I hate when people still insist that you MUST be either "TME" or "TMA". I am regarded as "TME" by many in my own community based on my own physical appearance and general mannerisms (somehow). However, 99% of the bullying, harassment & general tormenting I have dealt with over the years would make me "TMA" entirely. But of course, the people that insist that you must be either or else, will never care about my experiences or feelings. These same people will ignore the experiences of intersex individuals, even if the insister is intersex as well. I am transfeminine, I am "TMA", but just because I don't have the same experiences as other transfems, I will not be seen as "valid" or whatever. It's so irritating. Stop inventing a new binary. Stop asking if someone is AMAB/AFAB, TME/TMA. It's the same as asking what's in their pants in most regards, and frankly it's an invasion of privacy. By the way. This is some sort of asking for medical advice however I'm not asking you for diagnosis.

A huge majority of the medical system doesn't know about intersex people in my country. Also, everything about sexuality, including bodies and stuff, is very very stigmatized. It'll be very hard for me to ask about my body and whether I'm intersex or not.

I've been thinking that I *may* have some sort of atypical genitalia, be it agenitalia or ambiguous genitalia. However, all of these are just thoughts, and like I said I don't think asking a doctor will help. I'm currently left alone by myself and have to self-diagnose.

(Though, note, "CTF bodies" doesn't mean what you think it does. CTF is a self-identifier, not any set determination of traits. A person could have a penis and wolffian reproductive system and still consider themselves CTF on the basis of hormone production and chromosomes. It's subjective.

We are going to be responding to this under the assumption that you are asking about vulvar variations.)

So, to start, we have some (shittily made) sketches discussing perinormative vulvas!

Please keep in mind that all of these are horrendously simplified copy pasted sketches, and that the finished product for our upcoming intersex visual guide is going to have a lot more diversity with the coloring and lineart.

Anyways, let's begin!

If you aren't bothered by images of real genitalia, you can see this article [link] that shows the wide range of vulva appearances. Warning for pericisnormative language (ie; "female" and "woman.") (Also, there is at least one person in here who has clitoromegaly, so keep that in mind when examining the clitoris.)

Labia can be smooth or wrinkly, symmetrical or asymmetrical, curvy or triangular, thick or thin, and moderate or long. The inner lips (labia minora) may be longer than the outer lips (labia majora), or vice versa, or they may be around the same length. The length of the clitoral hood can vary as well.

For labia minora, it will either fully circle the vulva (creating the labial frenulum, which is where the two sides of the labia minora connect at the bottom), or both sides of the labia will end next to the bottom of the vaginal entry.

There can sometimes be a genital raphe, which is a line of skin and/or indent that reaches somewhere between the anus, vagina, urethra, and possibly the clitoris. The genital raphe showcases where the canals (urethra, vagina, anus) separated during fetal development, and the closure.

Macrovagina (a large vagina) or labial hypertrophy (long labia minora and/or mahora) can also occur.

Now, to dive into intersex variations [link] that affect the vulva (or that may be incorrectly labelled as a "vulva")!

Bifid scrotum: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where a penis has a scrotum that is separated in a labia-like manner. If there is no gonads in the scrotum, it looks even more like labia hanging.

Fused labia: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where the labia is fused. This could be the labia minora or the labia majora.

Left side is labia minora fusion, right side is labia majora fusion.

Clitoromegaly: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where the clitoris is larger (in length or width) than 1 cm. The clitoris is held down by ligaments, meaning it points downwards when erect.

Clitoromegaly & fused labia combo: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where the clitoris is large and labia is fused. (The illustrations showcase a lengthier version of clitoromegaly, but it can also occur with smaller forms of clitoromegaly.)

For labia majora fusions that only bury the head of the clitoris, the glans may or may not be fused to the bottom of the labia majora. If it is fused, then the clitoris is stuck being tucked beneath. If it is unfused, then the clitoris can be pulled out and tucked in accordingly, with the fusion acting as a sort of pouch.

Pseudophallus: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where the clitoris is larger (in length and possibly width) than typical, and fuses with the labia to form a penis-like phallus. The clitoris is not held down by ligaments, and points upwards when erect. It has no clitoral hood.

