Nobodys gonna read this but it’s ok
I’m writing a short story! I’m not that far into it, but I thought I should post it just because. I have no idea what to do to make this first chapter longer, so filler ideas much appreciated I am definitely no pro at writing.
I’m updating this every chance I get✌🏼 955 words so far.
Vineridge a small town in Myalie, was known for the fact it was built on the edge of the largest forests and most vital ecosystem in Myalie, the weeping forest, the forest was protected by the nature guardians, adelais and adeline, the twin sisters have been the guardians of nature since the former one passed away, leaving the role to her heir. The reason the forest was so important was because it was home to hundreds of species of different plants and animals that were nowhere else in the world. When animals in the forest are forced to migrate to a different part of the country, they’re also forced to change their diet, habitat, and way of life. And the forest was at risk for deforestation due to the incompetent king of Myalie, who had made it clear over his years ruling the country that nature was the least of his concerns. He made messes of nature then left it for adeline and Adelais to deal with. Earlier that morning, Adelais received the notice he had sent them about the project, the project was unexpected and never discussed with them beforehand, which made her go ballistic, making the trip into town she stormed over to the king's house at 8am while her sister was still asleep.
“The forest is an essential part of the country's environment! You can't start tearing down trees! it'll push climate change faster than it's already happening!!” Adelais yells at the man sitting across from her at the desk she was standing in front of, slamming her hands down on the desk as she yelled at him. “I know it's unfortunate, but we need the land for another village.” he replies with a stern tone, his expression unimpressed, taking a drag from the lit cigar hanging lazily from his lips as he shifts through papers, not minding much attention to the woman across from him. “You ‘need the land’? Need the fucking land? Edwin there's 5 villages throughout the whole country, you have more than enough fucking land to build on! You can build literally anywhere to build another village yet you choose the most vital ecosystem in our country?? You are the most incompetent man I have ever met, you should not be allowed to run a country." Adelais snaps at him, her voice filled with rage. She storms out of the office before he could respond to her, slamming the door as she left. “Tell him the only way we’re speaking again is if he changes his mind.” she tells the guard at the front door as she leaves the house, slamming the door behind her.
There were already people cutting down trees in the forest illegally, causing animals to lose their homes and being forced to migrate to different areas with different conditions they've never lived in, forcing them to change their diets and way of life, which also put the other wildlife in Myalie at risk too. Edwin had never understood the importance of the forest, and she wasn't about to waste hours trying to convince him to change an opinion he's had since before they were even conceived. If they had to fight Edwin to protect the forest, they would do what they needed to.
“Where have you been? You weren't home when I woke up.” adeline asks her sister from her seat at her vanity as adelais enters their shared bedroom. “Edwins. He's planning to start taking down trees in the weeping forest to build another village.’ Adelais responds with a loud sigh, sitting on the edge of her sister's bed. Adeline whips her head around to look at adelais, her eyes wide with shock. “The forest is a vital part of the country, he can't do that?!” she scoffs.
“I tried telling him that.” Adelais shrugs.
“How do we know we can't educate him so he makes the right choice?” adeline asks her sister, rummaging through the drawer in her vanity where she kept her hair accessories. “Because it's Edwin, Adeline. When has anyone been able to convince him to change his mind about anything? He's made it clear nature is the least of his concerns. He's an incompetent bastard.” Adelais scoffs from her spot on her sister's bed, a spell book now open in her lap, scanning the pages as she and her sister talked. “White lace bow and teeth rings.” adelais hums as she flips through the pages of the book. “Thank you,” adeline responds, grabbing the bow and closing the drawer, then opening the drawer below where she kept her rings. “And you’re right. But there isn't much we can do, guardians are strong, but me and you alone wouldn't be able to fight Edwin's army and win.” adeline grumbles as she pulls her white hair into a half up half down style, using the bow to tie up half of her hair. “The project is set to start in 6 to 8 months, that gives us enough time to make the trip to get the other guardians."Adelais replies, closing the book, tossing it on the bed and standing up. “Sister bonding trip!” she says with fake enthusiasm, walking over to her side of the room. The girls had never really contacted the other guardians nor did they know much about them, they had exchanged a couple of letters back and forth with the water guardian, but that was really all. Their crows, funeral and mourning, knew more and provided the information when asked.
