Engineering teams around the world have been attempting to develop new methods of seawater desalination.
Scientists in China have developed a more efficient form of solar desalination that uses 47.4% less energy than alternatives. After the first year of testing, the scientists believe that at scale it would be able to desalinate water more cheaply than producing bottled water.
The goal is now to scale the technology for use in coastal areas and islands experiencing water insecurity.
if youāre a certain level of tall as a trans woman people will start acting like they genuinely believe itās ok to treat you like transmisogynistic futa porn is real life and youāre the futa
this sounds like an exaggeration but literally i will mention that i'm 10cm taller than someone as a joke about how i can reach a taller shelf at the grocery store or something and the immediate response will almost always be "omg you're tall can you step on me" and i'm being fully serious. i hate it. believe it or not those extra 10cm don't make me want to have sex with every person who is shorter than me and also they don't make me a dom or a top.
has anyone considered that maybe this is sexual harassment? has anyone considered that maybe being taller than you doesn't mean i'm going to act like a futa from porn? has anyone considered that the trans woman might have some dysphoria surrounding height or pressure to be sexually dominant?
teamwork makes the dream work. and dreamwork. makes shrek
fantastic. i love it. i posted this after my wife said it yesterday and as i was doing it i was like "this can't be an original thought. as soon as i hit post someone's going to say 'you stole this from a tweet from 2014' and i'll say 'no, i stole it from my beautiful wife.'"
when i was a kid my parents bought me an inflatable doll of the Scream by Edvard Munch (??) that was significantly taller than i was at the time and i used to slow-dance with it and pretend it was my boyfriend. It had its hands attached to its head obviously so it felt like he was always a bit horrified to be forced to dance with me
i didn't need no imaginary friends i had Screaming Joe right here !
I love this website I love it when people tell us what's wrong with them
do u ever think about corn sweat; and the fact that a large percent of corn grown in Illinois, iowa, etc is grown for ethanol and biofuel; and how solar power would be so many times more effective per acre than this; and how like 90+% of so many rare ecosystems in those states was drained for farm and suburbs (in many cases previously farms).
AND you could still have native plants around and even under the solar panels.
When you see what they did to the Midwest you'll want to fucking kill the corn lobbyists with your bare hands
"You should be happy you have access to shitting your pants!"
I think it's important to note that most of what she says is "we don't know it's lettuce!" which like
Unknown unknowns are a bad reason to say you shouldn't take measures to protect your health
this article
Her other argument is "we have outbreaks every year!" right before she goes on to say the Michigan outbreak alone is 680% more than all of the US for all of last year. Ignore this minimizing claptrap. Yeah, you shouldn't panic, but avoiding health risks until the situation stabilizes isn't panic. Don't let them "It's mild :)" you into making yourself ill just because the unknowns are still unknown.
young old person tip for you all. go get some photos printed (pauses so someone can say bogos binted) and fill out a physical album
and annotate them with who is in the photos and when and where the photos were taken!!! your extended family 50 years from now will be grateful, and so will you if you end up forgetting any details
(sprints into room late, looking harried and frantic as fuck) bogos binted. did I miss it
I donāt know if Iām cooking or if I need to get out of the kitchen, lmao, but here we go:
Iām in my late-twenties; Iām an interdisciplinary artist, and I come from a family of interdisciplinary artists, but I do not come from wealth. Iāve always supported myself through a combination of service industry and local-creative-professional work. Iām quite proud to be a working class artist, and I have met dozens of talented individuals in the exact same boat.
Iāve been hospitalized a few times, and I rely on a car for transportation & income. Both of those things are expensive, and I have outstanding debts in both categories. Iāve never had an issue explaining those debts to, you know, a human person who understands what āI come from povertyā means, but my credit isnāt great, and I have resume gaps that boil down to āa family member diedā or āI had to move suddenlyā or āI was hospitalized and couldnāt work for [x] amount of time afterwards.ā
Againāa lot of people my age, in my tax bracket, are in the exact same boat. Youāll find that itās quite difficult to survive adulthood without eventually encountering an expensive catastrophe.
Individuals are struggling to find consistent work in an industry where, previously, āIām willing to show up and do the dishes without being an assholeā was the gig in totality. At the same time, every other corporate-run restaurant appears to be understaffed, barely functional, and actively attempting to train a gaggle of teenagers who already look like theyāre on the verge of quitting.
āOn paper,ā corporations desire employees who (1) arenāt asking for full-time (or consistent) hours, (2) fit a myopic definition of ālow-riskā rooted in an accumulated assessment of ārisk factorsā and (3) donāt require ongoing investment/support. (All of those āweāll give you benefits and pay for your educationā promises on the door at Taco Bell or whatever are really just designed to trap specific, often vulnerable people in aspiring-middle-management purgatory.)
Corporations are now using AI to relentlessly āfilterā and assess prospective employees.
If you tell The Robot that you want someone with no accumulated risk factors, who doesnāt require full-time hours, AND who is willing to work for minimum wage on an ongoing basisācongratulations, those people exist, but theyāre all seventeen.
The service industry has always had a habit of churning through teenage employees, because these assessments arenāt new; but now, they appear to be happening at a truly nightmarish pace with little-to-no human buffer.
From what I can tell, this is leading to the rapid enshittification of an entire industry. Beleaguered middle managers are dropping like flies because they canāt handle it anymore, and I know, because Iāve talked to some of them. I donāt think corporations realize just how much theyāre fucking themselves over, here? Itās a real āwe keep re-enforcing the parts of the airplane where the bullet holes areā situation.
I finally got a part-time job (through local networking, I gave up on Indeed completely), and Iāve been working extremely hard trying to find ways to use my creative labor to generate income (check out my art, lol), but itās frustrating and a nightmare. I would love to hear perspectives on this from other parts of the US and the world (Iām in Texas, for context) bc The Media seems more concerned with how this is affecting, you know, the higher tax brackets
Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.
Yes, that's really it.
I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
a lot of you think intersectionality means that privilege and marginalization cancel out like pemdas
seeing this post get a little traction and in fear of being misunderstood: this is about allowing yourself to see the irony in your own situation and a short reminder of your own agency. i know its hard but you cant wallow in being a victim of your symptoms by enabling your triggers forever (purposefully doing things you hate & hanging around online environments that just make you feel like shit). quit torturing yourself and go do something fun or talk to a friend
