i will never believe people who say that there was a time when Hojo was alright and that's why Lucrecia actually fell for him. there's literally no evidence they were together other than Hojo comforting her once and telling Vincent that he's Sephiroth's father, which, yeah, sure, just trust him after all the gaslighting he did to Cloud post-disc 1. there's no flashback cutscene or anything in Dirge (and i'm nearing the end) where he treats her alright. he fucking called her a rat and only refers to her by her academic title. she's pregnant at this point. they should be "together". even if she married him for whatever reason, it had to be professional, because there were never any signs of chemistry between them and she acts like she's terrified of him, which is hardly unbelievable.

anyway, Sephiroth is Vincent's son. they were fucking like crazy at the picnic and in Shinra Manor, and you just don't want to believe it. even if Hojo had a chance to get laid (he never did), he would choose an IVF over actual sex any day of the week, like any other nazi

honestly i could go on and on about how bullshit this is, like everything screams that hojo is bullshitting and gaslighting Vincent bc he was just a piece of shit and didn't like the guy (i would guess because of his father? maybe they had shit going on between them at work or something idk. or its just hojo seeing everyone as an insignificant insect to experiment on. or just purely because Vincent had the audacity to question his authority)

hojo has 0 respect for anyone, he only respects himself, why do you think Sephiroth is so weird? purely because of jenova influence? he was treated like a pet experiment and never like a child, hojo has no empathy in him to care about anyone; i will never forget what he wanted to do with Aerith :/ alas, never trust a person who would sacrifice every puppy in the world in the name of science in a blink of an eye :p ofc theres the whole ever crisis thing with him giving seph the necklace and all that but the whole necklace stuff was very ehhh 2/10 idea to move the plot, they wanted Sephiroth to know how Lucrecia looked like so Alyssa could look like her blah blah that whole thing was so mid and not in a fun way ANYWAY BACK ON TO THE TOPIC

and like you said, most of the time she acts like she's terrified (probably after seeing what he's capable of, and even more after he actually shot Vincent with the intent to kill him), she was just an asset to him and that's it.

and in the scene where Vincent says he doesn't blame her, hojo says "she came to her senses and chosen him", which really could mean anything; like choosing his proposal to use her baby for science. also i believe hojo wouldn't touch anyone with a 10 foot pole, so either Vincent's memory is playing tricks on him to make him feel worse, or hojo immediately went to wash his hands after this pffffdksksks

she made bad decisions, so what? everyone does once in a while. and they can be little nothings or have big consequences, she's a well written character

seeing her crying and suicidal on the floor in her lab because they didnt even let her hold her own child, just ugh, what the fuck

ALSO TO OTHER PEOPLE SAYING SHE HAD A CRUSH ON GRIMOIRE AND THATS WHY SHE DIDNT WANT TO BE WITH VINCENT - DID WE PLAY THE SAME GAME? cant a woman be friends with her mentor??????? someone died protecting her, of course she'd be crying, especially if that person was the only one who believed in her and didn't laugh at her thesis, he even helped her prove the whole shinra science department wrong. i am so tired

Lucrecia went to hojo for help because she didn't know what to do, and she already felt guilty about Vincent in every way, im sure she thought she took advantage of the guy whose father died because of her - how would you explain her sudden change of character towards Vincent??? first the picnic scene and the suddenly she's pregant and cold towards him, hmmmm maybe because she panicked and didn't know who to go to and since Grimoire was her mentor and she could rely on him so she decides to go to hojo since he was this important figure and all that. when hojo hears this he puts two and two together with jenova project and brainwashes her into giving herself to science, that's what a real scientist would do, that when Vincent hears about this and that she killed his father he will hate her forever and that she should think about her position first and personal matters second

she was already a wreck emotionally so she was rather easy to sway especially when it was basically her new mentor saying this.. so she comes to a conclusion that hojo is probably right, and she should probably push Vincent away as soon as possible before it gest any harder than it already is

Vincent had several chances to tell her how he truly feels, that he would never hate her, but as we all know he was kinda confused and uhh. not emotionally mature yet i guess? or maybe just autistic lol (relatable) and things didn't really work out when Lucrecia in a fit of rage gave him a last chance to tell her how he truly feels, yet he still put her decision above all else, even if he found it unreasonable.

