Coco, the Brim Hat Witch Spoiler tagged since it does show some stuff from the manga..but her brimmed cap outfit is so awesome, I thought it'd be a great contrast to my other illustration of Coco surrounded by her loved ones🥺

From the book What This Cruel War Was Over by Chandra Manning:
During the Civil War, most Union soldiers didn’t care about the issue of slavery and were more focused on preventing the collapse of the United States. This would change as many Union soldiers encountered horrific circumstances of slavery and it’s widespread influence on southern society, with accounts like these: “Pvt. Chauncey Cooke experienced an epiphany when a fair-skinned slave woman whose children had been fathered and sold by her master told the young Wisconsin boy that her children looked like him, and that she missed them dreadfully because she loved them “just likes you mammy loves you.” ” “When an Iowan encountered a young child about to be sold by her own father, who was also her master, he vowed, “By G–d I’ll fight till hell freezes over and then I’ll cut the ice and fight on.”Sgt. Cyrus Boyd.
True horrors wake people up in the past and in the present. I feel like one of the only recourses a lot of people have is to share accounts and footage of ICE atrocities to as many people as possible.
This quote leaves out that Boston citizens rioted over Anthony Burns, repeatedly tried to break him out of jail and interrupt the trial, even killing one of the men guarding him. They also protested peacefully, attempted to purchase Burns’s freedom, offered him free legal counsel, and petitioned the mayor not to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act. When Burns was finally taken aboard ship, they followed along with a coffin to symbolize his freedom dying.
The president called in the US Marines and the state militia (in addition to the US Marshalls who arrested him and held him in jail) to allow this one man to be dragged back to slavery.
There’s more, which you can see on Burn’s Wikipedia and on the Committee of Vigilance’s page, the abolitionist group founded after the Fugitive Slave Act to protect and aid Boston’s large community of escaped slaves & black citizen.
Anthony Burns - Wikipedia
Boston Vigilance Committee - Wikipedia
All this to say, civil disobedience to the people coming into your community and stealing and harassing your neighbors is an American tradition.
For those who do not have the moral fortitude to click on that Wikipedia link, here is a snapshot of the rest of his life:
“Burns was eventually ransomed from slavery, with his freedom purchased by Boston sympathizers. He was educated at Oberlin Collegiate Institute and became a Baptist preacher. He was called to a position in Upper Canada (Ontario), where an estimated 30,000 refugee African Americans, both enslaved and free, had fled, to gain or retain their freedom. He lived and worked there until his death.”
every time a trans man who does not want to be called a twink gets called a twink I will personally go out into the world and rend 1 parked car to shreds with my teeth. cut it out
walk with me for a moment. let's think for a sec. I'm not upset but I do want people to understand. do you think assigning a label associated with feminine features, hairlessness, skinniness/lack of muscle tone, and high pitched voices is something that most trans men would feel comfortable being associated with? why or why not?
of COURSE there are trans men who don't mind it, or trans men who actively enjoy being called a twink. but I am not hairless by choice. I WANT fat and muscles and body hair and a deep voice. and a lot of trans men that get called twinks DO HAVE THESE THINGS, yet they get called "twink" anyway. why do you think that might be?
it's okay if you've done this in the past. maybe just check in before you call your friend or acquaintance something with so many specific, potentially disheartening associations!
I wonder if the inverse occurs with trans women getting called "butch" too. because there are many wonderful butch trans women!!! but if you call trans women "butches" for traits like short hair or body hair despite otherwise feminine presentation, maybe think about why that is? is she really a butch? or is that just her body? just ask first!
nonbinary people too. are they really "masc presenting" or is that just their body? are they really "fem presenting" or is that just their body? let's all try to be a bit more cognisant of the language we use to describe the trans people in our lives, yeah? [: it's worth thinking about. don't worry yourself into a hole about it, of course! but it's something to check every now and then.
Prev I'm taking your comments out of the tags because this is So Fucking True.
GIRL RULES EP10 FAN GATHERING
The Beast that Bothers
Hey. look at me. look into my eyeballs. I know what you want from life. You want an absolute CHAOS GREMLIN of an old lady who is 1) horny on main, 2) HELLA QUEER, 3) also a pirate queen, AND ☝️...... 4) magical. And she has sea puppies. Puppies made of the sea. And a MAGIC BOAT
"What is this book?????" i hear you ask.
It is this book by @lincodega!!! PASHA THE STORM!!!!!! The year's absolute best pirate fantasy novel which will blow your tits clean off. I got to read an advance copy and i am here to tell you that it Slaps it Slaps it fully fully Slaps.
