interesting that the same year stranger things premiered, both eyewitness came out and og skam was on it's 3rd season, both of which featured major gay storylines, both of which people still talk about 10 years later. and i mean for chrissake there's been 5000 remakes of skam in every country BECAUSE of the popularity of the 3rd season's gay storyline. and it took stranger things 10 years to say, yknow gays exist something something the 80s!!!!!

Gotcha so El was never meant to be an actual character with her own wants and dreams, those past 4 seasons were, what? Just fucking around for fun? No, she’s not a REAL character, and she’s not worthy of a genuine resolution, she’s an idea :) like Peter fucking pan or something idk

honestly this could have worked if they hadn't been so determined to hinge most of her development the last 2 seasons on her relationship with hopper and mike

and the thing is, they really could have leaned into the personal tragedy of mike's character. that mike is unable to cope with his feelings unless he writes through them, all his friends move on and overcome their trauma but not him. he lost el, and he lost will, but he doesn't care as long as theyre happy. that's all that matters. but he's still stuck in his fantasies, they provide him comfort. like clearly that's what they, in their fumbling attempts, WANTED to say but they were so fucking scared of doing anything interesting or actually upsetting the status quo they sat there and pretended like mike was alright in the end too

Byler not being endgame is lowkey extremely painful from Mike's pov. He couldn't say ily to the supposed love of his life in her "final" moments, never finds out about the painting lie that literally saved his crumbling relationship, heteronormativity killed his longest, softest friendship, never finds out about will's feelings for him giving him powers, never gets to escape the cycle of conformity, never got to make his own choices, never got to break free from the narrative he was chained to. will byers i’m so sorry you deserved better. but also. also. mike wheeler i’m so sorry you deserved better. no they will never make me hate you, only the writers that fucked you over. i genuinely feel horrible for mike, because what the fuck. he’s depressed and stuck in the past, while he shares stories about how everyone else has found happiness and their own place in the world. once a favourite character always a favourite character, man, i don’t care, i love you mike wheeler, you did not deserve to have been dumbed down to a cardboard cutout and you also did not deserve that ending.
