The problem I have with AI art now, outside of any arguments about intellectual property, effort, or "creepiness," is that its success is still measured by whether it can pass as fully human-made . AI art was most compelling to me when it was more imperfect--that picture that confused a prompt of salmon in a river with salmon meat, those hazy dreamscapes generated by neural blender. Art movements are often informed by technological breakthroughs, and the possibilities and limits of a new medium--see the ability to paint outdoors and impressionism, or acrylic paints and post painterly abstraction. The medium is the message. I just wish more people making or consuming AI art viewed the limits of the medium and the mistranslations between human minds and algorithms as something to work with and explore, rather than a bug to be fixed.

Raiden is a terrible gremlin of the same age as Naruto (both around 5 at the start) running wild in Konoha, bit of a savy street-kid, excellent OC’s and on the fun side even if there is a bit of angst.

Raised in Kusa with Karin, they ennact their plan to not have any village have a say in their lives, when they reach Konoha’s Chunnin exam. Raiden is 6 (and so into dogs that the Inuzuka think he might be a stolen child of their clan). Angsty start, a lot of fun later on. Kid is as always absolutly into seals

I already said that I dislike the trend of villainizing Circe to woobify Odysseus.

Indeed, at the beginning of the events, there is a power disbalance where Odysseus is in danger and Circe is able to harm him. Circe is the stronger character until the scene when Odysseus puts a sword on her throat and forces her to make an oath so she will cause no harm to him. She obeys and swears she won’t harm him, and from that point on their relationship is not bad anymore. Odysseus was a potential victim like his men who were turned into pigs, but the situation is inverted thanks to Hermes' advice. After that scene, Circe is shown as a respected and kind character towards Odysseus. Like, just READ the Odyssey, it is full of examples of how Circe guided Odysseus and granted him protection. Even after he left her, the knowledge he gained from her still helps him (like when she taught him how to do super strong knots).

On the other side, the relationship with Calypso did involve rape (there is an emphasis on the unwillingness: οὐκ ἐθέλων ἐθελούσῃ:) but is not like the relationship was non-con the ENTIRE time, the Odyssey literally says that Calypso was “no longer pleasing to him” (οὐκέτι = "no longer") which means that there was a time where their relationship WAS pleasurable and consensual:

Him she found sitting on the shore, and his eyes were never dry of tears, and his sweet life was ebbing away, as he longed mournfully for his return, for the nymph was no longer pleasing in his sight. By night indeed he would sleep by her side perforce in the hollow caves, unwilling beside the willing nymph, but by day he would sit on the rocks and the sands, racking his soul with tears and groans and griefs, and he would look over the unresting sea, shedding tears. (Hom. Od. 5.145)

And, just after Calypso obeys the gods' commands and agrees to let Odysseus go, they go to bed to have consensual sex, it is said they delight in love (τερπέσθην φιλότητι), it's a shared love act, no longer unwilling and unpleasant for Odysseus.

So he spoke, and the sun set and darkness came on. And the two went into the innermost recess of the hollow cave, and took their joy of love, abiding each by the other's side. Hom. Od. 5.226

So, my point is that Circe, Calypso, and Odysseus are complex characters who do wrong and good things, and yet, all of them are presented as respected characters. This doesn’t mean that Odysseus didn't suffer rape from Calypso, the post's goal is not to deny that. What I'm addressing is that their relationship was as complex as the other complex relationships in Homer (like Achilles and Briseis). Odysseus recalls both aspects of their relationship, the good and the bad, but he doesn't resent the nymph overall.

My issue is that people twist the sources or nitpick scenes to villainize the characters they don’t like (as happens to Agamemmnon, Circe, Calypso, and others) while forgetting that there is no such thing as black-white thinking in Homer. Morality, personality, and events were depicted with complexity in Homeric narrative, not with the "evil VS good" or "villain-hero" dichotomy modern people try to force into the text. 😐 also... if you’re gonna cancel Calypso and Circe, cancel Odysseus instead of woobifying him, because Odysseus did pretty nasty things too.

"Rei and Touya were mentally unstable due to the inbreeding in the Himura family." Hell no that's a pathetic excuse and I've been hearing it alot in the fandom, I hate it. The whole title of that chapter was "the wrong way to put out a fire". They went through some extreme abuse. All five of them did but let's just focus on these two. Rei was physically/emotionally abused to the point she began hallucinating about her husband's ugly face when she saw her own kids. While Touya was neglected to the point that he was self harming to get his father's attention. That combined with how he knew about their family's ordeal and his mother literally being sold. He knew the purpose he was created for and got frustrated he couldn't achieve it.

To me Rei and Touya were one of the most similar parallels. Rei was sold married off and agreed to help her family. Touya as the eldest son was expected to be the heir and perfect creation. When he couldn't he was treated like a failure. Both of them were shoved into situations they had barely any control over until they broke mentally. Family pressure. Slowly losing your sanity over not being able to fulfill the expectations. Giving chances over and over. The difference is that Rei got a chance to heal and she was an adult. Touya was abused during his personality forming years which would obviously have a deeper effect. Take away the trauma and things would have been very different.

What do you mean you hatched an egg you bought at the SUPER MARKET

So there’s this company in the UK, right. They brand themselves on producing fancy free range eggs and as part of that they have breed information written on the carton.

I did some snooping and found that every miracle news story of a supermarket egg hatching in the UK traced back to duck eggs, specifically the Braddock White duck eggs produced by this one company for the supermarket Waitrose.

And one day my mum brings them home and says “I bought these to eat but aren’t they the ones that hatch?”

And it’s spring and I’m hatching a ton this year so in they went.

On candling we had three fertile eggs! That’s a fertility of 50% - the same as shipped eggs from a breeder!

Hatch day comes and we get 2 ducklings, Curie and Becquerel. Sadly, Curie contracts duck septicaemia from an infected navel and doesn’t make it, but Becquerel is a healthy bird and growing like a weed.

I had put 4 breeder eggs in a week after them in case just one hatched, so Becque now has two Khaki Campbell cross friends called Tsuki and Hoshi so she isn’t lonely.

And as of today’s 7am Quacking - Becque is a female! Which means she’s capable of laying eggs and therefore I have pirated a duck.
