Heartbreaking! Perfectly cute and funny cat video ruined by caption insinuating that cat coat colour has literally any effect on the animal's personality / temperament / intelligence and consequently zero introspection on what that kind of thinking is uncomfortably reflective of with regard to humans!

Like this isn't exactly new; negative perception of black cats, for example, has been a notable thing even past the times when it was typical to be superstitious about them; this is thought to be most likely caused mainly by it being more difficult to read their emotions (here is one study published this year investigating that; I've read at least one other one about it but I can't find it atm) but I thought other cat lovers were all on the same page that assumptions by coat colour had no basis in reality and could not meaningfully indicate anything about a particular cat.

So it's frustrating to me to see in the past few years an uptick in the amount of cat owners / lovers doubling down by seeming to generate even more coat colour stereotypes but like with a layer of ~whimsy~ added to it. They'll post a video of an orange tabby doing a normal cat thing and be like "omg orange cats are so stupid he has no braincells XD" and then someone else will post a video of a tortie doing the same thing and be like "wow tories are always so moody she has such an attitude" and I feel like I'm going insane that no one realizes how weird this is and that its just like. Memeifying racism and misogyny but thinking its cute and fun actually because we're applying it to cats instead of people.
