YES OMG BRΓNNHILDE
All bow to the queen.
Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
Um. Yikes
[Image ID: Tumblr tags that read: #incredibly relevant for academic work too!! #apparently a friend of a friend almost didn't graduate because she ran her thesis through an ai/plagiarism checker #which then scraped her entire paper and added it to its 'database' #so when she submitted it and they ran it through an ai/plagiarism checker #it marked as 100% AI #i can't imagine how devastating that would be /End ID]
Soβ¦ how did Nie Huaisang discover Jin Guanyaoβs betrayal?
For real. What was the piece of evidence that made him realize his brotherβs death wasnβt an accident? The bloody axe that sent him on his decade long revenge quest?
Jin Guanyao had let Nie Huaisang believe that the brothersβ final fight -over Nie Huaisangβs art- had been what caused Nie Mingjueβs fatal qi deviation.
So, I present to you, my angst fic idea:
-Nie Huaisang, a year after his brotherβs death, riddled with guilt, is struggling to run the sect his brother left behind. Not because Nie Huaisang doesnβt possess the skills to run the sect, but because he never intended to have to, and heβs nothing like his brother. Heβd expected his brother to have heirs, and for himself to be an artist whoβd never have to marry or have heirs of his own. He expected to never have to pick up a cursed blade, and had spent years wheedling his way out of it. The pressure is mounting for him to put down his fan, and he makes key errors in his early days as a sect leader, his own values and interests so opposed to the sectβs militant style. He wonders why his brother never removed him from his sectβs inheritance when literally anyone else would be better at this.
-Nie Huaisangβs sect heir peers are either dead (Wei Wuxian, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli) or so warped from or aggrieved by the war (Jiang Cheng, Lan Wanji) that, having dodged the war himself, he canβt hold a conversation with them anymore, and his inherited sworn brothers see him as a child they have to take care of in Nie Mingjueβs absence.
-Nie Huaisang gets it in his head that he canβt go on like this, and needs his brother back, no matter the cost.
-Disguising it as research for alleviating his clanβs resentful energy cultivation method, Nie Huaisang begins researching demonic cultivation. Remembering Wen Ning, he starts digging into necromancy, and gathers every scrap of evidence he can, inevitably leading him to collecting Wei Wuxianβs research. He uses his skills in gossip and manipulation to hunt down WWXβs missing notes, and in the process puts the pieces together and realizes that his old friend Wei Wuxian was never evil, and perhaps never even lost control. But itβs far too late to intervene, and none of his concern, really. He just wants his brother back. However, Wei Wuxianβs notes are scattered, incomplete, and difficult to parse, his notes on Wen Ningβs resurrection especially. Nie Huaisangβs hit a dead end.
-Searching for information on necromancy-based cultivation puts him at odds with the Jin clan, who have been hoarding forbidden cultivation knowledge to try to use the Yin Tiger Tally. Nie Huaisang learns more of the Jin clan bastards, of Xue Yang, and of the general corruption of the cultivation world through this process.
-He comes across the soul-sacrificing revenge ritual.
-In a very dark place, and still feeling responsible for his brotherβs death, Nie Huaisang tries the ritual as a last-ditch effort to bring his brother back to life, deciding that his sect and the world need his brother more than they ever needed Nie Huaisang. The ritual doesnβt workβ¦ the only explanation being his brotherβs soul has been damaged beyond salvaging.
-Nie Huaisang checks his brotherβs grave and finds only an arm. Somebody desecrated his brotherβs body, and split his soul. For all his necromantic research, Nie Huaisang hadnβt actually been able to bring himself to look at his brotherβs body until today. Heβs devastated.
-Nie Huaisang quickly becomes paranoid, furious at whoever could have done this and determined to root them out. His brotherβs body being split like this is damning evidence that Nie Mingjueβs deterioration and death werenβt natural. Nie Huaisang was blaming himself, maybe for nothing, and all this time letting his brotherβs killer roam free.
