[Image description: Two images of Hollis from the Adventure Zone: Amnesty. They are light-skinned, of Asian descent, with the sides of their head shaved and hair pulled into a short ponytail. In the first image they are standing contrapposto, with their hands in their pockets, wearing a yellow and black snow jacket with a decal band around the arm reading “HORNETS” repeatedly. They are wearing black snow pants and black snow boots with yellow details. The second image shows Hollis waist up from the back, showing off the back of the snow jacket, revealing the Hornets Logo, which is a Black, Yellow, and white hornet in a yellow circle. The name “HOLLIS” is embroidered underneath.]

THE FUCKIN ANTHEM
@music2muse
even though I’m not a jw, was never interested in it, and currently want nothing to do with the religion, it still pisses me off when people say that jehovahs witnesses are a cult.
like so much
I can understand a joke about it but people who seriously believe that piss me off lmao. like if youve previously been a part of it and feel that way then whatever, thats how you feel. I wont lie I felt it was too when I was like 15 but then I realized how fucking stupid that was.
but if you have literally never been a part of it and have only done ‘research’ then fuck off about it lol
I mean theres no way in hell that I’m going back to that, theres no way in hell that I’d go to _any_ religion, but fuck off with the cult bullshit lmao thats a completely different thing
@welllbeing jehovah’s witnesses are absolutely a cult. you’re taught that god is going to end the world by killing all bad people, and that if you don’t follow the doctrine you’ll be killed. you’re not supposed to have relationships outside of the group. you’re told to limit contact with non jw relatives. if you have thoughts or do anything contrasting the doctrine, you’re supposed to tell the elders. if you leave, everybody including your family is supposed to cut off contact and shun you. you’re not even supposed to say hi to people who’ve left. You’re supposed to ignore anything bad you hear people say about the group, you’re taught that you won’t understand the bible without the governing body (group of creepy old guys who run the organization). You’re not allowed to take blood transfusions even if you are dying. there’s literally articles that say that thinking independently is a trap from the devil. The jehovah’s witnesses tear apart families and have repeatedly covered up sexual abuse of children, so don’t you dare defend them.
@welllbeing Do yourself a favor and look up any definition of the word “cult” in any dictionary or - for example - in Wikipedia. And then compare. I get where you’re coming from though. After I left (and just like you, didn’t want to have anything to do with them anymore) I still didn’t like it when people called JWs a sect or a cult or any of that. I even defended them. I was an Apologist. But: We cannot change the meaning of a word just because we don’t like the word. If something fits the definition of a word then we have to call that “something” by that word. It’s a bit like the word “racism”, you know. The definition of “racism” is: “prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior”. If I believe that one race is superior to any other race, or if I judge someone by their race, discriminate or antagonize them because of their race, if I’m prejudiced against someone because of their race, then I’m a racist. No matter if I like it or not. No matter if I “really act upon that” or not. Or: You can’t say you’re a “vegetarian” but then eat sausages, because “Sausages are not ‘real meat’ but only made out of meat”. You cannot change the definition of a word just to make it fit what you’d like the word to mean.
According to the definition of the word “cult”, Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult. Even a “doomsday cult”. Words matter.
I still have a hard time hearing people talk or say anything about the religion. I don’t even defend it, I just know it’s a sensitive subject because it’s hard for me to come to terms I have to un-brainwash myself. I don’t like thinking I “let this happen to me,” that I could’ve fought harder to not let them warp my mind to what it is. I worry so much for kids in the Hall… because many I can see are depressed, anxious, and don’t know what they’re getting into.
As someone who was raised a JW I can say from experience just how agonizing it is to try and distance yourself from the religion and community. I tried everything to reaffirm my “faith” but in the end never felt good enough; I lost hours and hours of sleep thinking about how I was never going to be able to give enough or be enough for God or the congregation while still enjoying my life.
Only after I finally cut myself off from the religion and put both distance and time between myself and the congregation did I begin to really understand how toxic it had been to me as a teen and young adult. It destroyed so much of my personality and individuality, and the worst part is that all I can see now is how unhappy it’s made my mother (also raised as a JW.) She struggles to accept that none of her children are “believers of God” and I can see how it damages her faith in the community and hopes of a happy future, which she has believed in her entire 56 years of life.
I don’t know how to help her and it hurts my heart to see her suffering because she’s being told to choose between her love for her children and her love for God. I don’t see how a “God who created love” can accept this kind of ultimatum. I can’t in good conscience recommend anyone seek out to join this community. It’s been my experience that it destroys people more than it’s helped.
Some Photoshop Tips
I’ve been getting quite a few asks about the process for the patterns in my stylized artworks, so I decided to put together a couple of tips regarding them.
Firstly, what you need are
— CUSTOM BRUSHES —
Most of the patterns I use are custom brushes I made, such as those:
For the longest time I was convinced making brushes must be super extra complicated. I was super extra wrong. All you need to start is a transparent canvas (2500px x 2500px max):
This will be your brush tip. When you’re satisfied how it looks, click Ctrl+A to select the whole canvas and go to ‘define brush preset’ under the edit menu
You will be asked to name your new glorious creation. Choose something that describes it well, so you can easily find it between all the ‘asfsfgdgd’ brushes you’ve created to be only used once
This is it. Look at it, you have just created a photoshop brush. First time i did I felt like I was cheated my whole life. IT’S SO EASY WHY HASN’T ANYONE TOLD ME
Time to edit the Good Boi to be more random, so it can be used as a Cool Fancy Pattern. Go into brush settings and change whatever you’d like. Here’s a list of what I do for patterns:
- under Shape Dynamics, I increase Size Jitter and Angle jitter by 5%-15%
- under Brush Tip Shape, I increase spacing by a shitload. Sometimes it’s like 150%, the point is to get the initial brush tip we painted to be visible.
- If I want it to look random and noisy, I enable the Dual Brush option, which acts like another brush was put on top of the one we’ve created. You can adjust all of the Dual Brush options (Size, Spacing, Scatter, Count) as you wish to get a very nice random brush to smear on your backgrounds
The result is as above. You can follow the same steps to create whatever brush you need: evenly spaced dots that look like you painted them by hand, geometric pattern to fill the background, a line of perfectly drawn XDs and so on.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE
— PATHS —
But what if you want to get lots of circles made of tiny dots? Or you need rows of triangles for your cool background? Photoshop can do all of that for you, thanks to the magic of paths.
Typically, paths window can be found right next to Layers:
Draw whatever path you want, the Shape Tool has quite a bit of options. Remember, paths are completely different from brush strokes and they won’t show up in the navigator. To move a path around, click A to enable path selection tool. You can use Ctrl+T to transform it, and if you move a path while pressing Alt it will be duplicated.
Now, pick a brush you wish really was in place of that path you’ve drawn and go to layers, then choose the layer you want it to be drawn on. Then, click this tiny circle under the Paths window:
Then witness the magic of photoshop doing the drawing for you while you wonder how tf have you managed to forget about this option for the past 2 years
You can combine special brushes and paths for all sorts of cool effects. I mostly use them in backgrounds for my cards, but you can do whatever you want with them.
I hope that answers the questions for all of the people who were sending me inquires about the patterns. If you have any questions regarding this or any other Photoshop matter feel free to message me, I’m always up for complaining about how great and terrible Photoshop is C’:
I opened SAI with the intention of making something I could potentially put on a t-shirt and sell (cause i'm poor af) but instead made self indulgent art. Plus side: I've got a new icon for all my social media.
