Flowers from Fukushima, for Lucky Peach Magazine and curator Monica LoCascio
A new perfect bound edition of my comic book, MA, is now available in a perfect bound gloss edition with a new interview. You can also buy original sketches, comics pages and cover art packaged with the book at my store. MA tells the story of a young married couple forced to flee their home and families by the escalating Vietnam War. In Malaysia’s Pulau Bidong refugee camps, they treasure pockets of silliness and romance as they learn to raise two boys and await news from home and of their uncertain future.
Peril spoke with Matt Huynh recently to learn more about memory and his connection to the story of his family’s past, in-between spaces, the journey from past to future, refugees and asylum seekers, and the visual poetry of comics.
