Sunder's name is sunder, because the phrase "torn asunder" means to split apart, which matches his ability.
A line of dialog from perceptor in the tfa comic "the rise of safeguard," he says Jetfire and Jetstorm were split from one protoform, sharing a spark. He implies in the same line that safeguard is their true form.
Blitzwing's design in animated actually is super fun because it has so many little nods and inspirations. Believe it or not, despite how different it is, theres many references to his G1 counterpart. The color scheme, the visor on the "hothead" face for example. The voice was also improvised by voice actor Bumper Robinson.
Speaking of voice actor, Starscream's had many over the years. Steve blum who voiced him in prime also played heatwave in rescue bots, and apparently made the voice actor for shockwave accidentally laugh during many serious scenes in the recording booth. Tom kenny's starscream in animated originally was meant to be a more whispery tone, as Marty isenberg didn't really care for the screechy voice of the 80s version. (Nothing against his original voice actor, according to the man) However, it was tom kenny's reading of the script that won him over, thus landing tom kenny the role. (He also voices the most characters in animated!)

Blade's holographic disguise in rescue bots is based on a younger version of his voice actor, Parvesh Cheena!
Bulkhead's kibble in animated can be transformed into a chair! The franchise seems to have a track record also with bots who are green and kind.
According to artist Alex Milne, the voice he had in mind for pharma was Mark Hamill's joker. He had this in mind especially when drawing his more unhinged expressions.
An in-costume actor portraying Heatwave appeared at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 and at Universal Studios Hollywood for the Transformers Fan Experience on June 20, 2014 (during the weekend of BotCon 2014. I also stole this from the wiki because I forgot the dates!)
