Solomon was smiling when he came back from the bathroom. An ear to ear grin that made his eyes sparkle with merriment. It was a little weird. He stayed in the doorway and asked, "Has that magic circle always been there?"
You had no idea what he was talking about. "What?"
"The one in the bathroom." He pointed over his shoulder. Solomon was so amused that he couldn't refrain from chuckling while he explained, "I guess it's a new feature. There's a hidden magic circle with gorgeous sigil work next to the toilet. I wanted to examine it a bit more but didn't want to keep you waiting."
You narrowed your eyes and made a face. "There's... a magic circle... next to the toilet."
Solomon nodded. "A very nice one, whoever made it hid it very well. Want to come look with me? It would be good to study."
You could think of a dozen other things you'd rather study. You also had a dozen questions on your mind that piled up into a mountain of concern. "What does it do? Is it, like, recording anyth—"
"Oh, no. Nothing of the sort."
Solomon started laughing to himself again. You stared at him, pressure in your gaze willing him to pull himself together and just talk. That look of anticipation only made him happier.
He cleared his throat, poorly, and finally continued. "It's designed so that someone with black hair, of roughly the same height and weight as Lucifer, will run out of toilet paper and fall into the bowl if they go to sit down. It's harmless to anyone outside of those parameters."
While you were busy processing those words in that order, Solomon grabbed you by the arm and urged you to stand. It was time for a field trip to the bathroom.
"I think I know who made that circle," you said.
"And I think that you would be right,' Solomon agreed.
The names didn't need mentioning. Satan and Belphegor were obviously the only two people with access to the house who would do such a thing. You didn't even have to witness them leaving the bathroom together that morning.
"Do you think he'll fall for it?" you asked. Magic circles were still a unique and confusing form of magic for you. Far less intuitive than chanting spells.
Solomon responded, "Who, Lucifer? Absolutely not, he'll see through it in a heartbeat. But I do hope they keep leaving little Easter eggs around the house. Call me if you find any more, it'll be good for your training."
