Sitting down on the couch next to her, Logan still felt pretty exhausted as he knew it would take some time for the pills to work, but at least he could finally relax a little. Even though he still tried to not let her see just how tired he was lately. Taking the remote and going through the endless seeming list of movies, he finally looked at her sideways with a small grin and his eyebrows raised a little. “Hey, you really think I’ll have you walk home all alone this late…?!”, he asked, shaking his head just a little before facing the TV once again. “You can sleep on the couch if you want! Or I’ll walk you home. Not even up for discussion!”, he added, his smile growing a little wider before nodding at the screen, “How about that one..?” Some courtroom drama, obviously. He just couldn’t get away from work that easily, even when it just came to picking a movie.

“Always the gentleman, Cordova,” Mads smiled back at him. He was a good guy, and she had accepted long ago that she was destined to never stray beyond his couch. “I mean I can walk myself home, it’s only down the road. But I can’t promise that I won’t end up in some food coma on your couch before I have a chance to leave.” She shrugged her shoulders at his selection; it was so typically Logan. “That’ll do. But are you sure you know how not to work, Mr Lawyer?” she winked at him playfully.

“Sometimes I love a guy attempting to show off. Something about it gives me the ick so hard, I actually enjoy it,” Finn replied, completely deadpan as she spoke. “You can get good wine in a lot of places, but is it discounted? Granted, does it really matter? No. But there’s something about knowing you’re getting it for not what everyone else is that makes it taste better.”

“Really? I mean usually they’re pretty slimy and just in love with themselves - I can’t stand it,” Mads raised an eyebrow at the other girl. “No that is true. But equally, I feel like a lot of people don’t know about some of the really good cheap stuff. So let them live in their ignorance whilst we get the best value for money.”

“Pleaaaaase—” she speaks, drawing the word out as she laughs, Orla didn’t think she was anyones favourite, she was the wild child, the filterless artsy one with a bit of a reputation of flaunting herself. “— she loves Hunter.” Orlas little brother, and who didn’t love Hunter, the kid with good grades, polite and dignified off at college. Nerd. “Ok, true“, that was definitely a safe sentiment on her part, Orla liked to live on the dangerous side in most cases. “So, I guess you’re not getting laid then—” cue Orla already scanning the bar, “lets find you a nice boy to bang, your mom can hate me for that instead.” 

“Everyone loves Hunter. Doesn’t mean that you’re not her favourite niece,” Madelyn countered. She loved all her cousins, but she definitely had doted on Orla as a kid. The girl was fun - she always had been. And now Mads was old enough to drink and go out with her. “Of course that’s what you’re choosing to hang on to...” She took another sip of her drink, figuring she was going to need it. “How about we don’t do that? I don’t like one night stands, Orls. I’m not very good at the whole one time only thing.”

“Oh, yeah, right! I forgot!”, Logan replied, pretending to be offended that she only needed a place to crash once in a while, knowing very well that she was only joking though. And he so he couldn’t really stay serious for long but quickly needed to grin again. Besides, he actually didn’t mind her staying over sometimes as it practically forced him to stay away from working at home as well. “Ok, so.. I probably sound like an old man but… there’s actually people who watch stuff like that…?”, he asked with a little frown and a slightly sarcastic grin. He had never really understood why he was supposed to look at photos or videos of people he didn’t even know and who obviously just wanted to earn money that way. Having reached his house, the male pulled his keys out of his pocket and opened his door. Throwing his briefcase on the kitchen counter, he turned back around towards Mads when he heard her question. “No, no more work for today, soo.. yeah! Movie sounds good!”,he agreed, knowing very well that, in his current state, he’d probably fall asleep rather quickly once he sat down on the couch. At least unless he’d take one of those pills that he still had in his bathroom cabinet. Something he knew was pretty stupid but he wasn’t really able to function without them lately. “Just make yourself at home, I’mma head to the bathroom real quick!”

