test still showing all the techniques together
To make the scenes around the pool of water more surreal and weird we have mixed media backgrounds using mushrooms and feathers, which will then have digital painting on top to keep the overall style of the film. And the scenes in the town will be entirely in 2D.
Top cinematography by Alvilde Naterstad and the town backgrounds by Jelle Rebry below. With a drawn still of Damia and Kit from one of our animation assistants Brenton Myerscough on the bottom left.
And here’s some awesome designs and background drawings of the town from our production designer Jelle Rebry- with more to come as we start to make way in the production!
Concept art/ background still of a warning long forgotten.
In the beginning stages of story boarding, I decided to start with ink wash concept boards. While a lot of these weren’t used in the final story animatic I found them helpful in figuring out the strange kind of atmosphere and look for the film, as well as being a lot of fun to draw.
quick animation warm up/ colour tests
Some more early concept art- this time trying out adding darker atmosphere and different colour palettes.
And here are the first sketches I made of our two main characters for Lethe.
They are going through a bit of a re-design and name change at the moment, but more on them and their backgrounds/ personalities to come!
Lets get this blog going! Here’s some early day and night concept art for Lethe- a 2D animated short about two friends who discover an unusual pool of water in the woods.