If it merges with the labia minora only, it will be thin and hugged by the labia majora. If it merges with the labia minora and the labia majora, it will be thick and the labia majora will be part of the phallus itself.

Penis & vulva combo: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where a penis is on top of a vulva. Usually the vagina and/or penis are small. There are 3 main types.

Type 1 has a penis replacing the clitoris, with labia stretching up the shaft & merging with foreskin, a urethra and vagina below the penis, and no scrotum or descended testes. 

Type 2 has either no clitoris or a clit connected to the glans (as they form from the same structure in fetal development), labia where the scrotum usually would be (no descended testes), and a urethra & vagina beneath the penis. If there is a clitoris, it may be mistaken as a skin tag due to the way it lumps.

Type 3 has a penis replacing the clitoris, a scrotum (possibly with testes), labia attached to the scrotum, a vagina below the penis, and the urethra either on the glans or beneath the penis.

Penis & vagina combo: A form of ambiguous genitalia, where a penis is on top of a vaginal canal. The vagina and/or penis is often small.

Persistent cloaca: A urethral variation where the anus, vagina, and urethra are merged. Partial Persistent cloaca is where the anus still merges with the vagina, but the urethra is either separate and/or the vagina splits into two and merges with the anus in one canal and sits below the urethra in another canal.

Persistent urogenital sinus: A urethral variation where the vaginal canal and the urethra merge into one.

Vulvar hypospadias: A urethral variation where the urethra is either right above, overlapping, side-by-side, or inside of the anus.

Vulvar epispadias: A urethral variation where the urethra is either right below, overlapping, or above the clitoris. This may or may not split the urethra into two.

Vulvar urethral duplication: A urethral variation where there are two urethras. One of them may not fully connect to the bladder or genitals. Often one or both urethras have hypospadias or epispadias, but due to the sheer amount of possibilities that opens up, we only illustrated how the urethras look when side-by-side or atop each other on the typical location, or with vaginal hypospadias. But you can refer back to the vulvar hypospadias and vulvar epispadias segment to imagine all the possible urethral locations.

Vulvar urethral agenesis: An agenital variation where there is either no urethra at birth or a urethra that does not fully connect at birth. This requires surgery. Due to the tumblr image limit, we're not going to be sharing images of all the potential ways surgery scars can look for people with urethral agenesis in this post.

Vulvar urethral hypoplasia: An agenital variation where the urethra is narrow.

Vaginal atresia: Any agenital variation that results in a small, blocked off, hidden, or absent vaginal entry. This includes vaginal agenesis (no vagina), vaginal hypoplasia (a narrow and/or short vagina), vaginal septums (skin tissue that blocks parts of the vagina), or hymenal variations (hymens that block or hide part of the vagina.)

If a person with the shallowest versions of vaginal hypoplasia has a cervix, it will be visible externally.

Vaginal agenesis may have a small dimple. There may or may not be a hymen.

Transverse vaginal septum: A septum that stretches across horizontally, partially or fully blocking the vagina.

Longitudinal vaginal septum: A septum that stretches horizontally, splitting the vaginal canal into two spaces. The illustrations have it split in an even manner, but the split could be uneven too.

Obstructed hemivagina: A septum that is within the canal, creating a pouch.

But LVS and obstructed hemivagina often occur alongside cervical duplication.

Imperforate hymen: A hymen that fully covers the vaginal entry.

Microperforate hymen: A hymen that leaves only a small hole into the vaginal entry.

Cribriform hymen: A hymen that leaves only multiple small holes into the vaginal entry.

Septate hymen: A hymen that stretches across the vaginal entry, making it appear as though there are multiple canals, when in reality there is only one.

Sleeve hymen: A hymen that juts out like a sleeve. It is sometimes frilly, and may or may not merge with the lower labia minora. It could be rigid or capable of being pushed aside or folded back to reveal more of the vaginal entry):

Clitoral hypoplasia: An agenital variation where the clitoris is smaller than 2 millimeters in length and/or width.

Clitoral agenesis: An agenital variation where the clitoris is absent.

Labial hypoplasia: An agenital variation where part or all of labia (minora or majora) is absent. For labia majora hypoplasia, the vulva either merges straight into the thighs smoothly, or there is wrinkly empty skin where the majora typically would be.
