What the fuck happens that changes these stats to such a massive degree?

1) schizophrenia hardly ever causes people to be violent so schizophrenic people aren’t more likely to be violent than anyone else

2) schizophrenic people’s autonomy is often taken away from them because of their schizophrenia. because the authorities and mental healthcare providers often automatically assume schizophrenic people to be violent, they’re more likely to immediately react to schizophrenic people's symptoms with violence, without even knowing for sure said schizophrenic person was going to be violent. all of this causes schizophrenic people to be more likely of being victims of violence and abuse. schizophrenic people also have a harder time getting out of abusive households because of the risk of their autonomy being taken away. if a schizophrenic person’s relative or partner is abusive, often the schizophrenic person has no way out of the situation, both because our disconnect from reality can result in us being easier to manipulate, and because the system is built in a way that it takes away our autonomy because of our condition.

As someone with violent and even homicidal ideation, I think the choices people make are far more indicative of their moral character than anything else.

Thoughts mean nothing. Thoughtcrimes don't exist, especially because what we think is out of our control. If you're not running around hurting people or advocating for others hurting people, then you're fine. For the love of fuck stop stigmatizing mental illnesses and and the unsavory symptoms some of them tend to have.

People can't help it whether they have intrusive thoughts or even fantasize about violence. It doesn't mean we're going to do it. I'm not going to apologize for my symptoms nor does someone finding them off-putting give them a license to be ableist/sanist about it.

Out of this list, GTA and COD are the closest to being ‘not’ political, and COD tends to be either ‘justification for the latest military clusterfuck’ or ‘foreigners scary’ depending on which game, so it barely squeezes in. GTA is, from my experience, political in the way South Park is political: it embraces stereotypes and crassness but doesn’t have all that much of an underlying message.

Metal Gear is made by Kojima and Kojima is good at two things: being utterly batshit and critiquing political bullshit. I’m fairly confident in saying that whichever blurry Metal Gear game is there, there’s politics involved.

Spec Ops: The Line is both a critique of American foreign policy and of the whole underlying logic of shooter games. When half the plot is explicitly kicked off because the CIA is starting shit with a rogue military battalion in crisis conditions you don’t get to say it’s not political.

Wolfenstein II is explicitly about how America was almost as racist as and had large segments of the population willing to collaborate with the Nazis. One of the last resistance groups still fighting is a black liberation group because their existence is criminalized and they know it.

Fallout New Vegas is essentially ‘determine the politics of the entire region and as a kingmaker choose what you think the best kind of regime there is for a post-apocalyptic society’. As a side note, it’s also become memed for everyone who plays it realizing they’re trans, for reasons beyond my comprehension, so given what shit for brains like this call political, that’s just extra irony points.

BioShock is essentially ‘why Ayn Rand was dumber than a box of rocks, the game’. Like, very explicitly pointing out the abject failures of libertarian philosophy.

Dishonored is about conspiracies, how corruption works in authoritarian societies, how murder and mayhem do not work to save a civilization from crisis but in fact accelerate it’s decay, and about how revolutionaries are typically entirely willing to turn around and be the new oppressors.

Just in case anyone is wondering, ALL of Fallout is wildly political. In Fallout 4 you’re literally asked to define what makes someone human, with some extremely clear parallels to real-world racism and eugenics. You see the world before the war and how godawful and jingoistic it is, and meet a Chinese survivor who literally just goes “all of this was a mistake, I only followed orders but I regret it like hell, I just want to go home to help rebuild whatever may be left of my country.”

One of the DLCs is LITERALLY playing politics and having to decide if it’s worth having gray morals in order to let the greatest number of people survive. Another is a Holocaust analogy with added whacky science, but said whacky science is horrifying enough that it doesn’t detract from the fact that it’s a Holocaust analogy—if anything, it makes it all the more potent as a metaphor. (The fact that you can never really “finish” this DLC, that the spawnable enemies will just keep coming back again and again even after the boss is defeated so you’ve got to keep going back again and again to get rid of them, is also a pretty fitting metaphor for Nazis.) If you read all the prewar terminal entries, you’ll find a pretty nice handful of things supporting unions.

I’m betting this meme-maker plays as part of the Brotherhood faction in FO4. Unironically. Probably even buys into their fascist rhetoric.

COD ‘barely’ squeezing in as political sure is, uh, A Thing to say. It is WILDLY political, like it had literal War Criminal Oliver fucking North as a consultant on one of the games. Bush administration alum are executives at Activision-Blizzard. They attributed U.S. war crime to Russia. Even if it weren’t directly sucking at the teat of the American military, any piece of media that is about war is political because war! is politics! It just doesn’t *feel* political to you because jingoistic military propaganda is the background radiation of the American cultural landscape.
