I know I’m not saying anything new here, but Charles Dickens really does capture the absurdity and indignity of being a child. I think we’ve all been summoned to the home of an adult with way too much baggage and commanded to play with another child who fucking hates us. Usually there’s not a moldering wedding dress involved but I feel like metaphorically it’s there.

Anthology of Persian Poetry, Ink, opaque watercolor, and gold on paper (17th century) Safavid craftsmen produced this pocket-sized codex featuring the literary works of renowned poets, including Hafiz and Hilali. The manuscript contains lyrical verses written in elegant Nasta'liq script and bordered by intricate floral illuminations in gold and vibrant pigments. Detailed miniatures throughout the volume illustrate scenes of courtly life and spiritual devotion. Loc. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Dim. 15.2 x 9.8 cm (6 x 3.9 in)
