Just a little rant I’ve had stuck in my head for awhile
Possibly a hot take but, Tim drake taking a break from Robin is not as out of character as people are trying to say it is. Tim has shown multiple times that he struggles, similarly to Bruce, with separating himself from the mask, he leaves school for the mission, he takes over WE for the mission, in the 2022 Pride issue he actually asks himself “Who am I if not Robin?” In the 2009 Red Robin run he loses himself once Dick gives Robin to Damian. Tim also has internal struggles shown throughout that 2009 run because he cant tell who he is Tim Drake? Red Robin? Tim Wayne? Robin? Tim Drake-Wayne? He’s so far from himself and it tears him apart internally
Tim deserves to find himself, he's not leaving for Bernard he's leaving because (Just like the reason Dick left) he doesn't want to be stuck as an "accessory to the batman" He's trying to find himself before theres nothing left to find before he's just like Bruce who considers Batman to be the real him and Bruce the mask.
Bernard has so little to do with this as well, but even if it was for bernard, doesn't Tim deserve a shot at a healthy stable relationship? No secrets, no risk, no constant absence? | love TimKon so much but let's be honest, the writers would never do it well, they hardly write Kon alone well. Bernard is also not weak?? Have we forgotten that he's a trained fighter? That he survived a cult??? If you dont like a ship thats totally fine but dont dumb down a character to criticize them without speaking on the good at all you're just pushing your beliefs with no room for nuance
I can also see the point in some people's arguments though because in all honesty, Tim has so much potential as a hero, I'd argue more-so than the other main robins, yes they are all amazing and truly are hero's to their city and in their hearts, but Tim wasn't a sad child with anger that Bruce shaped into heroism, no one (except maybe Alfred) told him to be a hero he made that choice himself. he was a boy who wanted to save his city, wanted to save batman, he had no tragic motive, no deep anger in the system, but a genuine love of his cities hero's and a want to protect his home and with that love he made and choice and in Batmans darkest hour he filled a void with light, he wasn't the first to take on the mantle of Robin but he MADE it a mantle, he made it something to carry and hold with respect, something more than just batman’s partner, he was the one who took the legacy Dick created and the tragedy of jasons drag and use those colors to bring Bruce out of his self dug grave, he gave Robin the recognition it truly deserved. All those reasons make it hard to believe that he would just leave and choose the civilian life but at the same time, is it not a full circle moment? he chose to become robin and he chose to leave.
