SHE HAD ALREADY WASTED SO MUCH TIME with groceries when she could be doing research back at the apartment. sure, they had to EAT, but rosalie still felt like they could survive just fine another couple of days on instant noodles and coffee. she felt like she was on the brink of something — close to finding out more about aurora’s origin and what exactly she was. and knowing how much that would mean to aurora…
❝ rori, i’m home! ❞ she immediately closed the door behind her and locked it with her free hand. ❝ now we have food and we can double down— ❞ the scene made her freeze and drop the grocery bag. rosalie didn’t react, not immediately anyway. she wanted to SCREAM but it got trapped inside her throat as she felt like her entire body was turning into ice. ❝ aurora? ❞
the way her voice came out was like she wasn’t just seeing her best (and probably only) friend’s body on the floor, LIFELESS and bloody. it was like she didn’t know where aurora went and decided to whisper her name instead of calling it. ❝ aurora? ❞ a little louder, but still, no movement. ❝ rori…? ❞ suddenly, like she managed to fall back into her body, she finally started running, tripping, falling to the ground near her to try and figure out exactly what had happened.
❝ no, no, no, no, nonononono— AURORA! ❞ tears started streaming like a dam had been broken inside of her. she couldn’t breathe out for some reason and rosalie had to push through the feeling of being so LIGHT HEADED to actually crawl towards the phone and start dialing 911.
she had already started to lose grip on reality a bit. she was uncertain of how much time had passed between her falling to the ground and rosalie showing up. her voice had pulled her back a bit, but she didn’t think it would be for very long.
she looked at her friend through hazy eyes, covering her friend’s hand with her own bloody ones. ❛ it’s okay. ❜ she managed a weak smile. ❛ this... was always how it was going to end. ❜ perhaps she hadn’t known, at first. but she knew now. her story was never going to have a happy ending. at least with this one, no one else had to die as well, and that was the best she could have hoped for. ❛ be not afraid. I will always be with you. ❜
aurora wasn’t sure in what way — she just knew it to be true. it was always her and rosalie, until the very end, and beyond. she grimaced in pain, but made peace with her choice, and her death. rosalie may not understand, but she would. she was clever like that.
as aurora drew out her last breath, her eyes glazed over with black; deep pools of midnight sky. her skin had slowly turned a grizzly grey colour, as if she had already been dead for about a day. the veins around her eyes spread in black, and from across her entire body, until black liquid begun to bleed out of her mouth, which began to slowly evaporate into smoke.
