another wild HOT MESS survived, this time at the Baltic Anarchist Bookfair!!

it's been a whole year of the Fireman--a look i mixed off kyo/zhar and the blaze in my heart!

i still think there needs to be a kny sequel called The Rage Of The Hairdresser, just for kyo and his impossible bangs... but i'm happy with the wig progress, and the character it gained after the night party trashing. also happy with the face i did this time, esp the stage of just blush/eyeshadow and big black brows--very vivacious!!!

and i'm more than happy with the overall experience!

talked so much my throat died angrily. i gave the hot/manifesto talk--essentially an intro to the social toolbox that i like using--and it's thinking/sharing/connecting but at its core this communication is... an encouragement i'd say.

still baffles me that it's actually so possible to share ideas with a crowd. that it really is possible to make your words reach people, and that people can choose to reach back!

that you can deliver words of encouragement to a chunk of a vulnerable and otherwise-feeling-very-isolated community, and with it make the connection within it just a little tighter. some ppl now know that there's that one tool guy with ideas. i now know that there's not one or two but several venue's full of people who grind the same everyday outsider struggle that i do, open to connection. and i know that there are words to bring this whole crowd together and make us collectively go wild. this brings a feeling unlike any other, as if something bigger than all of us is coming awake in the very air--man! can you believe that?? you can take a mic and say your words. you can just fucking do that! life is full of mania

honestly i think it's a bit of a lost art with some younger fans these days to just like............do things? people hold themselves back from making amvs, gifs, writing fic or drawing art, etc etc because "they don't know how" but the truth is a lot of us didn't have that knowledge handed to us, we looked at what other people were doing and then tried to copy that in our own way. and yeah the first hundred thousand words you write are probably going to be kind of shit. and the first gifsets you make will probably be grainy. your amvs will be clumsily edited, and your first year or two of drawing will make you cringe in the future. but if you don't try, you'll never improve! and these days there's so many more resources out there with the internet being so large—art tutorials for specific things, gifmaking guides handed around that compile the steps down the the finest details, writers who talk about their processes, amv makers/vidders who are more than happy to share what transitions or text overlays they use. and i sometimes want to take people by the shoulders and say, just try! take the first leap! the worst you can do is make it badly, and made badly is better than not made at all.

Apologies for further political agitation, but I’m getting decidedly fed up with this accelerating drive by platforms towards censorship and the restriction of lawful free expression.

It now turns out that Kickstarter will no longer allow their site to be used to fund anything they consider “adult”, including games or art that includes portrayals of sexual activity, reference to sexual activity or images of bodies intended to promote arousal (the horror).

They are also, apparently, banning the use of Kickstarter to fund anything that can be “inserted” - although I suspect they will end up demonstrating a very sheltered view of that particular category.

The reason given, yet again, is that they are required to change their policies due to the demands of their payment provider (Stripe in this instance).

Banks and Online Payment Systems should have no power to restrict the legal activities of grown adults. This shouldn’t even be in question.

To say nothing of the fact that, whilst this sort of pearl-clutching performance pretends to be simply an exercise in protecting grown adults from seeing a pair of breasts or an erect penis, in reality it inevitably leads to censorship of even non-sexual LGBT content. Every. Single. Time.

There does not appear to be any organised challenge to this puritanical piss-artistry, but you can contact Kickstarter to let them know your views via: [email protected].
