my dumb little brain invented fanfiction before i knew what fanfiction was. i was out here writing (or daydreaming) stories for the series that shall not be named and PJO, et al, as a child. then at seventeen i accidentally discovered fanfic via recycled memes on facebook (embarrassing), started consuming SO much fanfiction dot net that it obliterated my sleep schedule (as one does), and got a tumblr (not this one). i wrote a ton of unfinished/unpublished fic for years (knowingly, this time), but only "got into writing fanfiction for real", ie started finishing/posting (in the wonder woman fandom, double embarrassing) as an outlet after some personal issues in 2019. the pandemic was my golden era of posting (i am back on my unfinished/unposted bullshit). et voilà

so for hollanov, i have a very specific headcanon about their relationships with money and spending, and while this may be controversial, i actually think shane is the one more likely to "throw" money at a problem to make it go away (everything from "our sink is clogged" to "the hand soap isn't giving full pumps anymore let's just get a new one" to "what do you mean there are no flights available to [insert city] now? Ok, let's charter something"). which is not to say that i think shane is reckless with money, because he is the King of the diversified financial portfolio, but I think he's more willing to exercise that resource. i think ilya, meanwhile, on surface level looks like he's a reckless spender, but has a lot more calculations running underneath it all than you'd think, as a result of how much additional money he was pressured to give alexei/andrei for years

depends of the type, scale, and relationship-with-the-doer of the surprise, but i lean more towards dislike than like

sometimes i absolutely hate when two things are not mutually exclusive and you have to reckon with the grey zone: ie, that i don't really get anything out of funerals AND that i'm devastated that logistically (four days of travel and the cost of a last-minute flight and the prospect of fucking up my visa application) i will not be able to attend

grief is such a funny thing, the way it shows up in absurdly small things, and grits its teeth and refuses to let go. the way it looks at "preparation" and laughs, keeping it from providing any actual inoculation or buffer to its effects. and it's strange how it warps memory, turns it soft and golden, and makes you yearn for something that probably never quite was

5-years-later amnesia!fic where Ilya loses a massive chunk of his life in a TBI (hollywood style ofc so it'll all come back eventually) and with it his comfort in english, and suddenly shane (who is his competition? but apparently not??) is acting as his interpreter (which, what?? but also he falls in love all over)

soft cozy comfort fic where ilya's canadian citizenship gets approved (it's now, like, 4 or 5 years since they got married) and for the very first time they get to truly, truly exhale because he's safe now