It comes out on June 30th, so you should go read it right now and tell your friends who liked Black Sails, Our Flag Means Death, or Running Close to the Wind (For fans of the latter: Imagine if Avra Helvaci was an old woman. This is the kind of horny chaos gremlin energy we're talking about. Everyone around Pasha is like "Pasha no" and Pasha is like "PASHA YES!!!!!!!!")
SUMMARY: An exiled pirate queen hunts a killer whale on the high seas, while caught between a power-hungry empress and a revolutionary conspiring to end her reign . . . Pasha the Northern Storm was once the most infamous Meridian pirate who ever sailed the sister oceans. Now, a decade into her exile, Pasha’s afterlife is being held hostage by Atle, an absurdly attractive noble who knows far too much about pirate magic—but not enough about sailing to realize how dangerous Pasha really is. Minister Atle Itaavar is duty-bound to serve the Kingdom of Garda, but as Queen Thivaldís gathers support for her ambitions of empire, Atle turns to treason to stop her. In order to destroy the Queen’s new necromantic navy, Atle plans to steal the Queen’s flagship, kidnap a washed-up pirate to sail it, and track down a legendary killer whale to bring it down. But the hunt for the great undying whale drags Pasha, Atle, and the crew of the Dog into a cosmic reckoning as they face threats from ghosts and gods alike—and the Queen of Garda is close behind.
(Also if y'all wanna do me a solid and signal boost please and thank you? Lin deserves it! <3)
hehehe click here, preorder it today, right now
Thank you, Black people in fandom spaces. Thank you, Black creators and Black lurkers. Thank you Black artists, Black writers. Thank you, Black bloggers, Black influencers. Shoutout to those Black characters, both canon and original. Thank you, Black people, both queer and cishet.
Your perspectives matter. Your representation matters. You are not bothersome for demanding equal treatment in fandom. It is not your responsibility to make fandom more welcoming and inclusive to you. It is not your sole responsibility to create all of the Black-centered content. You are not "ruining" anyone's fun for demanding better for yourself, and anyone who says otherwise can go fuck themselves. Any fandom worth being a part of should have no room for racism in it.
Black people in fandom, you are wanted. You are needed. You are loved and appreciated. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
And since they don't get told it near enough, thank you, Black women especially!!!

It's Witch Hat Monday! And also my birthday! Coincidence? I think not!
I'm so excited to see my boy Custas animated. His story is one of my favorites in the manga (okay okay they're all my favorites)
The crazy thing is, ninety-nine times out of a hundred, if you asked me on any given day "Would like to see a picture of some genitals?" my answer would be "😰 No, that's... No, thank you. I'm okay, actually." I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who do engage with the penis side of the internet, but personally, I've spent the better part of two decades doing all I can NOT to have pictures of dick and balls or sexy bikini babe buttcheeks blasted onto my retinas constantly. And yet... to be denied the penis? To have a jumped up pile of javascript tell me, a grown adult with an air fryer and an outstanding council tax bill, that I cannot be trusted to withstand the sight of a bare nipple unless I let it scan my drivers' license? I will move heaven and earth to see that fucking nipple, friend. I will walk a thousand miles barefoot on hot coals before I give you big brother bitches my passport number. A thousand miles through the desert with five VPNs just to press my face up against the glass and see the last uncensored picture of two My Little Pony Characters sixty-nining each other, and I don't even want! to look at it! But I will! I must! for the sake of our fucking democracy!
Really wish we'd, on the left, stop laughing and assuming this is ACTUALLY about strippers. I'd be willing to bet this ISN'T about some one with the actual job of stripper being somehow hired and sent to a school, that indeed DOESN'T happen - instead it will be used to target any female teacher who, like, wears a bikini on social media one time. She'll be called a "danger" to children and fired, as a cover for the fact that she's pro-queer or too far left or doesn't support ICE enough on that same social media. The bikini pic will just be the legal tool used to ruin her life
A friend helped me out by looking up the actual bill and YUP, it's to target queer people and sex education. NOT. STRIPPERS. STOP MAKING IT ABOUT THE FUCKING "STRIPPERS".
Anyone who thinks ladyshinga might be off track, here's the breakdown.
Actual bill name: Stop the Sexualization of Children Act.
Purported purpose: "to protect children from being exposed to explicit material in the classroom".
How it's sold in the press: "Ban strippers and porn from classrooms!"
Actual text of the bill: Expands the meaning of "sexually explicit content" to include the words "or involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism".
Not and. Or. Meaning "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" is in and of itself enough to be classified as sexually explicit.
Actual result: Illegal to mention the existence of trans people or admit to being trans in a classroom under threat of being prosecuted as a child sex offender.
Incase you haven't clicked on it... the above reblog isn't an exaggeration
Her speech physically dropped me to my knees.