“I mean I don’t think there are people out there actually wanting to watch me pick food. Although you never quite know what people are into,” Mads laughed, following him into the house. She nodded, making herself at home as she sat down on his couch. She’d been over to Logan’s enough to know where everything was - hell, she’d fallen asleep on this couch enough times. She took the remote, flicking through the channels for anything worth watching. “What do you fancy watching? Because all that seems to be on is Friends re-runs and sports,” she called out to him - hoping for some kind of inspiration or at least his Netflix password.

“Obviously.” Orla answers, a little more excitedly than she should, she’d tattoo’d her sister, and one of her younger brothers, but his was tiny, because their mom didn’t really approve, and the rest of the family were sort of off limits too. Boring, Orla thought, but that was their choice. “Your mom would definitely kill me, but at least I’d die still beautiful.” She lifts her own drink, sipping her cocktail from the edge of the glass — Orla didn’t care for the tiny straw they supplied, all those offered was a minuscule amount of liquid to consume. “But I can’t tattoo you right now, I think theres rules about intoxication.” She shrugs her shoulders, sober she knew that Mads wouldn’t want it anyway, so it was probably a good idea she was at least sensible enough not to pick up the tattoo gun to her cousin right in the moment. 

“I don’t think she’d kill her favourite niece, Orls. She loves you,” Madelyn countered, shrugging as she sipped her drink once more. She’d lost count of how many they’d had now, but it was definitely enough if this was the conversation they were having. “I don’t remember you ever being that big of a fan of the rules though. You wanted me to live a little - this definitely would be doing that.” She knew her cousin was probably right, but it didn’t stop her from playing devil’s advocate. “Just a little one. A flower or something. Do it where nobody will see.”

“Well, I’m all for a celebration. But what are we celebrating? Do we need a party or just a copious amount of booze?”

Logan only shook his head with an amused grin, knowing very well that there was no use in arguing with her even if, given his profession, he was pretty good at that. Hearing her next question though, he quickly turned his head towards her. “No, I didn’t mean…..”, he started, only realising a few seconds later that she had only been kidding and letting out a sigh of relief. The last thing he had wanted was to hurt her feelings somehow. “Hey, you’re worried about me Miller..?”, he asked, playfully nudging her with a grin before getting more serious again. “I am fine! Really! It was just a hard day, that’s it!”, he assured her. Not that he really believed it, it had certainly been a whole bunch of hard days. And if she’d know that and found out about the pills he was taking, his sister would find out as well. And that was the last thing he wanted. “Sounds good, I’m gonna go with the same!”

She care about him more than she let on. Mads knew he wasn’t interested in her like that, but he was still her friend. “Course I’m worried about you... I mean who’s couch am I gonna pass out on if you burn yourself out?” she teased. It was easier to make it lighter; Logan didn’t exactly seem like he wanted to talk about things and she wasn’t going to push him further than he was comfortable. “Copycat. Honestly, I’m such an influencer. Get me a YouTube channel,” Mads laughed softly as she placed the order through the app. She’d been around Logan’s enough to have his address already set up. 

The walk to Redcliff Street wasn’t exactly long, and they were soon outside Logan’s door. Madelyn stepped to the side, waiting for him to let them in. “You got work to do now? Or do you wanna watch something?”

“Yeah, that or they think I’m a complete douchebag!”, Logan countered with a chuckle, trying to imagine the look on his clients face when they’d see something like that on his card. Probably a little childish but then again he hadn’t really gotten much sleep lately. “Oh come on, as if you’d need to work out that much! Not everyone needs to be as thin as a rake!”, he stated, shaking his head just a little before turning his head back around with a grin. “Ookay, alright mom!”, he joked, holding his hands up in defence, knowing very well that he really needed something to eat right now. “What about chinese..? We had pizza almost every day at the office this week…”

“I think you’re wrong,” Mads dismissed, shrugging her shoulders. She pouted at his next comment, feigning sadness. “You calling me fat, Cordova?” The act lasted all of two seconds before she laughed softly. “I’m kidding... But a mother, I am not. But you really do need to look after yourself. You’ll burn yourself out.” It was all she was going to say on the topic for now, but it didn’t mean she wasn’t worried about the man. He seemed to be burning the candle at both ends, and she was sure she didn’t even know the half of. “Chinese is good with me. What do you want? I’m gonna go lo mein.”

