Okay so now Andrew's Spiderman is back? Put him in Deadpool 3 please! I'd like a spideypool film with Andrew's Spiderman and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool please and thank you it would be unbelievably iconic and would absolutely work with where both their arcs are at and chemistry wise and omg just do it everyone will love it.
I didn't want to post my NWH spoilers just yet but I need to let it out so…
⚠ Spider-Man: No Way Home spoilers under the cut ⚠
Michelle didn't convince me in the first two movies as a character and love interest, but I really liked how supportive and great she was with Peter and how she put up with all that crap for him.
Now, and I apologize beforehand… MATTHEW FUCKING MURDOCK IS BAAAACK, BITCHES!!!!! THOSE CHARLIE COX LEAKS WERE REAL AND I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY BECAUSE MY BOY IS FINALLY GETTING WHAT HE DESERVES.
Istg I screamed when he caught that brick? stone? idk, and everyone was like “how did you do that?” and he goes “Well, I'm a good lawyer.” It was only a few minutes of him onscreen but those minutes were worth the cost of the ticket.
Right now I didn't care if the Spiderverse actually happened. I was more than good with Matty on the picture.
Back to the movie, i did feel bad for Michelle and Ned not getting into the MIT because of recent controversies. Y'all are the reason people say Thanos was right!!!
Strange accepting helping Peter was such a great gesture of comradeship, in the absence of another word.
And even though I understand why Peter kept interrupting him while performing the spell, I couldn't help but to be frustrated. Like, ugh, Pete, shut up and let the wizard do the favor you asked for!
Okay so, the spell didn't go as planned, Peter's trying to convince this lady to give Ned And Michelle a second chance to get in and BAM! we have Otto and the whole spot from the trailer.
+ Peter saving this woman who, in gratitude, will convince the MIT to consider his friends AND him.
I had no idea how Otto got the Stark tech, and now we know he took the nano from Peter's suit, which didn't work well for him in the end but whatever.
Then we have that quick glimpse of the Green Goblin before Stephen brings Peter back and tells him he captured the Lizard, that everyone from other universes that knew Peter was Spider-Man was coming and that he'd have to capture all of them to send them back.
Something I don't understand is why are they all so angry at Peter? As far as I remember from the previous movies, they redeemed themselves.
Maybe Max didn't, but Connors, Doc Ock, Sandman…
Which is brought up again when Flint saves Peter from becoming barbecue thanks to Electro and then he's like yeah, I don't need fixing even though I want to go back to my daughter, I'll be a villain.
Lemme point this out, Stephen separated Peter from his physical form to his Astral form and he was able to go back into his body and keep Stephen from taking the box from him. Was it his Spidey-sense (no, I'm not calling it tingle)? Because it was awesome.
Otto having his silence and mind back is just so good.
And well, Max suggested there is a black Spider-Man somewhere. Miles, I'm looking at you, bud.
Norman. Just ✨ perfect ✨. The way the Goblin analyzed Peter through Norman was brilliant.
And him convincing both Max and Flint and, well, Connors they were Gods and they didn't need fixing.
Now, freaking hell if I knew what was about to happen and still was not ready. I already knew May was going to die, but I had this slight drop of hope when she stood up and walked to Peter saying that she was okay.
She told Peter that with great power comes great responsibility and I'm totally sobbing at this point.
I ugly cried, people. Not as much as I did with Loki or Nat or Tony, but it's fine because we're finally getting a Peter who suffers and has nothing. Which is sad but that's the essence of the character.
And then, Happy watching from the car.): His realization of what was happening broke me.
Okay but Ned is ✨ magical ✨ and he freaking opened portals.
TO NO OTHERS THAT ANDREW AND TOBEY'S PETERS!!!!!
SPIDER-VERSE CONFIRMED. 👏🏻CON👏🏻FIR👏🏻MED👏🏻
FFS I almost end up hoarse. My hands were shaking and sweating and yes, you can call me ridiculous but this is a freaking big event in the History of television.
Then, we have the other two Peters telling… Peter about their losses, about Gwen and how Uncle Ben told them the same thing May did the day(s) he died. It was very emotional.
And they deciding they were going to help the villains.
That joke about Peter, no I mean Peter Parker. Was hilarious. Mostly because in the group of people I went with there is another Brenda and we get that a lot.
Peter (Andrew) saying that he wants to fight an alien. Oh, boy no, you don't want to. Trust me.
And then Peter (Tobey) telling him that he's not the worst Spider-Man, that he's amazing. Man, he is. I love Tom, Tobey is part of my childhood but Andrew's SM has been my favorite till now. Though I believe Tom's is talking over.
I froze when Michelle fell and Peter was about to get her and the Goblin stopped him. I was certain she was gone too.
But then we got Peter (Andrew) saving her and I cried again. His face when he realized that he saved her, that he didn't let Peter's girlfriend die... GOD!!! Too many feelings.
