Welcome!
I said a couple years ago I was gonna make this blog, and now I finally did it! This will just be a place to post whatever I've been building and what my Glitch named Marion is up to. And most of what I build in Starbound is the interiors, hence the username.
So my beta reader for the Big Fics is an astrophysicist, right. Who is currently also writing a hard sci-fi novel about the exploration of Phobos (more power to them, I cannot with the physics required for that, best I can do is soft sci-fi/fantasy and that reminds me I should finish that story).
Anyway I was bitching about how hard it is to come up with feasible planets in Star Wars because sometimes you need a new planet from scratch and sometimes you need to know more about a planet than the 'has jungles, is probably a moon technically' than Wookieepedia will give you, and they're like 'oh yeah I can do something about that'.
So they've written (in Matlab but they swear it will run as a .exe as well and I may be conscripted to embed it as a web tool at some point) a star system generator.
You input what you know about the planet (ecosystem, population, sun colour, does it have liquid water, does it have a moon or moons, is it a moon or moons, temperature averages, atmosphere, you get me) and it will give you the... everything else about the star system, in obedience to real-universe physics. And if you input nothing you get a randomly generated star system.
And I’m like oh I know people who will be into this with a vengeance, and they're not on Tumblr, so this is me seeing who exactly would be keen on, and I cannot stress this enough, a real-physics comprehensive star system generator.
It's still in the debugging phase (last error fixed: every planet wants to have a population of exactly 5000 regardless of other factors, turned out to be a missing equals sign somewhere), but I'm psyched for this and trying to gauge interest for how high a priority 'make this an accessible web tool' needs to be.

in all seriousness though a fandom doesn't die when there's no new episodes or games or "content" to play with and it doesn't die because people aren't as loud as the day it first came out either. if you're still creating then the fandom is alive. if your mutual who has since moved on still reblogs a post about it every four months then the fandom is alive. if there is even one person out there still engaging in, creating for, or just enjoying that show or that game or those characters, then the fandom is alive.
"fresh content" isn't the soul of a fandom. you are.
i understand why some people hate them but i do love video game achievements because im a sick bastard who likes it when the developers call me a good boy
Bioluminescent Lab
When Aliya told me about some research she'd read into improving the light stim by studying wispers, I knew this was an opportunity for her to get off the ship and talk shop with fellow scientists. She was a little hesitant to go at first, but once I'd made the arrangements, I could tell she was excited.
Once we got down there, she was well away - discussing proteins and synthesis and gene theories. For my part, I was just happy to watch the wispers in their enclosure, for once able to enjoy their beautiful light without them trying to kill me.

Day 42
I found the base of some Letheia employees. Well. Ex-Letheia employees. The place was all smashed up, giant claw marks on the walls, consoles with gaping holes in the monitors. Fortunately, no sign of the employees beyond some... smear on the floor. I pulled what I needed from the consoles. Maybe with this I'll finally be able to reach out to someone for rescue. I also found a pistol with nearly full charge and some food; I took those too. After all, they're not going to need it any more.
Day 43
Console still doesn't fucking work. Hold on– No, that's not– //Deep breath...// The monitor died. The console is still sending an output, I think. At least it gives Power-On Self-Test beeps, so the core is doing something, I just don't know what. I need to find something else to display the signal...
Day 44
With the food from the Letheia base, I was able to explore a little further and found an abandoned homestead. After digging away the sand from the entrance, I found the home dusty but untouched. More food, a blanket, soap even! And the best treasure of all – an old television. It took me ages to lug it home, but if I can hook it up right, I'll be able to see the output from my console.
Day 46
I worked all yesterday and through the night to get my console to hookup to the old TV. I can now see the output from the console! One step closer to sending an SOS... I'm so tired. I'll send it tomorrow.
Day 49
I think I've caught some illness from that homestead. I felt rotten all yesterday and did nothing but sleep. My head is still fuzzy and while I have plenty of food, I don't have much water left. I must send my distress signal now, while I'm lucid.
Day 50
I sent the distress signal. The TV clearly showed it sending off, to both a broad spectrum and the narrow band on the comm chart I recovered from my ship. I don't know how far it sent. I don't think it was far enough. I need to find a way to boost the signal...
I don't recall why I made this little research station. But I made it months ago and forgot about it. Then when I decided to pick up the game again I logged back into this. Here you go.