SHE WAS TRULY SO IMPORTANT TO HIM HE WOULD LET HER DO ANYTHING AND HE STILL WOULD BE LIKE "GO ON MY QUEEN I SUPPORT YOU ALWAYS" this story would be so much more powerful if it was yuri btw

no but seriously i do agree with all your arguments as well as the headcanon. i could reply with a few paragraphs too, but i just realized that it would be just repeating your points.

what i really want people to focus on is that Hojo for some reason is very skilled at gaslighting and that's something he has been doing most often throughout the whole compilation, from the huge thing with Cloud in the og, to little things like his interactions with Zack in Crisis Core, yet people keep acting like he's incapable of lying in this case.

and i need to stress that her getting gaslit by the idiot is not naive of her, and believing this is not infantilizing her in any way. it's actually quite a plausible theory considering her feelings for Vincent (undeniable - if you don't believe it, you were outright ignoring the plot), her history with his father, her pregnancy, and Hojo being the snake he is. she was very fragile at this point, and people at such points in life are capable of trusting anything that could in theory make them feel better. making herself turn Vincent away can be a part of her coping as well, for a few reasons.

my favorite type of an ffxiii opinion is where someone is straight up lying

like honey, there's enough to dislike about the game already if you're like me and are nitpicky. even though i enjoyed it a lot, it has some serious flaws that i can imagine completely discouraging someone from finishing/replaying it, so there's no reason to make up mechanics that straight up don't exist to make your point. it takes maybe two chapters with access to crystarium and paradigm shifts to debunk most of these claims.

you have no idea how often it happens. i feel like half of the thoughts i've ever read on the game contain some wild statements stemming from what i can only imagine as misunderstanding of the game's direction and key mechanics. and while the former might be a whiplash for sure, it should be resolved by the time you reach Gran Pulse, as you realize that even the "open" part of the game is on rails, but the latter always baffles me given how clearly they're explained in game and how wild claims they seem to produce.

[re]Introducing Aya Rasberry - FFVII OC

Aya's growth was happening very organically on my blog as the time went on, including many meaningful changes to her story, and out of her two introductory posts none are really up to date or succinct enough to do their job. Since recently I made a Pillowfort account and had to write the introduction for her from the ground up, I figured it's as good time as any to give her a proper post here as well.

Aya Rasberry is an older sister of Jessie Rasberry and a wife of Claudia Strife. She's an ex-Shinra Census Bureau employee turned florist and a hunter, only to eventually end up as one of playable party members for the original game, following her wife's son in pursuit of Sephiroth.

Aya was born shortly after I've beaten the original game, as a result of me stumbling upon a wiki entry of Claudia Strife, reading more about her and kind of falling in love with her. Starting out as a reader-insert, she quickly evolved into an established character, sharing some similarities with me backstory and personality-wise. After a few months and fics, I started feeling unsatisfied with how she kind of existed solely to be Claudia's love interest, wanting her to become much more, rivaling some of my favorite OCs. That's when she had gotten her last name, connecting her to her sister, the backstory involving her weapon of choice, and a good start for her to eventually rediscover herself as somewhat of a warrior. This eventually resulted in her becoming my most developed and most treasured OC.

Now, I'm still working on her through crafting her AUs, one of which is exploring how drastically her story would change, if the canon thing that didn't happen for her, actually ended up happening. This universe sees her joining Avalanche along with her sister and overall leading her story in a much darker direction.

If you're by any chance interested, you can read her full story on her Fandom-style wiki page. I still need to complete some of the minor sections and add some images, but her story, as well as each section that isn't filled with TBAs and lorem ipsums, can be considered fully finished.

Here's a bit more detailed synopsis of her story (spoilers for the games ahead):

Aya starts off her story in the year 0002, five years before the events of Final Fantasy VII. That's when she's still working for Shinra Census Bureau. During her field assignment in Nibelheim, she meets and falls in love with Claudia Strife. This starts a largely long-distance relationship, that eventually results in Aya being present in Claudia's house during the Nibelheim Incident, which creates an alternative timeline where Claudia survives the massacre. The traumatic event fills already disgruntled Aya with serious hatred for Shinra, as well as fear of being possibly targeted as a survivor. This marks the beginning of her journey to leave the past behind, start her life anew with Claudia, find her partner's son, and most importantly, rediscover herself and take control of things in her life that were slowly destructing her since she could remember.

After an exhausting and eventful journey, the women eventually find themselves in a quiet coastal town of Aquana, south of Gongaga, where they decide to settle down, and later open a flower shop. Additionally, Aya, having gone through her own, more internal journey, also starts monster-hunting as her part-time job. 

Aya and Claudia only manage to reunite with Cloud during the events of FFVII, through a Turk friend of Aya's who was on the lookout for him. Just before their visit to Cosmo Canyon, Avalanche takes a detour to Aquana and visits the flower shop, to the women's shock. The joy of reunion is short-lived, as both women quickly notice Cloud's weird behavior and memory issues. Aya also learns that Jessie, as well as the rest of her family, have perished in the collapse of Sector 7 plate. 

Filled with sorrow and guilt about ever leaving Jessie, confusion regarding Sephiroth being alive, as well as pure concern for Cloud, she decides to join the party in pursuit of Sephiroth, causing Claudia a huge deal of worry. This begins Aya's journey to get her revenge, once again escape from the demons of her past, learn more about Cloud, and try to make him remember her and his whereabouts over the last five years. It also marks the start of Aya's deep and supportive friendship with Tifa and Cloud, to follow them beyond the original game and become very important for both of them.

well, with Aerith too, but you know... they don't get that much time. but her absence is still felt years after - that's how close they managed to become in this short span of time.
