ok yeah im watching it again and nobody ever points out but. when merryweather says “you can’t sew and she’s never cooked” that like highkey implies that merryweather was the one in charge of actually taking care of the fucking kid which is hysterical. if merryweather was the main parental figure it’s a wonder aurora isn’t down for murder 24/7

see it’s easy to say “flora fauna and merryweather are a polyam couple” but tbh i think just flora and fauna are married, they both seem vaguely maternal towards merryweather, who in turn seems a lot younger and less experienced. so i have the headcanon that over in the fae realm these two were put in charge of training merryweather as their fae apprentice or whatever which somehow makes “merryweather was the one to take care of aurora” even FUNNIER. imagine you’re trying to train under these two powerful fairies and then before you know it you’re in the middle of the woods raising a baby and it turns out that without their wands your mentors are useless lesbians who don’t know how to cook. no wonder she’s so pissed all the time

i never liked the criticism that “aurora doesn’t do anything she only has like 10 lines that’s not #feminist” because. the main characters of the movie are the fairies, she just happens to get marketed more nowadays cause of the disney princess lineup, if you actually watch the movie it’s clear she’s not the protagonist, neither is phillip, i think he has roughly equal screentime to her. gender equality they’re both useless

but anyway when disney was doing that thing where they made one-shitbillion sequels they have serious untapped potential in post-movie aurora main character. because listen. listen. first of all she went through the most wild life-changing shit all in like two hours so she’s gonna be dealing with the fallout from that

but more importantly. girl was raised in the WOODS. she runs around barefoot petting wild animals and eating shit she picked up off the ground. she now lives in a castle as the future monarch. WHERE is my comedy sequel about that. where the FUCK is it. where is my scene of the servants and royals like “we’re so happy our beloved, perfect princess is finally back :)” and then she walks in covered in mud, smelling like riverwater, carrying a live fish and saying “i caught dinner” phillip sees nothing wrong with this

Young Sheldon: Pilot

I loved it!!! Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see it last night, but it was worth the wait. It’s so different from tbbt, and at the same time it felt so familiar. More importantly, it’s full of heart. There are some good jokes, but what I liked the most was that I cared about everyone. I felt invested with them. I ended the episode and I was smiling.

* Mary Cooper for the win. I loved her before, I love her more now. She’s a true lioness. And yes, the “I’m not crying, it’s allergy” bit got an allergy to me as well. * I appreciated how space has been given to all the Cooper siblings. Especially I liked to hear about George Jr. point of view. * Enough has been said on the final moment at the table. George too is an interesting character. You know, all these years I had this picture of him and it wasn’t very good. And yes, he’s a flawed man. But guys he loves his children. Even odder, genius one.  * Professor Proton! The potato clock! Yes! * Another great moment was the one in the music room. It’s so pure. (It was only odd having the teacher being Mandy Chao in a past life LOL I hope they won’t recycle guest stars too much) * ‘I don’t believe in God, but I believe in mom’ - geez, hand me those kleenex.

Sheldon Cooper

Note: since he is actually in two different shows and you didn't specify if TBBT!Sheldon or YS!Sheldon, I consider both.

favorite thing about them: Sheldon can be so brave. It's not probably the first attribute you get when you think of it but heck, he is. It proved it in actual dangerous situations - saving the guys from the exploding rocket, he proved it in lighter circumstances - e.g. learning how to ride a bicycle. And then he proved in the pivotal moments. As a child, going to high school and then college as such a young age (Btw, remember George telling him he was proud because he did that so bravely?). As an adult, when at a certain point he needed to overcome the boundaries he protected him with and he did. He opened his heart to friends first, he opened his heart to Amy. He overcame his fears, slowly of course, but he did. And this, my friends, required all the courage in the world.  

least favorite thing about them: well he is a notorious jerk, also lol And sadly sometimes this prevailed, and jeopardized all the achievements he reached and the relationships between he and his loved ones.

favorite line: "Let's find out together"  tied with the entirely of his Nobel speech. I love that his very last words in the TBBT are "I love you all. And I love you. Thank you". I can write whole essays about how important is that he did say that at the very end. From YS, whenever he manages to express his love for his family, from the graduation speech dedicated to Missy, to "My mom was my Christian soldier", to the ending of 1x08 I cannot repeat or I start crying shamelessly.  

brOTP: Shelnard! He named his son after Leonard, for crying out loud. And Leonard just loves him back. "He’s a little broken and he needs me. And I guess I need him, too."  