(back at the outpost) go see a DOCTOR and DONT stand on your damaged leg get some bed rest! i have complete faith in her yes but after tanking like 10+ gunshots she should be on painkillers and bed rest not standing in the outpost like nothings wrong

i changed york from a neki to a felin because i hate the neki fu stats + inability to turn off neki night vision, and the left image is the closest i could get with the felin character creator. the right is with the custom hat AND, FINALLY, i was also able to trans his gender while keeping the smaller eyes,,, i couldn’t even do that with neki, i’m so happy
this is going to change the way i play this gave forever, just like when i found making minecraft texture packs was easy
With my Water-to-Erchius plant back on Altais now inaccessible, I decided to make a new plant on this moon, with the added benefit of also being able to process the crystal form of the fuel.
Obviously, I have extremely stringent safety precautions in place. After all, I don't fancy what happened at that other mining facility happening here...

Updates to Marion's castle!
The main teleporter entryway gets some new trim and new hallowed furniture, particularly shelves to display trinkets from various travels.
This common area has a new upper floor for D&D sessions and such.
The wall between the mall and the set of rooms below that common area has been broken down and turned into a gothic lolita style lounge full of rehomed furniture, plus some new pieces.
That's because the tea room has been updated to include the new purple furniture. The residents on this side of the castle love it just as much.
Above the tea room is this living room Marion doesn't talk about. The wall has been changed a bit and some new art deco sconces have been added to brighten the place up. Marion still won't get a TV. She won't say why.
This could have been a fancy sitting room but she put the grandma couch and the lay-z-boy in it. Clearly she doesn't care about aesthetics THAT much.
Finally the kitchen has been rearranged slightly, with new cabinets and a sink, plus a new and more colorful backsplash. And a door has been added to the east wall for easy farm access!
I've been going back and redoing some old builds from a couple years ago because full disclosure I built them during a rough time in my life where I had near constant brain fog during the day and I was off whoring myself out for a different fandom at night so now I'm just looking at everything with fresh eyes and realizing that I wanna make some changes. be on the lookout for some updated castle interiors.
So a few year ago I re-created Zoe's trailer from re7. I rebuilt it and put it in a new area and built Sniper's camper from tf2, or at least what fans generally think is in the camper. I'm also planning a craft that involves this interior so playing around with design ideas helps. Tried to lean it a bit midcentury and oh my god i forgot a coffee maker and there's snow in the trailer. fucking hell. okay whatever here you go this is my videogame crossover trailer park
Problem with making sci fi dungeons is coming up with places that aren't just military tech bases, research facilities, mines or abandoned space stations.
I have the entirety of modern life to pull from and I come up blank somehow.
fair, though let me make unsolicited suggestions anyways in case it helps:
A highspeed railcar, ideally big enough for freight so that you can make "walls" from various crates and scatter interesting/useful stuff around them. At some point either coming across a locked or barricaded door and having to crawl out and deal with the rushing wind and timed hazards like signs and tunnels.
The surface of a dyson sphere, preferably still under construction, so you can have a mixture of purposeful design, open areas exposed to the sun, control rooms to manage energy or maybe even move platforms around for passage.
The interior of a luxury space cruise, with the added benefit of being able to make some wild themed rooms on the justification of "it's rich people being excessive, again".
Future library, with increasingly bizarre security systems for the seemingly endless parade of even more restricted sections.
A cathedral for some future sci-fi religion. Themed statues that shoot lasers from their eyes, stained-glass that turn into thousands of coloured drones, and you get to reuse any of your greatest hits from your local fantasy campaign but refluffed as robot-slash-art-slash-security system.