They stop them all, except for Norman and damn if I saw Peter beating him to death.
I gasped really loud when Peter (Tobey) stopped him and then got freaking stabbed. Like what's gOING ON?!? WTF, WHAT'S THIS?
Oc, they heal Norman too and I breath normally again when Peter says he's fine, that he's been stabbed before.
Now, the multiverse is opening again. Whoever that knows Peter's identity is coming through and Strange does his best to stop them.
And Peter makes the most difficult decision ever. A variant of the spell, where everyone forgets about him. Not only that he's Spider-Man, but about his whole existence, as if he'd never existed.
And my heat aches because it works and he couldn't tell Michelle or talk to his best friend or--.
Or Happy, in the cemetery with May. I would have liked it if the gravestone had said “Ben Parker & May Parker” instead, but I guess we'll never know what happen to uncle Ben.
I was lowkey expecting to see Mr. Ditkovich when someone said something about rent in Peter's new place.
Also, did y'all see that new suit!??!??!?!??!? The colors, the spider in the back, the eyes in the mask. Great, beautiful, magnificent. *chef kiss*
And those post-credits. MAAAAAN. Eddie going back to his universe but Venom leaving a little Venom behind!?!! We already knew it was likely to happen but.… YESSSSS!!!
AND MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS TEASER AS THE SECOND POST-CREDIT. MAAAN, STEPHEN ASKING WANDA FOR HELP, ASKING HER WHAT SHE KNOWS ABOUT THE MULTIVERSE AND FREAKING KAECILIUS AND MORDO AND AMERICA CHÁVEZ.
Dude, I can't wait to watch this movie. It's gonna be crazy.
having andrew’s peter be the one to say i love you guys to tom and tobey’s peter was so significant though. because when is the last time that andrew’s peter has ever loved? gwen. he hasn’t loved since, and though it may have been played off for laughs, he meant it. he meant it because they helped him see how amazing (pun intended) he was when he thought he was lame. he meant it because they helped him understand that he deserves to find someone that loves him and that he loves back. he meant it because he has never had someone understand him on a level like peter one and peter two did since gwen. they helped him understand that everything he went through— such as gwen’s death— wasn’t for nothing. so when he looks at tom and tobey, he says i love you guys because he does love them and appreciates what they did for him in hours that no one in his universe could do in years. but more importantly, they’re just a different version of his peter. so when he says i love you guys??? he’s finally starting to love himself too. finally starting to forgive himself.
NO WAY HOME SPOILERS!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE MOVIE. PLEASE SCROLL. IVE ADDED TAGS BUT JUST IN CASE
SPOILERS AHEAD
LAST WARNING 🛑
What absolutely floored me is how they tied in the audiences reception of Andrew Garfield's spiderman into No Way Home. It's no secret the Amazing Spiderman and Andrew weren't perceived well by the masses. And they threw that into the story! Andrew's Peter feels "lame" (his words) compared to the other 2. He didn't accomplish as many amazing things or have cool enough villains compared to the other 2. You can read in his interactions with the other 2 how much he craves love and approval. And it works storywise because Andrew's Peter carries much more guilt, sadness and bitterness in comparison to Tobey's Peter. It makes me wonder how many of those emotions the cast and crew who worked on the Amazing Spiderman franchise feel those same emotions. Particularly Andrew who was so excited to play Spiderman and then have the masses slam him as not good enough. I wonder if Andrew felt nervous or hesitant to put on the suit again.
And then Tobey's Peter acted as the fangirls of tumblr by telling him that he's Amazing (I see what you did there Marvel) and it removes some of that negative stigma away from Andrew's spiderman having that validation. And then Andrew obliterates more stigma by KILLING his performance. You see with better writing, direction and just better everything that he is an AMAZING SPIDERMAN. He is the best trained actor of the 3 and it shines through, particularly in his monologue about Gwen. But not just that, he elevates Tom and Tobey's performances.
I hope Andrew Garfield sees videos of people screaming when he comes onscreen. My entire theater clapped and cheered. People lost it when he saved MJ and I started crying watching him cry. One guy literally shot up to his feet and screamed "yeah." I hope after this he feels more accepted in the Spiderman universe.
honestly i think my funniest thought is the image of someone sitting in the theater for spiderman no way home opening night, seeing a blind lawyer on screen and everyone cheering for them, but not understanding why the fuck everyone is so excited for this random blind guy because they haven’t watched the netflix shows and only watched the movies
Per request, I’m uploading the two “Quickies” of The Winter Soldier I posted on Twitter last week. If you want to see more, you can check out this page here.
