I need more Stede Bonnet on my blog. Look at this man - he's dashing, he's dapper, he's charming and he's kind. He's supportive of his crew, pays them a wage, involves them in activities. He shares his library via communal story time. He knows when the crew need a morale raising party!

He's generous to others - he even takes tapas to his ambush, trying to make a good impression. He's standing up for his friends, Ed at the French party and Karl/Buttons against Jack. He doesn't want to die but he's sincere in telling Ed he doesn't have to sign that Act of Grace, knowing that he'll be shot if Ed doesn't.

And he's so brave. He takes such a risk choosing the pirate life, knowing it'll probably end in a fairly swift death. But once at sea he is unashamadly himself, embracing those parts that were hidden on land by toxic conformity. He's trying to change the culture of piracy through kindness and community and by the end his philosophy wins the day.

He's not perfect. He had Roach use all the oranges! He has a habit of running away. He makes mistakes but he keeps learning from them and trying to do better. He knows he was wrong to abandon his family and he returns to try and put it right. When he realises he hasn't given the crew a fair hearing, he apologises and they pull off a fantastic fuckery, together, for which he gives them heartfelt praise. He abandons Ed without any communication but when he returns he listens, he's honest and he doesn't make excuses. He recognises how badly he hurt Ed and uses that to try and help Lucius and Pete. He rescues all his crew, even when he thinks they have killed the love of his life.

Stede Bonnet. He is inspirational. He is sunshine. Character of all time.
