you're owen lars. you didn't know your brother, but you know your nephew and your nephew wants out of this place as soon as possible. you know he won't be safe out there but in the end you're helpless to stop him. and you know the stories, you remember the one time you met him, the days your mother died. and you do this for her and you do this for your father and you do this for your brother and you do this for your nephew.

I just finished the third movie with my family! It's my favorite by far, but I'm still not forgiving Anakin for killing the children. What the hell, man?

some general thoughts i had while reading tbosas on a flight:

lucky flickerman (and others i think) keep comparing the tributes to animals. in the hunger games trilogy, the capitol doesn’t need to do that because it’s been long enough that it’s accepted that district people aren’t quite human. rn, people still view the districts as at least a little human

dr gaul is like “oh the arena is humanity undressed” and snow is like “oh in the arena there’s no rules and no consequences” but like… that’s not a natural situation for a human to be in? you put kids into an arena and told them to kill each other, and then rewarded them with food and water when they did something “interesting.” like there ARE consequences, and there ARE rules —> also, snow doesn’t see the cannibalism as “humanity undressed” (he still sees persephone as capitol and like worthy of being a person even if he does not want to be around her) + gaul doesn’t see anything the capitol did during the war as “humanity undressed,” it’s just when it comes from the districts

why is bro’s immediate reaction to seeing mockingjays is “we should kill them all” like i know why, but chill out my guy

Jyn Erso is a cynical character. Why wouldn't she? She's seen is the worst in people since she was a child. She has no reason to trust people or get close to anyone.

But on Jedha, Jyn rescued that little girl from the firefight with the Stormtroopers. When the council nixed the plan to go to Scarif, she was going to retrieve the plans alone. She might be cynical, equivocal about her own survival, but I think she possesses a sense of responsibility and compassion that's not always easy to see. That not even Cassian really detects until midpoint of the film. It's notable that Chîrrut is the first to sense it.