I do this kind of artworks in order to warm up before starting my day but also to force myself to draw simple stuff. I’m trying to stick to simple rules: flat colors, no more than 40mn on one art and no background. It’s a good practice. :)
anybody still super annoyed tfatws's season ended with the cheap "deeply traumatized person just needs to have a heart-to-heart with one kind person and they're magically healed" thing instead of bucky acknowledging he needs a lot more help/going back to therapy? i get him not going back to that particular therapist, but i am super uncomfy with the way his story was wrapped up in a way that felt almost scared of confronting the ugly reality of what was done to him (as opposed to what the winter soldier did to others, which is an easier plot point to hammer home... hence why we've already had an entire movie & conflict that hinged on it) and what it might mean to move forward.
This and the Medium link on how the show has bungled Bucky’s story nailed it. The decision to treat Bucky as a perpetrator instead of forming a story about him as a victim undermines some of the key moments in the rest of the story. We’re never allowed to see how Bucky feels about what’s done to him, or how the torture/mind-control/imprisonment shapes his world view. Instead we are given a singular view that the only appropriate feeling he needs to have about his days as Winter Soldier is guilt.
I’ve never thought of Sam’s words as a symptom of toxic masculinity in the script, but that’s so true. And it’s absolutely on point that the script treats Bucky’s whole arc as “you just need to man up and deal with it”, which minimises the messy issues of him actually addressing his PTSD in all its complexity that includes the loss of agency, disablement and prolonged social isolation. Another issue that doesn’t get enough recognition is what the sustained period of fight or flight response does to a person. CATWS actually mentioned it in a passing comment during Sam’s sessions: one of the veterans talked about crashing her car to avoid a plastic bag because she thought it was a bomb. Bucky has been living in that state for 70 years, and people don’t just drop back into normal city life. Instead his PTSD is boiled down to guilt that has an easy fix in “being of service”, which is again simplified into telling the family the Winter Soldier murdered their loved one.
What the script doesn’t address is - is this actually a service to the family? Would it be kinder for the family to live with the lie that their parents had died in a car accident, than to relive the grief and shock with the added anger of knowing they were murdered? Does it actually bring any closure to know that the murderer is allowed to roam free and is back working for the government? Do grieving families actually care whether he had a choice or not? I would say Tony’s reaction would be representative of a substantial number of people. I’m not even going to talk about how this method also forces Bucky to relive his own trauma and he’s doing all this without any support or monitoring of his mental health.
And finally that brings me to the point that really bugs me about the script (and sorry I keep harping on about it). Isaiah’s story has strong parallels with Bucky’s - non-consent for being a test subject, false imprisonment, illegal experimentation, torture, identity loss. To paint Bucky as someone who “just needs to man up” undermines Isaiah’s entire story.
I am just so frustrated that they kept treating Bucky as if his past were that of a violent alcoholic and not a tortured POW. Bucky acknowledging that he didn’t have a choice is the first step in facing his past not the resolution of his trauma. It’s, in fact, the ROOT of his trauma. He plays his admission as a profound catharsis, which it is, but it’s criminal that by the end of TFATWS Bucky is the only one (besides, canonically, Steve) who has internalized this.
Everyone, including Sam, insisting that he needs to make amends and face his victims is acting as if he had even a shred of agency for the past 70 years. Everyone acting as if he is about to slip into the Winter Soldier is acting as if he doesn’t have any agency now.
It’s normal for Bucky to feel the guilt and the remorse and the terror first, before he accepts that he was powerless. It’s normal for Bucky to want his victims to have closure (though whether his victims WANT this kind of closure is a whole other issue, no way would a sensible therapist ever encourage a patient to do this in person and without the other party’s explicit consent). It’s not normal for Bucky to be told to “do the work” when what Bucky needs is to be allowed to see himself as a victim too.
can we talk about that scene in civil war where steve holds onto a helicopter with his bare hands. how he was willing to tear himself in half as long as he didn't let bucky slip away. how he must have been thinking in that moment about the last time he couldn't hold on to his friend ('it's not your fault' peggy tells him standing in the ruins of a bar 'all i had to do was hold him' he replies). how he must have replayed the scene on the train over and over again in his head, the guilt of it, trying to figure out how it could have had a different outcome. and so when the moment finally comes steve's decided. and he refuses to let go again. and he holds onto a fucking helicopter with his bare hands, and he refuses to let go again. even when the aircraft crashes, blades still spinning and glass sharp, into the water. it is not, after all, the first time he makes the decision to plunge into the depths out of grief, but it is the first time no regrets are weighing on him on the way down.
OOC: //Thank you! This is what I have been saying all along. Loki wants respect. He wanted to be treated as an equal to Thor. He is not as power-hungry as everyone makes him out to be.
**just a quick note that this individual uses they/them!!! @allaboutloki hope you don’t mind the tag, not trying to be rude at all aaaa-
but YES they did an incredible job saying this all very succinctly! I think Loki truly craves love, appreciation, validation - not power. But perhaps to him, those things have seemed to only come through power.