OTP: As I said in the Amy's answer, they are such a special couple, like anything that has ever been on screen. If Amy was the one that patiently worked to bring the better part of him out, Sheldon accepted to open his heart. I've always found ironic how a man of science like he always said, eventually needed to take a leap of faith in an uncharted field like love. Sure, he did try to stay rational (everyone remembers the brain parasite aka being in love, right?), but he really just had to have faith in Amy and most of all, have faith in himself and his ability or not to truly love someone. I guess he did well, didn't he?

nOTP: Shenny as a romantic pair. They are great friends, he calls her along Leonard "my dearest friends in the world", she can get him in ways neither Leonard or Penny or his mother can't. But I am sorry, their hearts are with someone else.

random headcanon: his eldest daughter is named Marie, after both Marie Curie and his mother Mary. When he first tells her, she only thinks of Madame Curie, until he explains it was also after her. Just, he wants to avoid having the same name repeated again and again like it was for the two Georges. Mary agrees, as she tries to keep composure and not crying on the spot.

unpopular opinion: while of course he did try his best in many occasions, sometimes he just was a jerk and really just needed to be punched in the face. Literally and figuratively.

I decided a year ago I was done with Young Sheldon because the show had slowly been getting back into that edgy “we all hate each other” humor of TBBT and crappy 90s sitcoms, only now with children being the butt of their jokes, and George joking about hitting Sheldon was one step too far. (I mean Conny had “spanked”, aka hit, Sheldon before but she’s also canonically such a bad mother that none of her children except Mary, who also resents her, even talk to her anymore. I very much dislike her anyway, and I don’t normally dislike George.) But now I caught up on the show after all and I’m considering rewatching all of it. There’s just enough good and warmth in it to keep me coming back, and Iain Armitage is brilliant playing Sheldon.

idk, the show would have to get a lot more dark to be “TBBT canon compliant”, but a lot of the stuff that Sheldon talks about on TBBT seems to have been retconned away already, so why ruin the sweet positive tone of the show to add this kind of content now? There’s just so much on YS that rubs me the wrong way and goes against its “wholesome” mood. Adults constantly acting like Sheldon, who is a child, is a burden and hard to love isn’t funny. I find him endearing. Who could possibly get angry because a smart 11 year old thinks he’s better than you? That’s like getting angry because a cat looks at you with arrogant cat eyes. No reasonably secure adult would take that personally. Or Missy stating outright during those behavioural tests she and Sheldon do that she feels alone and ignored and the parents feeling guilty and paying more attention to her for one scene and then going back to how it was before. Or the constant reminders of just how conditional the parents’ love for their children is. I could go on. I know the show plays in the 80s but I don’t get the impression that it’s intentionally showing ways of relating that seem cruel and ignorant by today’s standard.

However, Chuck Lorre was born in 1952. He was raised during a different time. I think the Coopers, especially during the first three seasons, are probably what he thinks a healthy, loving family is like. Just like Homer Simpson choking his young son whenever he gets angry at him is “funny” because the show it’s happening on has been running since the 90s. I don’t think that would be acceptable on a show that starts now.

Let’s play a game called “things in tonight’s young sheldon that emotionally ruined me”:

-meemaw joking about mary and george getting a divorce.

-paige’s mom saying that the coopers are a wonderful family. this is the second episode in a row where an outsider has pointed out what a great life george and mary have together. foreshadowing, much?

-come to think of it, a lot of foreshadowing in general. on some level, the coopers are looking into their future.

-the other coach asking george if he’s ever told his kids he’s proud of them. i never expected this guy to be so instrumental in getting george to step up as a husband and father.

-george trying to connect with his son, but ultimately losing his cool and kicking georgie out of the car. i feel like their relationship has been slowly unraveling, from georgie quitting football to this.

-”don’t you dare.” - everyone talks about the kids and annie and zoe, deservedly so, but lance barber’s acting has this quietness to it that’s so underrappreciated.

-georgie apologizing for his behavior, and george’s little smile after he leaves.

-there were a lot of contenders tonight, but tonight’s mvp goes to mckenna grace. there’s a reason she’s everywhere on screens right now. the way her facade slowly cracks as she opens up to sheldon… damn.

-even with all this heavy material, nothing gave me the feels like older sheldon alluding to amy being in labor (and in all honesty i’m glad they gave us this info, because considering their age at the end of the series it wouldn’t have surprised me if they had gone the surrogacy route).

-and finally the bow to the episode is george telling sheldon he’s a good kid and that he’s proud of him. and older sheldon feeling gratitude that he had that moment with his dad

i didn’t think last ep would be topped for a while, but this one is damn near perfect. probably on of my favorites of the whole series.