-Suspicious of the corrupt Jins, Nie Huaisang begins his investigations in earnest. But it isnβt until Lan Xichen plays him Cleansing on the anniversary of his brotherβs death that the pieces fall into place. Nie Mingjue had succumbed to the sword spirit especially young, but everyone had always excused it as an effect of the war. But Cleansing is not the song Jin Guangyao had played the day his brother died.
-Jin Guangyao, who had always supported Nie Huaisangβs art, who had comforted him after his brotherβs death and helped him manage the Nie sect when it became too much, had killed his brother. Jin Guangyao, who, when he was younger, Nie Huaisang had learned the power of people skills from, and who heβd begged Nie Mingjue not to kick out of the sect. Jin Guangyao, who, after the worst of Nie Mingjue and Huaisangβs fights, Nie Huaisang had secretly wished was his older brother instead.
-Everything falls apart. The Nie sect is weak after years of Nie Huaisangβs grief-induced neglect. Nie Huaisang starts noticing things about Jin Guangyao that Lan Xichen does not, like how Jin Guangyao doesnβt see the Nie sectβs deterioration as a problem. Nie Huaisang wonders how much of his formative years had been a result of Jin Guanyaoβs manipulation. Would Nie Huaisang have fought with Nie Mingjue so much without Jin Guanyaoβs influence? Would he even have been so insistent on being an artist if Jin Guangyao hadnβt supported him?
-Nie Huaisang tries to drop subtle hints to Lan Xichen while Jin Guangyao has his back turned, but unlike Nie Huaisang who had simply been blinded by Jin Guangyaoβs manipulation, Lan Xichen plainly refuses to see, maybe has always refused to see, the corruption of the sects.
-Nie Huaisang begins planning. He leans into his know-nothing persona with a vengeance, getting his βsworn brothersβ to do the Nie sectβs more tedious paperwork for him while he strengthens their defenses behind the scenes.
-Nie Huaisang changes the Nie sect, relaxing their militant style, supporting education reform, using his people skills to attract new recruits, and ending the practice of cultivating with demonic sabers. The Nie sect flourishes without even attributing their prosperity to Nie Huaisang. Nie Huaisang begins to see in himself the potential Nie Mingjue saw first. Maybe Nie Mingjue was right to keep his little brother as his heir, and to raise and believe in him all these years. Maybe what the Nie sect needed all along was a cowardly headshaker.
-Nie Huaisang chooses Mo Xuanyu, another bastard of Jin Guangshen to be the face to destroy Meng Yao, to show Jin Guangyao how little his personal injustice (his excuse for all these evils!), had mattered to him when it came to others suffering the same fate. He chooses Lan Wanji as his sword, someone who learned and ultimately refused to be blind to the sectsβ corruption. Finally, he chooses Wei Wuxian to be the soul to destroy Jin Guangyao. Nie Huaisang knows, if this is going to work, heβs going to need a resilient bastard, determined to do whatβs right even when itβs impossible.
-Nie Huaisang sets out the pieces, every tool in his belt a mirror and superior to Jin Guanyaoβs own. He smiles behind his fan and imagines Nie Mingjue proud. He finally accepts that his brother canβt come back to save him; and, as he realizes the day Jin Guangyao chokes on his own poison, Nie Huaisang accepts that he no longer needs saving.
-Perhaps he took after Nie Mingjue more than anyone realized.

I havenβt seen you in years,,,
THIS IS THE HARDEST I HAVE LAUGHED IN SO LONG YOU HAVE CURED MY DEPRESSION
This is one of the greatest posts Iβve ever witnessed. The payoff was amazing.
