“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you...."
Jeremiah 1:5
The priest at church today said our faith is like a fire. The more you feed it, the brighter and bigger it grows but if you don’t tend to it then it slowly burns out
Lord, please help us always feed the fire of faith in us
Why Catholics call Mary the New Eve.
Among the many beautiful titles given to the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the oldest and most meaningful is “New Eve.”
This title expresses the profound role God entrusted to Mary in the mystery of salvation: just as the first Eve had a role in humanity’s fall through disobedience, Mary had a unique role in humanity’s redemption through her humble obedience to God.
Mary is not called the New Eve because she replaces Christ: Jesus alone is our Savior. Rather, this title reveals how God chose to involve His Mother in the plan of salvation, just as He chose to involve Eve in the beginning of creation.
Eve and Mary: Two Responses to God
In the Book of Genesis, Eve was created without sin and called to live in friendship with God. However, when tempted by the serpent, she chose to distrust God's command and turned away from His will.
Through this act of disobedience, sin entered the world.
But in the fullness of time, God sent the angel Gabriel to a young woman in Nazareth with a message that would change the history of humanity. When Mary was invited to become the Mother of the Savior, she responded:
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)
Where Eve said “no” to God, Mary said “yes.” Where Eve’s disobedience opened the door to sin, Mary’s obedience opened the way for Christ, the source of salvation.
Mary and the Woman at the Cross
The connection between Eve and Mary appears again at the Cross.
In Genesis, Eve is called “the woman”, and through her disobedience humanity experienced the wound of sin. In the Gospel of John, Jesus addresses Mary as “Woman” at Cana and again at the Cross:
“Woman, behold, your son.” (John 19:26)
At the foot of the Cross, Mary remained faithful where humanity had fallen. She united herself completely to the suffering of her Son and stood as the Mother of all believers.
The Teaching of the Early Church
The title “New Eve” is not a modern invention. It appears in the writings of early Christians: Saint Justin Martyr and Saint Irenaeus of Lyon both taught that Mary’s obedience was connected to Eve’s disobedience.
Saint Irenaeus wrote that:
“The knot of Eve’s disobedience was untied by Mary’s obedience.”
Through Mary’s faith and obedience, God’s plan of salvation was welcomed into the world through the birth of Jesus Christ.
What Does This Mean for Catholics?
Calling Mary the New Eve reminds Catholics that God works through humble cooperation with His grace.
Mary’s greatness does not come from replacing God, but from her perfect openness to Him. Her entire life points away from herself and toward her Son.
Like Mary, Christians are called to trust God’s will, even when it requires faith, sacrifice, and surrender. The New Eve teaches us that a simple “yes” to God can become part of His greater plan.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, New Eve and Mother of all the living, pray for us.
Please, pray for a woman, Bianca, who was stabbed by a homeless "friend" she took into her home, wanting to help her. Bianca had a stroke after being stabbed, lost the movements of her arms and legs and she is unable to speak
there was a woman at church who had cancer and I hadn't seen her in a while so I assumed maybe she was sick or something, but I found out today she passed away :/

Saint Veronica offered her veil to Jesus to wipe his face on his way to Calvary and Christ left his image miraculously imprinted on it. This beautiful act of charity is commemorated at the sixth station of the way of the cross. Veronica’s veil is one of the Vatican’s most treasured relics. St. Peter’s Basilica displays the veil each year on the 5th Sunday of Lent, Passion Sunday.
