So I tried writing this last week, but guys, I was so drained from it all. So I saved this as a draft and just got around to posting tonight - almost a week later.

I had my mammogram follow up today. I was pretty anxious. I was taken to the room and the tech showed me last year’s images vs this year’s - pointed out the differences and explained they wanted some more compressed views as well as some more magnified views. She took all the images.
Then back to the waiting room with my husband.
A tech comes back. More images needed on right side.
Then back to the waiting room with my husband.
A tech comes back. I’m told I need an ultrasound done on the right side, more waiting.
With each wait I’m freaking out more and more.
Finally we go back for the ultrasound. It’s done by the doctor who’s been reviewing the images. Her first question to me is, “Have you lost a significant amount of weight recently?”
Turns out that even though I had lost all the weight by last year’s mammogram, things hadn’t settled down yet? My breasts aren’t actually dense, just fibrous. And when there’s 60+ pounds of weight on my, my breasts have more fat filling them out and the fibrous tissue is spread out. But then I went and lost a ton of weight (and went from a D cup to a B cup) and there’s less space between the fibrous tissue.
The question on the left breast was resolved with the 1st images taken, when more compression was added the spot disappeared. The right breast had some spots that were eventually deemed fibrous tissue after the ultrasound.
I go back for a repeat mammogram in 6 months for the right breast to confirm no changes. Then again in a year for my annual. From now on I was told to schedule my appointments with a wait for the results in case more images are needed.
I’m glad they are being so thorough, but god it was terrifying.
