are made.
Second of all, wool is not murder. Are you fucking stupid? (Obviously the answer is yes). It’s a fucking haircut for a sheep. They’ve been domesticated so long that if we don’t sheer them, it’s bad. Yes, some sheep don’t live in ideal conditions. Got a problem with that? Going to a yarn store and putting stickers on things isn’t going to change it or the minds of customers. For fuck’s sake, you absolute cockwomble, go to the yarn companies. Make them use wool providers that use humane conditions for their yarn, like A LOT OF YARN COMPANIES DO.
And third of all.
You. You precious, empty-headed little shitnugget. You complete and total sawdust-for-brains.
You put your fucking stickers all over acrylic yarn.
There’s no fucking wool in there. It’s all synthetic fiber. Basically, it’s plastic.
You fucking dumbass.

I told Miyazaki I love the “gratuitous motion” in his films; instead of every movement being dictated by the story, sometimes people will just sit for a moment, or they will sigh, or look in a running stream, or do something extra, not to advance the story but only to give the sense of time and place and who they are.
“We have a word for that in Japanese,” he said. “It’s called ma. Emptiness. It’s there intentionally.”
Is that like the “pillow words” that separate phrases in Japanese poetry?
“I don’t think it’s like the pillow word.” He clapped his hands three or four times. “The time in between my clapping is ma. If you just have non-stop action with no breathing space at all, it’s just busyness, But if you take a moment, then the tension building in the film can grow into a wider dimension. If you just have constant tension at 80 degrees all the time you just get numb.”
Which helps explain why Miyazaki’s films are more absorbing and involving than the frantic cheerful action in a lot of American animation. I asked him to explain that a little more.
“The people who make the movies are scared of silence, so they want to paper and plaster it over,” he said. “They’re worried that the audience will get bored. They might go up and get some popcorn.
But just because it’s 80 percent intense all the time doesn’t mean the kids are going to bless you with their concentration. What really matters is the underlying emotions–that you never let go of those.
— Roger Ebert in conversation with Hiyao Miyazaki
I feel like the “ma” is a huge part of what makes his movies so real and relatable.
That train ride right there is one of the scenes that stuck with me over the years.

Diagonal Ravenclaw socks with embroidery free pattern by Charlotte Kaae on Ravelry.
Just spent the past few nights working up these leg warmers. I had some Wool of the Andes by Knit Picks in my stash that needed to be used. So I picked out a stitch pattern that I liked (little 🍄) from the Alterknit book and got to work.
Finally got the Helicase scarf photographed! Using this snow day to finalize editing the photos. I’m trying to get this pattern out soon. It’s currently being tech edited. #pipernell #strandedknitting http://ift.tt/2AsAGsF
After a month and a half of work, I finally completed this six foot long behemoth!
