Aww, I love this so much! I put these boys through so much that it's nice to see them getting to relax on the beach (presumably at the Giant's Toe).

Ahem, Jon, I said relax on the beach, not scout for danger ahead. 😂

Dragons in the background! ❤️ I adore Caraxes getting to have a little leisure time (...well, not that the hatchlings give him leisure time) with Shadow and Qelebrys! His sweet noodle-neck profile!

Daemon holding their hands because how the heck else is he supposed to ensure he doesn't lose them???

But also Daemon feeling comfortable enough that he can put Dark Sister down for a second and just show off those abs on the shoreline. (Not that that's on his mind lol but I appreciate it.)

Trying to decide if Daemon just said something and he's getting snark in response from Rhaegar, or Rhaegar is giving Jon grief for not relaxing for a moment or if he's sharing an interesting factoid. Whatever it is, Daemon's expression is so gently amused/happy. Imagine getting to spend time with your sons and no one is being actively traumatized and/or thinking of past trauma!

Rhaegar's wristband gift from Jon! ❤️ (Is Jon hiding a dagger in a sheath under his tunic? 😂)

Their precious feet! And Daemon's impressive calves. *cough*

The water is so pretty, almost dreamy? Something about the foam, and the tinier pieces that seem to sparkle.

And I like the contrast between the clouds in the distance (very appropriately autumn vibes) and the bits of sun shining down from clearer skies out of view.

It occurs to me that the Daemon-approved palette of colors is so narrow lol. Even just Jon's blue (not on his shit list of green, or specifically black-and-bronze) probably has Daemon thinking grumpily of House Arryn. Which Rhaegar always gets to shut down by pointing out their their own dragons are blue and black and bronze.

Sorry, scouting-mode Jon is so adorable. He's so fiercely attentive! Doing his job! To protect his family! No candles or warlocks or Triarchy assassins on his watch!

I like to think this is either one of the last trips Daemon takes with the boys before heading off to the Stepstones...or his first with them after returning, before the weather turns too cold.

‌Let’s just assume they left their belongings and weapons with some poor knight from the Princesguard who stayed off-screen :D

‌Rhaegar is, as usual, rambling on about history, whilst Daemon is simply happy that his anxious child is finally relaxed.

‌Didn’t you notice the blue ribbon in Rhaegar’s hair? It’s in honour of Qelebrys! And of course, he never takes his bracelet off.

‌Let’s just say that, since Damon rides a dragon so often, he’s got very muscular legs *winking*

‌Thanks for the compliment on the water; I really struggled to get it right.

‌I’m sure Daemon will continue to torture the royal tailors with his demands and constant complaints.

‌Someone has to keep watch because his father and brother are so careless!

‌When I was thinking about this scene, I also pictured early autumn, whilst it’s still warm and you can go for a swim. Most likely, this is after the Princesguard tournament, but before returning to the Stepstones.

‌Thank you; I’m planning to draw more based on Resonant ( and 1000 and 1 AUs).

Anatomy & Likeness

Just spent a long time replying to an anon who asked me about how to improve at anatomy and likeness, and then tumblr just decided to delete my answer </3, so I'm just gonna make a proper post out of it.

My biggest advice for improvement is to just get really, really, REALLY obsessed with something and then draw this certain thing non-stop until your hands fall off (please don't, do your stretches). Of course, doing proper anatomy studies is super important, too, but the second you decide to follow your heart and draw that yaoi ship that won't let you rest 24/7, you will see improvement in no time. And when you do sit down to do those boring studies? Draw your favorite character shirtless. Make those boring studies fun!

These books have been the most helpful to me, especially Anatomy for Sculptors! Highly recommend just religiously copying every page from it. (These books can be found as free pdfs online, you do not have to purchase the physical version unless you want to. I know they're not exactly cheap.)

Here's some helpful websites/programs for studies:

Line of Action Insanely helpful website with lots of study material. They even have an integrated timer and randomizer for all their reference material!

Grafit Studio on Gumroad They offer a huge amount of anatomy reference packs of all kinds of poses and people. I've been using their reference for my studies for years! They do cost a little bit, but they also have a bunch of free test packs.

GestureDrawing! A timer and randomizer for your references! Works the same as the one from Line of Action, though with this program you can use your own references.

How to capture likeness:

It's incredibly easy to fall victim to "same-face-syndrome" but how does one avoid it?

Do studies of all kinds of faces! Old faces, young faces, asymetrical faces, round faces, long faces, square faces etc. You gotta draw faces that might not fall into our modern understanding of "beauty". I know, drawing conventionally hot people is super fun, I enjoy it as well, but if you want to improve at capturing likeness, you gotta understand all the little details that make a human face unique. Those deep wrinkles around someone's eyes, that little bump on someone's nose, that nice fullness to someone's cheeks. There's so much beautiful uniqueness to human faces, I highly recommend properly studying them. Look at an actor you like or a friend/partner you love and figure out in detail what makes their face the way it is, and try to think about how you would capture them on paper.

It's also incredibly important to understand the structure of a face. Where do the muscles sit that cause all of our expressions and how do they influence each other? What does the structure of the skull actually look like?
