Officers in some areas have recently found that bad actors at parties are slipping GHB and other date rape drugs into vape cartridges
I get it if you don't like cops or the DEA, but the ones who found this out were actually doing what they should and protecting people.
Rohypnol isn't used anymore because it is so well known to cops. GHB, OTC sleeping medication, and prescription antidepressants are the new roofies. These drugs are outside of the normal drug test panel cops perform on victims of drugging crimes, and many are out of your system in 12 hours, leaving only traces in your hair. If you believe you or a loved one has been a victim of such a crime, tell the hospital to test a hair sample - if they refuse, state you want the demand and refusal noted on your patient file and they will usually comply.
Men are NOT safe from being drugged at bars and parties
Typically, men are drugged by women to facilitate theft. The most credible explanation for the 'Smiley Face Killers' conspiracy is that these men have been drugged with GHB or other fast disappearing substances, the men accidentally die from interactions between alcohol and the drug, and the thieves throw them in a body of water. They leave the man with their wallet and phone because it makes it harder to declare foul play, and the thieves can just find another mark. The crime can't be declared a robbery gone wrong if there was no robbery, the drugs are gone, and it gets written off as someone partying too hard. Men can and are frequently drugged at bars in college towns and find that their bank accounts have been drained the next morning. There's nothing 'sissy' or 'bitch' about guarding your drink the same way you guard the code on the back of your credit card.
Some of these substances will interact with medication and cause serotonin syndrome
This is a life-threatening build up of serotonin. If you start feeling fucked up after a drink or a vape, call an ambulance. If your mate starts acting really fucky after a drink or vape, call them an ambulance and stay with them. Not only are they probably the victim of drugging, but their life may be at risk even if they haven't had a lot of alcohol before they were drugged. Be doubly sure to call if you know your buddy likes to party with substances, because drug interactions are not something to mess with.
Stay safe. Stay aware. Don't let anyone handle your drink who you don't trust with your life. Don't accept vape cartridges from anyone you don't trust with your life.