My roommate heard it going and wentΒ βOH MY GOD is it EVER going to resolve?β then the payoff hit and she busted up laughing
I feel like itβs pretty common knowledge that martial arts has very little to do with raw physical strength, and much more dependent on dynamic strength. For Liu Qingge it wouldnβt make a lot of sense for him to do much strength trainingβ more so endurance/speed, especially considering that he can use his qi to move really heavy things on the rare occasions he might need to. That said, I cannot decide who I think should be the physically strongest peak lord. Wei Qingwei is the logical choice, because metal heavy. However Yue Qingyuan is the infinitely more lustful and personally motivated choice.
I CUT MY FINGER AAAAAAAHHHHHHH (Iβm fine)
Anyways short svsss au because itβll distract me from the pain (being dramatic)
Baker SY (STOP, I KNOW WHAT YOUβRE THINKING, LET ME FINISH) that is unaware that he doubles as an assassin because of how bad his baking skills are. He has the amazing ability to make everything he makes look edibleβ¦. When in reality the taste is usually bad enough to killβand thatβs not an exaggeration either people start FOAMING at the mouth. (The entire time SYβs in the dark about this btw.)
Anyways enter the brothel jiejies that constantly buy his food to make βunsavoryβ customers disappear. Also enter SY who gives his baked goods out to the slum kids. The slum kids are well aware of his reputation and through miscommunication they think that SY is using them to take over the streetsβ¦ and they lowkey love it. SY doesnβt demand money from them, he gives them methods to kill the tyrannical slavers that runs the streets, and heβs always nice. So through misunderstanding and miscommunications SY 1.) becomes the boss of the slums, 2.) develops one of the most well-established, widespread, detailed information webs AROUND, and 3.) Earns a reputation as one of the deadliest assassins ever without even knowing.
LMAO imagine SJ bringing WYZ to SYβs shop (SYβs given him cookies too, heβs well aware of SYβs reputation) and watching in satisfaction as WYZ DIES after eating one of Shen Yuanβs cookies. LMAO HE BECOMES SYβS BAKER APPRENTICE AND MAKES ACTUALLY EDIBLE BAKED GOODS TO GIVE THE STORE A BETTER COVER. HE ALSO LEARNS THAT HIS MASTER (SY) IS AMAZINGLY RESISTANT TO POISON (he eats his own baked goods and genuinely cannot tell how bad they are) AND PLAYS THE CLUELESS ACT PERFECTLY (because heβs genuinely clueless) LMAO
There's this one specific interaction on reddit that I wouldn't call "infamous" but I also know that everyone who knows it knows it by the punchline, so in order to not ruin it for the ones who haven't, I'm just going to talk all of you through it as I'm saying this.
The beauty of it is that you could place that exact same dialogue into any time and place in human history and it would make just as much sense, you could have it as a conversation between sailors in a 1600s ship, a group of bronze-age warriors cleaning their weapons, stone age hunters walking home from a hunt, or a bunch of 21st century redditors on the internet, and it would hit just as splendidly.
There was this conversation about if you could have sex with any specific person from any time through human history, which one would you choose? Famous legendary lovers were brought up, queens, emperors and such were popular, might as well fuck Rasputin just to see what the hype was all about, the kind of answers one would expect.
Then some guy said he would choose his own late wife. He went on to talk about how brutal it is, that you might find the love of your life, but there's no promise that this life couldn't be suddenly cut short. That his body aches for hers and how there isn't much he wouldn't do for one more opportunity to make love to her one last time.
Now, I'd like you to imagine a pause in the conversation. A solemn, contemplative moment of silence, with several of the people present nodding in agreement that this is indeed the finest answer - it wasn't a competition, but there's no doing better than that.
And then someone breaks this solemn silence and says:
"I also choose this guy's dead wife."
For the sake of letting the full story be known: you have to imagine that after another moment of horrified silence, Dead Wife giy bursts out laughing and says, with a bittersweet smile "yeah, that was her sense of humor..."
Oh fuck that's right I neglected the most important part of this.
side note, teaching myself to pronounce that last one felt like learning a new fucking language
hey so uh next year will be a decade of dobonhonkeros. how about that shit huh.