“Is that all what business is now? Finding a hot rich man to sweep you off your feet?” she raised a brow “You could meet a guy wearing a bin bag so I doubt it really matters..” she giggled and licked her lip. “You’re hot. Hotter.. Like girl.. I am gunna have to keep you on a leash when we go out now so I don’t lose you in a sea of men flinging themselves at you.” 

“Pizza. Okay.Well you get changed and I’ll order…” she replied watching her friend leave the room, pulling up an app on her phone and ordering the food she needed to order before pouring them both a glass of wine and waiting for her in the living room.

“So .. come on tell me.. What’s happenin’ in your life that I need to know about? anything fun? any new guys on the scene? Or at least some good sex?”

“Well I mean you know I work, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing if I found someone to sweep me off my feet,” Mads winked at her friend, shrugging. “Look, firstly you need to look at yourself - literally the hottest woman I know. Secondly, you take me to bars where I’m no man’s type. So we’ll have to pick somewhere new before that happens.”

It didn’t take the blonde long to change into one of the many pairs of leggings and shirts that she had at Ivy’s. “Did you get mozzarella sticks?” she exclaimed, walking back into the room. She picked up her own glass from the side, taking a sip. “Italian red - smokey. You’re gonna get minty notes and then black fruit.” She knew Ivy didn’t really care, but it was habit for her to give a run down.

“Honestly - it’s pretty dry at the moment. Think I’m destined for nobody I like to ever like me... But what about you?”

“I’m more of a beer kind of guy and that pairs pretty well with pizza and tacos” Linc joked with a grin. “Does that mean that you’re destined to too many bad dates all in the name of a discount? Because it doesn’t sound worth it to me”

“I mean I feel like you’re right there. Especially with Paco’s Tacos,” Mads laughed. “I mean I’ve been on my fair share. Dating around here is kind of a minefield, and I always seem to end up with the guys who are far too in love with themselves to even talk to me about anything else.”

Aspen was planning a party for the wrap of Sadie Scott so she’d got in touch with a local event planner and laughed as she sipped her wine, crossing her legs and looking over at the blonde. “Good to know that we’re here on a discount then..” she teased and raised a brow. “So.. Seriously getting into business. What do you think you can do for the wrap party?”

“Well, it depends what sort of vibe you want to go for. I do work for the hotel, so we can easily get something organised there. But I also have connections at some of the bars downtown - if you’d prefer something like that. It’ll be private though, I can promise you that.” Madelyn explained, smiling. This was a big deal for her - she needed it to be right. “But it doesn’t have to be anything like that. If you tell me what you were thinking of, and we can figure something out from there.”

Ivy was cleaning up after Zoe had left and she’d changed now waiting for Mads to arrive, but she didn’t really know when she would - considering the girl had a key so she’d just let herself in.  Hearing the voice she squealed and dropped the sponge in the sink before turning around and seeing  the blonde in a hot pencil dress and smirked. “God who let the fox into my apartment because dammmmmmmnnnn” she wolf whistled playfully before rushing over to hug the woman, her arms wrapping around her neck “They are in your drawer, i cleaned them the last time you were over.” pulling away and checking her friend out. “Is it possible that you managed to get hotter?” raising a brow and quickly whipping away to turn off the tap she’d left running.

“So.. whats the plan for tonight?”

Mads laughed at the comment, posing for her best friend before letting Ivy take her into an embrace. “Gotta dress to impress, you know... Never know what hot wealthy man I might bump into during the day.” It was more a matter of looking professional, but sometimes a little attention wasn’t exactly the worst thing. “Hotter? I’m not sure... But I just got a personal trainer so maybe it’s something to do with that. I’d like to hope so - I’m paying enough,” she laughed.

Dropping her handbag on the table, she shrugged her shoulders. “You’re the one with the plans. I thought you said something about pizzas... I just brought the ice cream and the wine that I was told to.” 

Kicking off her heels, she made her way to Ivy’s room and to the drawer of her own clothes. She could probably last for weeks on the things she kept here - sometimes it was more her home than her actually home was.

