What a pile of recyclables! Today's adventure lead us to Atlantic County Utilities Authority's (@acua_green) event! Tours for the recycling center, recycled kids art, plant giveaways, eco venders, and conservation groups gathered like minded people to enhance the quality of life through sustainable, responsible and green living!💙♻️🌎 Got to meet some awesome people too! @surfriderjerseyshore @alo_lbi, Marine Mammal Stranding Center, @cleanoceanaction, Cousteau Coastal National Estuarine Research Reserve, @noaadebris just to name a few plus so many more! Anyone want to help me remove some more of this junk? Holy mackerel! This was a sweaty endeavor! 💦 This pile was found tangled in the jetty rocks at @lloyd_beach. It was so heavy! I had to drag it up the beach where the cliffing was the least and up to the dumpster. All it took was a good knife and some elbow grease and I feel great about it. WOOO! Go me haha. I will be back in the next few days with a better knife to try and remove the rest. By doing #randomactsofkindness like these not only do you rid the ocean from this derelict gear, but you get a great energy boost and feel great about saving a life in the sea. #earthday2016! Happy Earth Month! Officially this marks a 21 day countdown till #earthday2016. This is the time to love, celebrate, and appreciate the planet that has sustained life for over 3.5 billion years! Without the blue, there is no green, so look towards your oceans people, they are your life support system. Want to reduce the amount of water you maybe wasting? Want to think more sustainably? Lookie what I found! This is a colonial siphonophore like the Portuguese Man O War and the Vellela. Took this shot earlier this week where it washed up with hundreds like it in Hollywood FL. With all of this wind it's been bringing all kinds of critters. I have never seen one of these before in my life but assumed it was a cousin on the POW and began my research. These are common in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic. 💙🌎 , they love to eat Copepods and crustacean larvae and get preyed upon by the beautiful sea slug Glaucus atlanticus (the beautiful sea-swallow, dragony-blue looking slug 😜). This is my detox, pacifier, stress reliever, my unwinding peace. Underwater I don't worry about my thesis and graduating on time, the loss of loved ones, anxiety, bills, if I remembered to get my allergy shot this week or worrying if I remembered to give my lizard his shots.....everything shuts down for a few peaceful minutes. Watching this magnificent animal grace my presence with her beauty, agility and strength induces tranquility. Time slows down. She moves effortlessly across the benthos, curiously inspecting. Eager to know more about us, why I do the same about her. I wish I could stay longer and not deal with society's social pressures, rent, school and everything else "growing -up" entails. Unfortunately for me I have no gills, or extraordinary breath holding capabilities, I am only human. I need to every once in a while take a cleansing breath, continue to love, laugh and fight ... for me. Hopefully we will meet again for another therapy session soon. May I present to you, Yin and Yang. Haha. #happyworldwildlifeday everybody! These little yellow stingrays were used for @baldmonk4's thesis. They were very happy to be done with his surveys 😝 and were happily released👏🏽👍🏽. One other sting ray within the survey area even decided he wanted to hang out with one of the caged rays to keep him company, (or kick him out of his turf lol)😬.