Happy ten year anniversary of this post.
Give me more judgmental SY actually. Like I know he's the fandom's sweeteheart for whatever reason but I think I want him and SJ to be a MEAN power duo. Like if he's transmigrated during disciple days he's NOT about to coddle his peers he is infact judging the hell out of them. Like ofc he's still civil and manages to wifebeam people but he's not all sunshine and rainbows to people.
He judges SJ too but with how elusive his martial sibling is, there's not much for him to judge. They also don't get to interact much as Shen Yuan is an inner disciple and Shen Jiu hasn't reached that point yet. Plus, even if he doesn't like his martial siblings attitude it's not like he has room to judge. He didn't read PIDW because Luo Binghe had some amazing benevolent personality, there's room for some leisure (he doesn't know SJ's gonna become SQQ)
The two don't really interact much, maybe the occasional bump into one another. Their first official interaction happens in the library. Shen Yuan's retained his reading habits of his past life, often spending his time in the vast libraries of Qing Jing peak. Because he's been transmigrated into a disciple and does, in fact, value what little leisure time he has to read. This does, in fact, mean that he doesn't take too kindly to getting interrupted.
During one particular moment in the library, there's a bit of commotion near the entrance of it. It's an argument--the disciples take the chance to cause a commotion when they library's keeper has stepped away. There's a group--not large, only about 3 people--crowding against a lone disciple.
"You think you're so tough, huh? You've been talking a whole lot of crap lately."
Someone says, grabbing a fistful of another disciples robes, shoving them back into the bookshelves roughly. The disciple, Shen Jiu--or whatever their name is, Shen Yuan knows the name but can't place it to a face (He's heard about SJ but hasn't seen anyone confronting him directly)--cuts the other disciple up before they can get another word out, lashing out and striking him in the face.
Naturally, this means that the other two on standby aren't going to let things go. There's no such thing as honor when authority isn't present after all. Before anything can even spiral into anything bigger, both Shen Yuan and his temper stomp their way into the fray.
Seeing the books knocked to the floor, the messy state of all disciples present, and just hearing the volume of everyone's combined voices sets. him. off.
"What the hell are you assfucks doing in a LIBRARY?"
Shen Yuan's voice cuts through the argument somewhat easily--nobody present was expecting anyone else to be in the library since the bookkeeper wasn't here. They don't fully understand the insult, but it's enough to draw the attention away from the boy backed up into the bookshelf
"What's it to you? You here to defend this whoremonger?"
One member of the trio says, supporting his friend that's clearly still a bit dizzy from the hit to the face. Shen Yuan just stares, squinting his eyes as he looks the group up and down before snorting in recognition.
"You're certainly one to talk, huh. You're Li Bai, right? It's so funny that you're calling someone a whoremonger when you can't even live up to your name."
The disciples face flushes in anger maybe, but before they can say anything else Shen Yuan continues.
"You, the person who snuck off to Qian Cao because you caught a sexually transmitted disease after running off somewhere? You're real gutsy to show your face here."
Shen Jiu let out a snort at that, rolling his eyes at the expression on Li Bai's face.
"Birds of a feather clearly flock together it seems. I'm certain I've seen your face at the brothel. You're the deadbeat that got a worker pregnant and demanded she kill the child."
Shen Jiu scoffed towards the one he punched. He was still on guard of course, but he'd never miss a chance to taunt his foes when he was at an advantage--even if that usually meant they'd attack him more viciously when they could. He met Shen Yuan's gaze when the other turned to him with raised eyebrows.
"What?! And this piece of shit is here in the library causing a ruckus with a record like THAT?"
Li Bai was red in the face--not to be outdone by the pale faces of the other two people present. It looked like he was going to charge at Shen Yuan--hell, he probably would've if not for the librarian's timely return.
"A-Yuan, I've returned--What is happening here?"