Logan wasn’t really sure if she believed him that he was doing alright but as she didn’t ask any further, he was at least a little relieved. And hearing what she called him, he couldn’t help but chuckle as he slowly shook his head. “Maybe I should have that printed on my business cards!”, he replied before raising his eyebrows a little. “The gym?! Really..?! Wish I had that much motivation!” Not that he really had any time to go to the gym anyway though. Instead he sticked to his morning runs before going to the office. “Except for some dry-as-dust sandwhich a couple of hours ago..?! Not really, so.. yeah, why not?!”

“I think you should. People would definitely instruct you with a title like that,” Mads nodded, laughing with him. It was easy to be around Logan - she liked spending time with him. Although she would never quite let on that to him - not to the extent she wished she could. “Yeah, well you don’t need to. Some of us gotta workout before we can even so much as  look at a taco,” she joked. “You really gotta eat more than that, Logan. Whatcha fancy? I can order while we walk.” She just assumed they would go to his place; they usually did. It was easier than being at home with her mom.

With the next street lamp being a few feet away, Logan hadn’t recognised who was walking towards him at first but when he finally saw that it was Madelyn, he tried his best to push the exhaustion aside. Something he regularly did around people he knew lately, not wanting to answer too many questions about how he was feeling or whether he was working too much. So when he heard her question, he only shrugged with a grin, pretending like it was no big deal. “Yeah, you know I’m a busy man!”, he joked before quickly trying to change the subject, “Speaking of it being late.. what are you still doing out here..?”

Madelyn nodded at his comment, although she did worry about the way Logan seemed to work himself so hard. She worked hard, but he never seemed to stop and it was a little concerning. But now wasn’t the time to dig into that. “Of course you’re busy, Mr Hotshot Lawyer,” she teased, smiling back at him. “I went to the gym. thought I’d make the most of an evening off work.” He was right though, it was probably a little late for her to be walking the streets alone. Mads was just grateful it was him she’d bumped into and not anyone else. “You eaten yet? I was gonna order something if you wanna join.”

When Logan finally left his office, he was the last one once again. The last time he had actually left before everyone else, had probably been weeks ago, he couldn’t even remember. But as long as he hadn’t finished his work for the day, he knew he couldn’t just calm down at home anyway. And even when he finally got home, he sometimes still couldn’t stop thinking about his current case. Or his dad. Or anything else that crossed his mind. Something that had left him feeling pretty exhausted lately. Not that he’d admit that in front of anyone though. As his office wasn’t too far away from home, he could actually walk instead of using his car but instead of walking home right away, he leaned against a wall nearby to take a few deep breaths, hoping it would help him clear his mind for once. It wasn’t very long though, until he heard some other persons footsteps and turned his head in that direction.

Walking to the gym had seemed like a good idea, but Madelyn was regretting it now as she made her way back home. She really wished she’d not left her car at home; the calories burnt weren’t worth the walk. But she was happy to see a familiar figure ahead - although she wished she was in something other than her workout clothes. “Logan? You putting yourself through a walk home in this heat too?” Mads asked, smiling as she approached him. She stopped a few steps from him, reaching up to adjust her ponytail. “Take it you’ve just finished work? Bit late, isn’t it?”

“Sorry. Madelyn,” he corrected, equally teasing but also not sure if she truly meant it, since he didn’t know her all that well. “Well then I want a private, one on one wine taster with you. Is that an option? I’m willing to shell out for it and everything, since it’d be an educational seminar. I know my Bordeaux from my Chardonnay but I expect there’s a lot more to it.” 

“Oh yeah, I could see how it would attract that type of dude. I just did a blind date for charity thing back on Valentine’s Day, and the girl I met was just…awesome.”

“Mads is fine... Only my family call me Maddie,” she shrugged. She didn’t know if she’d ever actually explained it to Jude. But now was as good of a time as any. “Look, I’ll tell you what wines to buy and we can do a tasting. I’m not claiming to be a professional sommelier - but I know a fair amount.”

“A blind date, huh? Go well?” Mads asked, raising an eyebrow. She was sure that she’d seen him going in and out of his house with Sophie, but who was she to judge.
