Just a reminder that Saudi Arabia is responsible for one of the world's largest and most severe man made humanitarian emergencies. Their blockade of Yemen, which prevents food, water, medicine, and fuel from entering the country has caused a significant death toll. Emphasis here on man made as these were preventable.

Yemen relies on most of its food and medicine via imports and this blockade (land, sea, and air) has created an environment where 80% of Yemen relies on aid for survival. It's lead to so many people, mostly children, dying of starvation.

The rate of child malnutrition in Yemen is among the highest in the world with 2.3 million children under 5 requiring treatment for acute malnutrition. At one point a child died of starvation every 75 seconds.

This blockade is ongoing btw.

Alexander Alekseevich Buchkuri - Conclusion (1936)

Buchkuri conceived the idea for the painting "Conclusion" in 1904 and was rooted in a profound childhood trauma. The artist recalled witnessing a brutal village ritual of punishing women suspected of infidelity. This custom, which actually existed in Russian villages as late as the late 19th century, involved public humiliation and corporal punishment. If a woman was caught infidelity, she would be tied naked to a cart and paraded through the village. Her husband or fellow villagers would whip her, while those around her would hurl ridicule and insults at her. The young Buchkuri, shocked by what he had seen as a child, decided to make this scene the subject of his thesis at the Academy of Arts. He prepared sketches and showed them to Repin. However, the master rejected the proposal, considering the subject too dark for an academic work. [...] This plot is based on a real custom, described in detail in literature. Maxim Gorky, in his short story "The Conclusion," created a similar scene, emphasizing the inhumanity of such punishment: "A small, completely naked woman is tied by her arms with a rope to the front of a cart... Her entire body is covered in blue and crimson spots... It seems as if a long, narrow strip of skin has been torn from this woman's body..." (source)
