It was such a joy to work on this custom, I definitely want to make more fossil fish in the future, this coelacanth was so fun.
Gotta get my hands on more amber floats!
This is just to say
I have eaten
the spiders that were in my cave
and which you were probably counting for statistical purposes
Forgive me I am an outlier adn should not have been counted
“Average poem parodied three times a year” factoid is actually statistical error. Average poem is parodied 0 times a year. This is Just To Say by William Carlos Williams, which is not a metaphor for Plato’s cave and is parodied over 10,000 times each day, is an outlier and should not have been counted.
I’m not sure when this bottom bit here got added but it really is the best addition to my post I’ve ever seen.

[ID: five images of details from a larger digital drawing. it is a colorful long horizontal drawing of many animals and plants on a stylized riverside background, including a turtle, frog, hummingbird, fairy shrimp, raccoon, trout, and cicada. end.]
Details from an upcoming community mural project! If you happen to be in the Connecticut area on June 13th you're invited to come help paint. :)

There is one very important thing I need people without major dietary restrictions to understand: the distress caused by allergies, celiac disease, and other food restrictions is largely not about the food.
Do I miss some foods I can't eat anymore without getting sick? Sure, but that's not what really bothers me. What bothers me is being excluded from a huge portion of human social life of which food is a crucial component. What bothers me is the stress and social stigma of trying to figure out what I can safely eat. What bothers me is the amount of extra work and cost that is required of me to identify, obtain, and prepare safe foods. What bothers me is people treating my needs like a nuisance, as though I chose to be like this - as though their brief inconvenience to check an ingredients list is unreasonable, when I deal with this every day of my life forever.
I don't miss the food that much. I miss not having to worry about what I eat. I miss freedom. I miss when trying new foods and new restaurants was fun instead of a minefield. I miss not having to plan my entire life around the need for safe foods.
Food is such a basic human need, and a lot of people don't really need to think about it. When your danger foods can be anywhere and everywhere, suddenly your entire life revolves around avoiding them, and it massively sucks. You get used to it and it's not a big deal most of the time, but then you go to a new restaurant, or your office has a potluck, or you've been invited to a party and suddenly it feels just as miserable and exhausting as it ever has.
Luo Binghe: I will protect you, Shizun!
Shen Qingqiu, lounging in a chair eating grapes: Good luck, Binghe. I believe in you!
~~~
Lan Wangji: I will protect you, Wei Ying
Wei Wuxian: Lan Zhan knows better than to not expect me to stand by his side
~~~
Hua Cheng: I will protect-
Xie Lian, who has already defeated all the enemies: Sorry, San Lang, what were you saying?
Hua Cheng: Gege has protected me ☺️☺️☺️
Bonus:
Mobei-Jun: You will protect me
Shang Qinghua: THAT IS A TERRIBLE IDEA!
Mobei-Jun: If you don't I will die
Shang Qinghua: WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!
Mobei-Jun: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tudor Queen
Inspired by a Hans Holbein painting of Queen Jayne Seymour, these blackwork border patterns are brand new on the Habadasheress store. These border replicate the neckline and sleeve cuffs depicted in the painting - you can grab either one, or buy both for the full regal experience. As always, these are stick and stitch patterns - just stick to your garment, sew over the lines, and then dissolve in water when you're done. Easier than marrying Henry VIII!

what a stupid hobby (affectionate)
"I miss Odysseus; my heart is melting. / The suitors want to push me into marriage, but I spin schemes... By day I wove the web, / and in the night by torchlight, I unwove it."
I made this feverish, unwinding loom for @youremysunshine8 's bday, since she is reading Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey.
It's made from an old painting frame with the canvas removed. I painted the wood a darker color and hammered in a couple hundred tacks, which I strung with white yarn.
The weaving itself took a long time, since I've never done that before and wasn't using a real loom, though I did make a make-shift heddle from a ruler. The meander is woven in soumak, which means you wrap the weft around each warp instead of just going over-under; this takes a long time but gives it a really cool dimension.
I carved Penelope's hands from chipboard, and painted them the same color as the loom. I wanted to convey the "muscular, firm hand" from Wilson's translation.
Mantis is SUCH a pretty bird, and because Bug raised her, she's also the best of both worlds- wants to be pet by humans, easily hangs out with the other birds. Lets me put 4-leaf clovers on her head like a hat so I can take cute photos of her.
Felt compelled to draw this magical scene <3

you're living three lives. I call her mom "bug" as a nickname but her name name is Amber. the world is small and full of love :)
Any one know some books with good aro ace rep? I want to read some, but I also want my mom to read one because she seems a bit confused (she does want to learn though).
Plus not having to make a whole power point to come out would be nice.
I have a whole database of aro & ace books as well as a bunch of starter posts here!
I'm a firm believer in the fact that the best representation is a book that is your taste in every other way, and also happens to have an aroace character. So here's a handful, but maybe have a browse of things that seem interesting to you/her also (tho, def books of varying quality in there, haha)
I'm leaning more toward traditionally published books here, as well as modern/contemporary settings that do focus on it a bit more clearly, rather than being incidental or implied. This does mean these lean younger, which I realise may not lean toward parents' taste...
Some good middle grades about tweens figuring out they're aspec: Olivia Gray Will Not Fade Away, Just Lizzie, Every Bird A Prince, Rick
YA:
Being Aro & Being Ace anthologies have a bunch of good YA short stories about..being aro & ace. obviously not all aroace.
Dear Wendy is a YA contemporary about two aroace students becoming friends
Funeral Girl is a YA paranormal about an ace (probably aroace) girl
Elatsoe is a YA contemporary fantasy mystery about an aroace girl (not so focused on aroace identity, but good)
Loveless is one of the most known - and it is one of the only traditionally published, popular books that's about and centred on figuring out and coming out as aroace, this is what most people will probably rec if you ask this anywhere else lmao
Is Love The Answer? is a manga about a student discovering she's aroace, with multiple aspec side characters too.
Adult:
Sailing by Orion's Star (trilogy) is historical fiction about pirates with multiple aroace (man) MCs
Kaikeyi by Vaishvani Patel is historical fantasy with an aroace MC (though does marry and have children because she's royalty)
The Murderbot Diaries is a scifi series with an aroace agender MC - notably aroace because of nonhumanity, so not what everyone's looking for as a starter, but very relatable to many
Until The Last Petal Falls - an aroace QPR beauty & the beast retelling
If you're into indie urban fantasy I'd also check out Baker Thief/Painted Flock, and The Thread That Binds/The Tale That Twines
Beautyland is about an aroace woman who believes she's an alien because of how different she is from everyone else
and Convenience Store Woman similarly has a very aroace coded MC. These last two are less directly Explaining Being Aroace And Identifying As Such but very much show how it is being aroace (and neurodivergent) in an amatonormative world
Also, it's not a book, but I'd highly recommend checking out Koisenu Futari, a jdrama about two aroaces meeting and living together. It is very much about being aroace, and I think would be a good explainer for someone (if a little cheesy and straightforward in some ways, but I love it <3) Konya Sukiyaki Dayo is another jdrama with an aromantic (probably aroace) MC that I also enjoyed recently.
I don't know if any of this is what you're looking for, but maybe it can be a start!
lots of these are available through QLL! you can find them & more browsing through our aro & ace lists <3
