Studies have shown that exposure to idealized images of women increases state body image disturbance. When men and women are subject to objectification, which means it is an interpersonal phenomenon that occurs when a person is seen or treated as a body or collection of body parts for use or consumption by others. So when men and women evaluate their bodies, especially from others perspective; it sets up the tone in which they think that there is “something not right” about them. Our ideal thoughts about men and women come about from a Western typed idea that we want to have the thought to see people how we want to see them.
I feel like this would also be a credible source, because this journal article goes into depth of where these concepts come from and how these Western views came about. It also gave specific examples of how these ideas existed in different areas of the world. The only thing I did not like was that it did not give too much information on a mans’ point of view in regards to dissatisfaction of the body.
I think this is a very good source. Explaining how the ideal body image differs from other areas of the world sounds very interesting.
