since this fic prompt didn’t get much traction on my twitter account (starsformax), i thought i would drop it here to see if anyone thought it was fucking trash or i should try to write this (even though i bad at it)

bull rider dean x cowboy castiel (they can be switched)
prompt: The Annual Bull Riding Contest is back in town. Happens every year and this small town has a winner for this contest. Dean has always had a knack for bull riding, ever since he was 8, riding calves or miniature bulls. At 16, with his parents consent and all, he would do the Open Rodeos that popped up here and there. Now that he’s 21, he is finally ready to go from Open Rodeos to The Annual Bull Riding Contest in his town and he wants to be the new winner.
Castiel, you think being a cowboy and all he would like to go to The Annual Bull Riding Contest, but he doesn’t. It’s not because he hates it but because he doesn’t see the appeal of it and rather doesn’t “have the time” for it. He would rather take care of his Hefiers, Bulls, and Calves with his family than watch some person ride on a bull for 8 seconds. Since this is the 20th Annual BRC (bull riding contest), his parents decided to go to the years event to just to meet with people and have a good time.
There was a few Bull Riders before Dean. Sam, his kid brother, was telling him words of encouragement and was getting a little annoyed, but it was very nice. As Dean entered the bucking chute, he took one final deep breath and gave the nod, signaling he was ready to go. Dean trained for this, he was ready and ready he was. Dean stayed on for about 6.8 seconds, longer than the few riders before him. Also during that rider, Dean’s cowboy hat flew off somewhere. He couldn’t focus on that for now unless he wanted to get hurt. So he jumped over the arenas fence, back to him brother.
Castiel’s family got front row seats and Castiel, for the first time, was watching a bull riding contest. He watched few of these riders and was impressed because he couldn’t imagine how much training this would take. The announcer, introduced a new rider to his first ever bull riding contest. Dean Winchester, from The Winchesters.(duh.💀) His family knows about them, bought some Bulls off of them. Castiel never meet his sons, more or less being probably the same age as them (cas is 22). He watches Dean complete a 6.8 second ride, which made the crowd erupt in cheers, being the longest of the night. During the ride, Dean’s hat landed near his family and Castiel picked it up intending to give it back to Dean and being a cowboy, Castiel would be a little pissed if he never got his hat back. So, Castiel finds his way out and searches for The Winchesters.
Dean is now walking around with Sam, since Sam said he was hunger and their dad said “You got money, go get something to eat.” So, that they did.
As they were in line, Dean was getting claps on his back with “Good ride!” or “Big ol’ ride Kid!” They order their burgers and before they sit, Dean hears his name being called. He looks over and he’s met with a face he’s never seen before. Before Dean gets a word out, the man speaks. “ Hey Dean! I uhh grabbed your hat for ya’!” the man says. Dean is a little awestruck because this man is very handsome and a little too close. Dean takes a minute before responding with “Ahhh, thanks but you keep it!” Dean sounded a little over cheery. Took it from the man’s hand and puts it on his head, literally on top of this guy’s own hat.
Castiel is still for a second and responds with a quick “Okay, thanks.” and walks away thinking to himself ‘Does he not know what that meant?’ to ‘He was probably just being nice.’ Castiel makes his way back to his family, since now the event is over and they rode horses there. He takes of Dean’s hat because it looks a little ridiculous and gets on his horse and tries to hide the ‘extra hat’ he happens to have from his family.

PS. i know nothing about bull riding, i looked up all this stuff so it there’s anything wrong with it please tell me, i like constructive criticism if it’s nice 😊
PPS. this is not modern time 2026 so it’s gonna be dated back (who ch might not make sense with bull riding since idk when it started)
