Rowan had calculated the chances many times. The chances of him meeting a girl he actually had things in common with, who actually understood his humor, who knew how to joke around in the same fashion, who did not think him weird or nerdy or mind his awkwardness. And the probability of such a girl existing had been close to around twenty percent. A three on a scale from one to ten. Yet here she was, right in front of him, and he was sure that it must be a dream, that any moment now the librarian would come over and shake him awake, complain and rave about how he’d drooled on the books or it was closing time and he better get himself home. As the minutes ticked by and he seemed to be very much awake, the young Hastings became increasingly aware of how a once in a lifetime opportunity this was. He simply could not let Maddox slip away. Because she was truly one of a kind. “I’d say as far as cults go, its pretty harmless.” Rowan argued, not noticing that his laugh might be to loud, but having to remind himself that they were not in a space where it was accepted to be this loud. He wondered if the fact that he was a werewolf might put her off.. if she might have heard the many stories containing years of feuds between their kind. In Hollow Grove there was peace, and there had been peace for centuries, but there were also instances where their kinds clashed. Such as his family’s murder. Though he did not hate all vampires, did not hold them all responsible, he did hate one. He did intend on finding and prosecuting said vampire to the fullest extent of the law. Maybe that would be offensive to her. Or maybe not. She was close to the Blackwell’s after all, and those were not a stupid lot. “Its not an apology, its an expression of sympathy. Cause I know what its like to have life turn things around and carelessly define ones future. Of course I can’t know precisely what you went trough but I can sympathize.” He spoke firmly, yet with sincerity it was hard to fake. Not that he was. Noticing how she was sizing him up as if he’d grow a tail and ears all of a sudden, Rowan had to hold back a snicker. “Yes. But I’m not going to go all wolfy on you no matter how hard you stare.” He was teasing her of course, the staring was not something he’d ask her to stop doing, no matter how nervous he might get. Smiling back at her, quite a few responses flew trough his mind, such as ‘go ahead’ or ‘why don’t you’ or ‘lets do that’. As he tried to screen them all carefully before speaking, his mouth had another thought coming. “I certainly wouldn’t mind.” Was what came out, and as he realized what he had said, Ro felt his cheeks heat up, and he was floored with relief when he could mask it by digging trough his jacket pocket for his phone. if it wasn’t obvious to her, it was certainly obvious to him. He was very very smitten by Maddox, and he’d do pretty much anything to prolong this meeting but also make sure another one found place. “Its 202-555-0166. Just call me and I’ll have yours?” He suggested, his goofy smile back in place as the embarrassment faded just by the sight of her smiling. Had he just.. yes he had. Without even realizing it. Which might be best because if it had been a thought trough, coherent idea it might have taken him hours upon hours to build the courage to voice it and actually ask. Still his stomach tightened in anticipation, and slight fear that she might say no. Might suddenly come to her senses and realize she was about to spend even more time with the dorkiest police officer in town. “Thats great.. yeah.” he said, for a second too elated and busy focusing on not doing an entire happy dance. She said yes! Its a yes! Yes yes yes. “Uhm I’d let you, but unless I have to arrest someone I am not supposed to set off the siren. But stick around for long enough and you’ll get to the second its warranted, I promise. Really? I’m not entirely sure if thats true, but if you have a sound for reference it shouldn’t be hard to decipher. So.. my shift starts in about forty minutes but we could go and get started now if you’d like? I’m on patrol all afternoon and night.” His voice shook a little, but he managed to keep from stuttering. She’d just said yes, so the chances of her also having some time off today was probably good, right? Raising his brows a little, staring back at her, he once more had to let out a small chuckle. “Hey Maddox.” His voice was soft, curious. “What?”
Maddox had always been a girl who went with her emotions, her desires, her impulses. She did what her gut told her. Why? Because she rather regret ever doing it then regret never trying. Contrary to what many people believe, once you become a vampire your emotions are heightened. You become aware of the smallest of details that you onced overlooked. For Maddie, it was the way his dimple showed when he pronounced certain words. The way his eyes would make her body shiver as if he could see into her soul. Maddox had never been in love before, unless, you count food. Rowan was the first man that has ever caught her attention and held it. He was funny and clever, she could tell already that he had a heart of gold. “Right? We are offering cookies and freedom. How is that dangerous?” She couldn’t contain the rambling giddiness she felt around him, the way time was passing smoothly without an awkward silence. They were able to chat like they knew each other for years, as if they were made to meet. Fate? Maddox always believed that there was nothing higher then herself, that god and angels could not exist with all the things she seen. But here was a miracle sitting in front of her. With the most amazing brown eyes and smile that made her breathless. Sympathy? That had caught her off guard, letting out another hearty laugh, her nose scrunched up when she smile widely at him. “Thank you -- we all get a round or two of bad luck plus it’s not so bad once you get over the blood bags and the fact you can never be tan again. There goes my dream of being a swimsuit model.” She joked, it was far more easier for Maddox to laugh over her tragedy then to cry about it. But his kinds words were something she needed, someone ability to see past what she had become -- it felt surreal for her, specially since she -herself- still isn’t able to accept it. Yet there were times where she was grateful that she was dead, specially when she felt embarrassed like right now. His little wolf-y remarked made her duck her head shyly. she didn’t realize how bad she was staring at him until he pointed it out. Maddox swear her cheeks would be apple red right now if she was still human. She did not want him to see her that way, she snorted out a laugh. “I-I wasn’t picturing you with puppy ears. I have snapchat for that.” she joked, her words came out in one long sentence. Maddox wasn’t someone who was easily shy, yet, this moment right now she hide behind her books. She took his number down before her confidence returned, she dialed his number. “Hello? Rowan -- it’s Maddie-- Maddox I mean.” She laughed, though the phone was still ringing as she spoke. “I won’t want you to get into trouble so -- I’ll wait until you find some trouble so I can use the button. Is it a button? Right now? Other then pretending to read -- nothing, so if you let me I would love to be your robin for the night.” She beamed at him. The soft tone of his voice made her shy specially as she leaned closer to him. “Here.” She said before she cupped his cheek lightly with one hand and planted a kiss on his other.