Thought of this while reading but: (this is all one idea, each point is just a different layer to it)
Large skyscrapers with dozens, maybe a hundred different floors
Most likely office buildings of mega-corps who can not only afford to build such buildings but also require all that space
Maybe evacuated due to a threat the party is responding to, either externally or even something caused internally, like mega-corps messing with shit they shouldn’t have
Maybe even completely abandoned due to messing with shit they shouldn’t have, and now the threat is getting ready to leave the quarantined building unless the party can stop it
Or the building is completely occupied and the goal of the mission is infiltration and stealth, stealthily going by security checks and convincing all the tired, burned out office workers you’re supposed to be there, trying to reach one of the uppermost floors avoiding as much conflict as you can
I'm all for turning this into modern/sci-fi dungeon megapost hours here
A dam, churning as water passes through and filled with complex machinery to keep things working. With a variant for it being after some environmental change that drained the reservoir and now the dam is the only passage across a chasm, with the party needing to adjust the now-defunt mechanisms so they can pass through.
A hab dome in some extreme environment, an abandoned colony that only just got started. Not unlike some of the other suggestions but a bit more "open" at the costs of the risk of environmental hazards.
Adjacent to the "military tech base" thing is, of course, a spaceship. Presumably with the party launching an attack on it from a boarding vessel at some point. Mix it up by having the ship they're attacking currently docked with another ship, exchanging supplies or personnel, so now you've got two potential dungeons ships to traverse through. Maybe one is transporting cargo and has lesser security, so you board that one so you can cross over to the higher security one.
Fancy space McMansion, with a courtyard (complete with hedge maze), a fancy pool (that's also a weird underwater course or boat racing rally because this is the future wealthy), the mansion interior with Resident Evil style puzzles, and of course the bunker holding all the valuables/target for assassination/hidden intel.
A place struck by a timestorm, so you have a bunch of different zone of the "same dungeon" that flickers into different things. Sometimes it's underconstruction, sometimes it's a military base, sometimes it's a club from a city in another era, and sometimes the planet is undergoing an invasion. All instances of the same timestorm across the ages, existing simultaneously, and you have elements from one zone spilling into the next so you have an eclectic mix of challenges, but also the potential to find something that doesn't exist in your time.
Sorry I'm in the mood to add more:
Rich person's menagerie. While I'm not particularly a fan of killing a bunch of endangered space animals, you can have a bit of characterization mixed in where it's not really endangered animals but rather whatever the owner thinks is "cool" which just so happen to be encounter appropriate enemies. Rooms themed around their natural environments (rooms clearly too small and thus adding to the agitation, rooms that are big for the owner's "favorites"), corridors between exhibits with patrolling guard bots, maintenance tunnels. Lends itself to puzzle interactions (don't make eye contact with the space gorilla and you can pass through the room), and environmental interactions (guards in the way? push them into the eel pit). Can be there to rescue one of the animals, or it's a route into one of the other dungeons suggested.
"The Collector" aka, some person's fiercely guarded vault or spaceship full of art, jealously guarded by the finest security they could get their hands on. Maybe some of the art itself is dangerous: "This pillar is made out of more Psycite than seven systems naturally produce. The artist tuned all of it to express the pure psychic wave length of pain as a means of invoking a sense of universal emotion between all species... also save or be staggered from feeling like all your nerves are on fire when you're in the room." Naturally you could be there to steal one of the pieces, or it could just be a side hobby of your villain.
Any kind of alien ecosystem.
These are just Doctor Who episodes.

Space elevator that runs from an abandoned planet to an equally abandoned orbiting space station. Possibilities inherent in the abandoned planet and space station, of course, but the potential of something like a small derelict city moving from surface to orbit…
Transit would likely take at least a week each way along the cable depending on acceleration/deceleration comfort levels and the transit car (a terrible misnomer XD) would have been designed to be HUGE in order to make each trip worth it.
It’d be at least half cargo holds (think a dozen container ship’s worth or more), but also offices, living quarters, hotels, restaurants, probably more than one shopping mall, greenhouses/hydroponics, gymnasiums, labs, possibly prison facilities for transporting prisoners to and fro, and an absolute maze of service tunnels and maintenance accesses. Just to start with XD
Perhaps it started automatically when you entered but you’d need to figure out the deceleration manually so you don’t smash into an endpoint and die spectacularly.
Perhaps there’s someone/something still living there.
There’d definitely be treasure of some kind.
And now for the very top layer of this new colony on Polis II-c:
A big market and laundrette - mostly because I wanted to play with the washing/ drying machines from Vanilla+ (Vanilla+, City Co. Street Props, General Store, WW Furnishing, Cozy Furniture Pack, Prop Pack, Immersive Props).
A security base, from a 'I want more protection' quest. Again I had a play at making the background a bit more interesting. I think I'm getting the hang of this! (Maple32).
A chillout area/ path (City Co. Street Props, General Store, WW Furnishing, nuggubs' mod suite, Artifact Trophies, WW's VA-11 HALL-A, Prop Pack).
A 'Nuu' friend, who became a hydroponics scientist (I'm rather proud of the wallpapers in this) (Maple32, WW Furnishing).
An 'Alliance' friend, who became a Librarian (Elithian Races, nuggubs' Multiverse Goods)
And the continuation of the chillout walkway (nuggubs' mod suite, Maple32, Extended Furniture Crafting, More Outpost Objects)
I'm not quite sure how to continue this one. I could just keep building up in straight lines, but that seems a bit dull. Or I could find somewhere new to start another one (which might be the preference, as the music is lagging out when I teleport in now...).

This is the area that links the top left and right sides of this colony together. I thought I'd try out some of the wallpaper techniques suggested by marionandinteriordesign. IDK if they're any good; they are very small spaces.