The bookkeeper came in with a flutter of robes, holding a few booklets in their arms. They paused upon seeing the rowdy group, their expression shifting slightly as they began to question everyone.
"Shixiong, we--"
One member of the group spoke, opening their mouth to try and twist the story. And twist they did, pushing all blame onto both Shen Jiu and this strange "Yuan" person. They claimed that the two were heard gossiping in here, and that they'd gotten violent when Li Bai and his buddies had tried to defend their honor.
Shen Yuan just let them speak, his expression growing somewhat strange with each word. At the end of the story, when Li Bai pointed at him and Shen Jiu and requested punishment, Shen Yuan let out a snort of disbelief.
"Are you done? What type of substances are you on for you to recount things like that?"
He turned to the bookkeeper, motioning towards the group of three with an incredulous expression.
"Shidi,"
He began, missing the subtle shift in the expressions of nearly everyone present. Shidi?! But being bookkeeper was an inner disciple task (It's a matter of rank. The Peak Lord takes care of the peak's MAIN library. They're in one of the smaller libraries on Qing Jing). Didn't that mean that.. Shen Yuan was an inner disciple? One ranked higher than this library's bookkeeper?
"These three came in here causing a ruckus, ganging up on this disciple like they've no honor--"
"Obviously they don't..."
Came Shen Jiu's timely add on, motioning towards the books tossed on the floor when the bookkeepers eyes fell on him.
"They've got some nerve for it too."
Shen Yuan continued, motioning towards Li Bai who was desperately trying to make his presence scarce. The bookkeeper's eyes widened, a small gasp of disbelief slipping out.
"Is that the Li Bai? The one with all of the different sex diseases? The sex pest of Qian Cao?!"
"THAT'S WHAT I SAID."

LMAO it's just so funny to me. After the library incident SJ starts noticing SY more often. Their paths don't cross a whole lot, Shen Yuan is always busy with whatever the Peak Lord has him do--not having the time nor want to mingle with the outer disciples. However Shen Jiu is made aware that he can usually find Shen Yuan in a library--usually the one that they'd first interacted in.
SY usually gossips with his friend--who is infact XF (XF will later differ to An Ding peak when his skills as a bookkeeper exceed expectations. His Shizun quickly determines that his skills will be better polished in the logistics peak rather than the scholarly peak)--about other disciples. If Shen Jiu's in the library at the time he's usually welcome to join--Shen Yuan finds his additions mighty interesting.
After XF is transferred off SJ is selected to be an inner disciple--meaning he gets to interact with SY more. Naturally they have their fair share of disagreements--but Shen Yuan is much more interested in minding his own business. He doesn't care about SJ's brother trips as much as he could--namely because PIDW was a porn novel--why should he care about whether a npc (or so he believes) is going to brothels or not? He hasn't heard any STD rumors about SJ so at least the other is being safe(?)
The two are classified as the biggest gossipers in the sect. SY has connections in the sect and SJ seems to secure them outside the sect. If you're going to pick a fight with either of the two you have to have a clean record because if Shen Yuan has the slightest bit of dirt on you he will use it and CURSE you out.
When LQG fights with SJ, SY is rather keen on chewing LQG out. When SJ eventually becomes the head disciple (SY hasn't been putting in the effort for it tbh) and becomes SQQ, SY's like "Oh fuck."

Shen Jiu is somewhat of a well-used fandom bicycle, with his 344 unique relationships β that number beats even the protagonist of SVSSS Shen Yuan, who can only boast 305 unique relationships!

In the club
I think Iβm literally never gonna be sick of this masterpiece. I think watching it on a loop for eight hours could fix me. Dancingβs what clears my soul. Dancingβs what makes me whole.
I just love that this very video is an accumulation of thousands of years worth of art made by people who have never met each other. The concept of this video was so completely unfathomable to every single artist who made the sculptures and yet theyβve all put something toward the creation of it.
ITS BACK ON MY TIMELINE
