everyone i've talked to about this has been completely unaware so: if you didn't know already, there's going to be a solar eclipse, with totality or coverage of 90% or more in some places, over a lot of europe, on august 12th 2026. in the uk it will start just after 6pm, and the maximum will be at 7:13pm.

STRONGLY recommend jerking off a stainless steel spoon or just getting one of those gimmicky stainless steel ‘soap’ bars rather than using your expensive and hard to replace plumbing hardware - the stainless steel does get the stinky sulfur compounds off your hands, yes, but they have to go somewhere, and where they go is onto the steel. And stainless steel is not actually corrosion proof if you keep putting sulfur compounds on it frequently long term!

I want to reiterate that when I was a child wildfires weren't anything we had to worry about either happening here OR sending days of ground level unsafe air at us. they absolutely did happen elsewhere! however on scales/at distances that didn't usually even make the sky yellow much less give us such evil omens as Two Suns in The Sky (optical illusion but still) or Low Visibility or It Literally Smells Like Smoke.

Please help my family stay sheltered!

Hello everyone. For those who don't know me, I'm Jess, AKA Frog. My mom and I have been homeless and living in hotels since the spring of 2023. I'm queer, nonbinary, and autistic; my mom is physically disabled and chronically ill; we're both suffering from anxiety, depression, and CPTSD. We also had to put our dog and cat in foster care until we get some real housing. I lost my job because of the instability of our situation, and I'm having trouble getting a new one. Mom gets Social Security, and we have SNAP, but living in a hotel is not cheap. We're barely keeping our heads above water.

When we can't quite scrape by, which is often, I will use this post to ask for help. If you don't want to see it, ask and I'll create a tag for you to blacklist. I don't want to bother anyone. I'm just doing what I have to do for my family. One day, I'll be able to delete this post, and I will pay forward every bit of kindness.

Due to local housing regulations, we have to relocate, because hotels in this county aren't allowed to let anyone stay longer than 28 days. We know where we're going. It's close by, but more expensive. Unfortunately, there are no cheaper options that are also safe and sanitary. We hope that we will only need to stay there for about 9 days, just until Mom's SSI deposit comes and we can finally get back to Richmond. Sorry I have to ask for a lot.
