if christopher nolan was really the visionary and ground-breaking director everyone claims he is he would have cast ben affleck as penelope
If you're struggling to write sex, write food. if you're struggling to write food, write gore. if you're struggling to write gore, write sex. They're all variations on the same themes.
it's all sensation and consumption and intimacy. it's all violence and beauty and taste. it's all wild and animalistic and elevated by our humanity. it's all deeply cultural and symbolic. it's all enjoyed by every sense the body has to offer.
"Gandalf, buddy? What have you got there?"
"Oh him? That my emotional support hobbit."
"Uh huh. And what he got?"
"That's my hobbit's emotional support hobbit."
"And I suppose those two are also emotional support hobbits as well?"
"No, of course not. Those two are my emotional distress hobbits."
".....?"
"Keeps me on my toes."
It's gone. What do you mean it's gone? Well, he's emptied the account. He's cashed out.
Yes!
Create art for yourself and your 30 sickos will find you
We need more women characters who are Male Protagonists. You know. Slightly haggard. She's splashing cold water on her face and gripping the edge of the sink staring in the mirror for a minute. She's coping badly with her deadwife

But can't you just use Ellipsus in your phone browser? Why it need an app?
Yes. BUT (as I think I said in my tags) I don't think Ellipsus has an offline version, nor does it download specifically to your device if you suddenly go offline. I travel a lot and do a lot of writing on planes and/or end up in places where service/wifi is not always available or easily accessible. I hate losing my work bc I lost connection or it didn't upload for one reason or another. The biggest draw of Word for me atm is that my work autosaves every few minutes and whenever it can't autosave to my drive due to connectivity issues, it will save to whichever device I'm currently working on, and I can update the file whenever I have service/connection again. Word also has the ability to recover from temporary files, and track through history edits if for any reason my work doesn't transfer.
And...maybe Ellipsus does that. afaik it doesn't which is why I haven't switched over.
I know every writer is different, but I share Flaubert's belief of le mot juste. I spend a lot of time pre-writing in my head, I will wait as long as it takes to find the exact words I want to describe a feeling or gesture or even a piece of clothing. So when my work is lost, it's agonizing--because I often can't remember verbatim what I wrote previously which makes the concept of "oh well just rewrite it" even more stressful. So as you can imagine I have a ridiculous fear of losing my work at any given moment. Having a system from which I KNOW I can retrieve lost work (and have done so successfully in the past) is extremely important to me. Once Ellipsus has that kind of power, I'm all in. Until then, even once I start using Ellipsus, I'll still be writing/backing up in Word as well.
tldr: ya girl's got unmitigated anxiety.
You can make a movie with where the only white character is a man named Ray Cism whose one line of his 16 seconds of screen time is “I seriously hate women and minorities.” and you’ll find fifty bajillion reader x Ray Cism fanfics and renaissance style drawings of him with a halo of golden light
OKAY I'm curious
where do you write your fics
ellipsus
google docs
directly in the AO3 editor
notes app
physical paper
literally wherever I can (sticky notes, your hand, scrap paper, etc)
something else (tell me in tags or comments !!)
not a fic writer but I wanna press a button too !!!
would appreciate reblogs for sample size ::]
It's important to note that Chekhov's Gun was not originally about foreshadowing, but a piece of advice to playwrights about how every element in a play should have narrative relevance. The corollary to Chekhov's Gun is that if a gun mounted on the wall in act 1 is never used at all in the entirety of the play, then it should be omitted from the play entirely.
also very true
"The gods' chosen" "the gods' champion" no that's the god's little wind up toy. The gods' chew toy. The gods' favorite barbie doll
hi this drives me crazy
canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.
and a cannon is a large mounted gun, usually on wheels, that uses explosives to fire projectiles.
