on one hand i understand the frustration with the fact that duolingo is only Now putting up yiddish as a language when they have fictional languages like klingon on there but on the other hand part of the reason why is that they literally for years could not pick a specific dialect of yiddish and ended up actively employing yiddish scholars to work in bits from academic+historical yiddish as well as contemporary vernacular yiddish and basically had to build the entire thing ground-up rather than being handed some showrunner’s language bible
anyway it’s actually really interesting to read about how they built the yiddish program for duolingo yall should check it out

i think calling it "bullying" and not like "sustained harassment" has really done a lot to like, blunt the reality that kids shouldn't need to suffer mocking and teasing and even physical abuse from classmates.
There are definitely people within education trying to reframe "bullying" as peer-on-peer abuse and peer-on-peer harassment. Which I think can only be a good thing.
first 5 faceless emojis are how your summers gonna go
Saw someone with “professional internet bully” on their bio on Twitter the other day and ngl that made me feel nauseous irl
Wish people online stopped to think for a single second and consider that bullying doesn’t mean lightly teasing your friends and is something that can lead to real life, life long issues.
Of course, there’s always the super funny guys who ACTUALLY think bullying is “useful because it makes weirdos stop acting like weirdos! n_n” and to these people I wish a very go eat gravel
Saw a meme like “never trust someone who kiba these mfs” with the usual suspects on it (danganronpa characters, homestuck, etc etc etc) and i. walter white was on it. Greg heffley as well. Squidward too.

when you're the only member of a minority in a social space, being asked questions about issues relating to your minority is often a straight-up microaggression. asking the trans person in the room about bathroom laws or the black person in your forum about inner city violence isn't a way to be inclusive - it's legitimately stressful for the person in question. no matter how you frame it ("wanting to learn more" is very common,) all you're doing is making the person, at best, feel like they're some sort of walking primer on minority issues. at worst, you make the person being questioned acutely aware that they are outnumbered by people who don't fully consider the humanity of the person being questioned. you end up feeling like you must walk on eggshells in your answer, wanting to leave a positive impression of your entire demographic on whoever asked the question. you have to educate carefully without threatening the sensibilities of the majority.
anyway stop spamming random people's inboxes with questions about racism or transphobia or antisemitism lmao it's really gross
like, listen, the best dynamic for tma/wtnv crossover is cecil being cheerfully oblivious and jon being at first all serious & sinister like he is abt statements and then gradually being more and more confused by this strange happy man. like. for example.
jon: statement of cecil palmer, regarding...
cecil: oh, idk, i guess i went to target last week?
jon, ominous: ...regarding a trip to target. statement recorded direct from subject.
cecil, with that 'never mind all that' tone: o...kay! so as always the target greeters saw me at the door and were all like 'our dark lord shall feast on those who enter here' and i was like 'great! do you guys have those infuser water bottles?' because carlos saw some on tv and was telling me--
jon: i'm sorry, the target greeters said what?
cecil: you know, their standard greeting! it's been standard since the 90s, when they changed it from 'beware the burden your soul will bear'!
jon, getting less ominous as he gets more confused: ...right. continue?
cecil: anyway, carlos was telling me all about how proper hydration can help deter throat spiders--
jon: throat what.
