When did we start defining sexual harassment as the act of saying something remotely sexual to someone that they don’t like?

Harassment is a kind of non-physical attack on someone, where one individual does otherwise innocuous things to another in such a way, or with such frequency that it prevents them from living their life, or causes them harm.

Texting the message “you should kill yourself” to someone 300 times a day—that’s harasment. Sexually propositioning someone who is under your employ so often that they can’t do their work, even after they’ve asked you to stop—that’s harassment. Bothering some woman at a bar for 30 minutes because you’re drunk and “I’m sorry, but I have a boyfriend” just doesn’t seem like a good enough answer—that’s not harassment; it’s just annoying.

It’s no less traumatising and still induces feelings of disgust and shame to be forced inside someone. There can also be the added problem of having your body’s reaction seen or classed as consent, since it’s generally much easier to stimulate the penis. Which can make the victim feel betrayed by their own body, as with women who experience lubrication and/or orgasm.

"Open Casting" does not exist

In my screenwriting class this week, my instructor explained that if you do not signify a race or ethnicity, your character will be assumed to be white. There will be no clarification, no one will ask you to explain, the director and casting agent will create a whites-only casting call for auditions.

This obviously isn’t news. We know that the default for Hollywood is white even though mathematically, according to the demographics of California and the entire world, this is laughably illogical. 

I asked him how you signify that you want open casting in your script for any race or ethnicity because you want the best actor for the character.

He didn’t understand and started talking about words like “eurasian” in the descriptive lines following your character’s introduction.

I explained that I wasn’t asking about how to denote racial ambiguity (which is another favorite of Hollywood), rather an actual open casting call that wasn’t limited to white and white passing people.

He said he had never come across this.

Never, in his entire decade+ career, had he ever come across an open casting call. 

So when people say shit like, “oh well maybe they just got the best actor for the role!”, they deserve to have their faces slammed into the nearest available surface.

It's only assumed to be white when that's the majority in the area. A large amount of the time, when not given details about a person, anyone viewing the data will fill in the gaps with whatever they consider "neutral" data, which is often based on themselves and their area. That's just what the brain does, unless you've gone out of your way to specifically shake that mindset.

Just one of the many issues that arise from having more than one culture on the planet.

Feminism is a movement, just like any other.  While it claims to fight for gender equality, it can (and often does) do the opposite.  Unless you start redefining “equality” as “whatever feminism does” (creating circular definitions, a general mess, and a bunch of completely nonsense) this is pretty much inarguable.  Feminism isn’t unique in this, it’s just like every other movement.  Remember, the dictionary is not a supreme arbiter: here the definition certainly reflects what feminism claims to do, and what many believe it to do, but that is not necessarily what feminism actually does.

You can be non-feminist or even outright anti-feminist while still believing in gender equality.  This comes from a disagreement on either the “what” or the “how”; either a belief that what feminism is attempting to create is not in fact gender equality (be that intentionally or not), or a disagreement on the methods feminism uses in its advocacy.  Both are perfectly valid points.  To illustrate, let’s take animal rights and welfare.  On one hand, you might feel that an organizations conception of “animal welfare” isn’t reasonable: they believe that animals should have the right to vote, you think they’re a pack of idiots.  On the other, you might disagree with their methods: part of their “advocacy” might involve shooting at hunters, or attempting to resettle a family of black bears in the apartment complex where their forest used to be.

Anyone who believes feminism’s “equality compass” is broken can perfectly well oppose it without opposing gender equality.  Given feminism’s track record, this is really a pretty reasonable belief.  Likewise, anyone who feels that while feminism’s goals are admirable, its methods aren’t acceptable can perfectly well oppose it on those grounds.

In practice, the argument you’re making here is exactly one of those unacceptable methods.  ”If you don’t agree with our equality movement than you’re a sexist” isn’t just a fallacy, it’s a transparent one.
