OBSESSED with the fact that thereâs a redditor out there who calls themselves âPISS BOTâ but carries themselves with the unflappable politeness of a confused Victorian gentleman.Â
the most beautiful stories repeat themselves over and over and over again, time weaving itself into a blanket to warm our beds
Look we all want a robo dog but if you kill someone with a sledgehammer to steal theirs, they are going to find you. There's no way a 75k$ dog doesn't have gps
we are killing the dog
NO.
ALL DOGS ARE PRECIOUS.
Even robot ones.
its not a dog, its a machine used and designed for police surveillance and the entire reason they made it dog shaped is so idiots like you would go "awwww robot dog how precious" instead of seeing them as the oppressive tools they are.
we're killing the fucking dog
That's not a robot dog.
It's a four-legged robot spider.
It is not a dog, a spider, a chicken, a horse, a fish, a tick, a mosquito, a tapeworm or a baby
It is a weapon
There is nothing morally wrong about breaking weapons that are hurting people for any reason other than to prevent those people from hurting others worse
the dog robots are fully capable of hurting people, and badly. failsafes that would prevent that have not been installed. the police are deploying a thing out in public that can maim anyone who touches it wrong.
look, when i was a kid i was passionately in love with the idea of robots--that humans would one day create another sort of intelligence to share our world with-- and believed very firmly that we should respect and protect all our robot friends from the start, so there would be no violent humans-against-robots revolution or anything.
anyway it turns out that the people trying to keep end-stage capitalism running are really banking on us feeling more love for the robots than for the kind of people they're going to be using the robots to oppress.
so like. maybe lets all agree right now that if a robot is being used to hurt a person, you need to smash the fucking robot. they're going to make the robots really cute. they're going to show us so many movies about how much robots need to be loved. and then they are going to use robots to hurt people.
let's try not to fall for it, okay?
And don't forget that scary af episode of Black Mirror, Metalhead. Robot dogs can fuck right off.
They created a weapon, told you to call it a friend and watched as your empathy became their trap and tool.Â
For more information on how to disable the robot dog, there is an excellent Twitter thread.
Today I learned 3D animation is a horror show outside the camera's field of view.
Just to add context, the director wanted the scene to use an 85mm lens which is slightly telephoto. Telephoto lenses give a very intimate feel because they compress the scene. Background and foreground objects can appear larger at longer focal lengths.
But that compression can also make objects look the wrong size in context with the subject depending on the framing.
This is done in live action as well using another person's hands in front of the camera.
This is also something that 3d artists do

beedrill is three feet tall
yeah but lets be real here if it meant I could live in a world with completely free healthcare and take tours across entire countries on foot with superpowered animal/else companions I would fight a hundred fucking beedrill at once naked with only a butter knife
as i say every time i see this post,
you can catch beedrill and earn the purest fucking love from its little bee heart with a muffin you earn playing a minute of yarn toss
beedrill is not your enemy
Letâs think about life in the Pokemon world for a minuteâŠ
First of all, thereâs universal free healthcare across the planet. Thatâs more that a lot of places in our world can say. Moreover, fresh water on this world is apparently so nutrient-rich that it can cure moderate injuries, to say nothing of what berries can do. Therefore, the inhabitants of this world are probably very physically healthy, and those with disabilities (who by default cannot be âhealthyâ) donât have to worry about losing their healthcare due to lack of money.
Politics-wise, there isnât much of a government. Despite this, the world seems relatively peaceful. Private individuals, some as young as eleven, can be expected to deal with crime themselves. War has occurred in the past, but the general political sentiment appears to be very anti-war - cruelty is strongly frowned upon.
Economically, itâs true that there are some people with economic issues - like that one dude in Mauville Hills in ORAS - but generally there doesnât seem to be a whole lot of homelessness or poverty. Some people are more well-off than others - vastly so in some cases - but largely poverty doesnât seem to exist.
Then thereâs the wildlife.
Strange, supernatural creatures of unknown origin and great power populate this planet. An unarmed adult human is no match for even one of these creatures. But the vast majority of the wildlife is extremely friendly to the point where itâs almost all domesticated. Small children are given these creatures as companions and allowed to go out into the open world with them, as they will be safe and able to survive.Â
Even the scariest of these monsters can be tamed with love and care. Beedrill will love you if you toss yarn at it, sure. So will things like Gyarados, Hydreigon, and the Pokemon equivalent of Lucifer. No Pokemon is untameable so long as you are kind to it.
This in turn has fostered a culture of kindness. It is infinitely more rewarding to be kind to the living creatures around you. Those who are cruel are quickly steamrollered by those who build up close, loving bonds. Even then, a lot of people are concerned that this society of love and kindness is somehow too cruel (to the point where it was the entire plot of gen V).
