In theory could the Orange Line be extended along the right-of-way of the Needham commuter rail line (replacing the commuter rail) so that Needham would have access to rapid transit? How different would this be from, say, the GLX?

I mean there is a public proposal about this

Realistically, how hard would it be/how much would it cost to have the subway run 24/7? Ignore the commuter rail and buses entirely and suppose that outside of normal service hours (e.g. between 1 AM and 5 AM) all lines run at a frequency of about 1 train every half hour.

my MBTA confession is that whenever I don't feel like paying my fare instead of hopping the train or the bus I pretend that the t is free and I'm just making a voluntary donation to the improvement of public transit in Boston