That love and kindness is extended to all humans. People trust random strangers who walk into their homes. Items are randomly just given out on the street, often for no reward beyond a warm fuzzy feeling. Almost comical levels of generosity and acceptance are expected on this planet. And if you decide to betray that and take advantage of peopleâŠ
Well, I hope you like having your ass kicked by an adorable eleven-year-old with a nice hat and a yarn-loving Beedrill.
THIS IS SO NICE
I LOVE THIS POST
fun fact, a myth in the pokemon world (specifically DPP) states that pokemon where worried about humans surviving on there own! so they all spoke about how to look after these squishy notpokemon, and they came up with the idea to be companions and friends. so whenever a human thatâs trustworthy walks into the grass they present themselves, if a human earns there respect in battle they will aid that human as long as they are needed every pokemon that appears in cave, surfing and tall grass canonically wants to be your friend also unless you use a master ball if a pokemon does not want to be caught It Canât Be. itâs only by showing of your skill in battle that a pokemon will want to join you. so even legendaries want to be your friend!! thatâs why some legendary Pokemon (usually ones who present themselves to you) have low catch rates! they respect you and understand you can use there skill for good!
edit cause i remembered: this could also be used to explain why traded pokemon can disobey you, you didnât earn the respect of there actual trainer and so you have to have the right skill level (badges, island challenges) for them to listen and trust you
This whole thing is so pure and way better than âPokemon is superpowered dogfighting!â or whatever.
Pokemon Heritage Post
Quick question, genuine question:
Why on earth does "more than half of US adults under 30 cannot read above an elementary school level" not strike horror into the heart of everyone who hears it?
Are the implications of it unclear????
I'm serious, people keep reacting with a sort of vague dismissal when I point this out, and I want to know why!
If adults in the US cannot read, then the only information they have access to is TV and video, the spaces with the most egregious and horrific misinformation!
If they cannot read, they cannot escape that misinformation.
This obscene lack of literacy should strike fear into every heart! US TV is notoriously horrific propaganda!
Is that???? Not??? Obvious???????
I know this sounds sarcastic, I know it does, but I'm completely serious here. I do not understand where the disconnect is.
Literacy can be broadly categorized into 3 groups. The ability to read words, the ability to read sentences or paragraphs, and the ability to texts a page or longer.
55% of US adults cannot read long texts.
The process of reading the individual sentences is so taxing due to this low literacy that actually synthesizing the total information presented becomes nearly impossible. It requires both holding onto the meaning of each sentence so that you can contextualize it with the next one, AND consciously going through the decode process of interpreting letter and word forms in that next sentence.
In general, children are expected to begin reading long texts for meaning around age 8-10, in elementary school. This is when kids normally swap from short stories to chaptered books.
55% of American adults under 30 cannot read at that level.
We know this not from some short term study or another, but from the collected data of the US Department of Education going back decades.
Reliable estimates of adult literacy and numeracy skills in all 50 states and 3,141 counties, and the District of Columbia using PIAAC surve
This is the same literacy data used internationally to determine literacy rates around the world, not some kind of shock study.
55% of American adults under 30 can't read, and it's explicitly, specifically because our schools refuse to teach them, and effectively haven't been doing so for over a decade nationally and as much as 30 years in some states.
When some children are learning to read, they catch on so quickly that it appears effortless. It does not seem to matter what reading curric
The knock on effects and implications of this are horrific.
I understand that this sounds like some fuckery bullshit because it's such an unfathomably massive problem, but holy shit.
It's very, VERY real.
@firecoloredwater I can't see your replies while I write on mobile so I'm trying to just remember everything you mentioned. I hope this covered most of it?
But, basically, the reading skills to navigate an app menu or read a single sentence are not what's being discussed. The skills to read a newspaper or book, however, are.
I saw this a few days ago and it's been on my mind since.
I don't even need to leave Tumblr to see failed literacy.
I've seen many people, just in the last couple of days, completely misunderstand something and read it in a hostile way based on their own biases rather than in anything the author said.
It's weird and unpleasant when I go to fandom spaces and see someone completely misread a chapter. But when it comes to discussions on bigotry, politics, social justice? That ruins lives.
On a different note, I've started asking myself "am I sure I understand this" when reading dense texts, and taking a few extra seconds per paragraph to mentally summarize what I read to make sure I get it. So, thanks for making me a more conscientious reader, Vees.
Don't think I've seen them all together in one big video like this before

Tomorrow my niece will be taken off the ventilator and put to rest. A 4 year old disabled black little girl. She had so much spark and love in her heart for the people around her. And Covid took that away from us. This could have been prevented had the nurse that came to see her alerted us she had âcoldâ symptoms (which was actually Covid).
This is your reminder to mask up and treat disabled people with respect by helping protect their health.
A reminder that Covid is not just a thing of the past, cases are rising again. Do your part.
(Everyone is encouraged to reblog this, anti maskers will be blocked on sight)
