Some of you guys are like, Be Gay Do Crime, but are also like, Shoplifting makes you evil and you’re personally stabbing into people’s paychecks if you steal
Because you are. Workers especially at smaller stores will get docked pay/hours for thefts. The crimes gays should do is like. Graffiti. Loitering. Violiating bullshit like rainwater collection laws and also political assassinations. Not fucking over Carl at Boxlunch because you wanted the sombra funko pop or whatever
Please stop spreading this lie. It was literally created to pit poor people against poor people. It is illegal for your employer to dock your pay for theft. They are responsible for loss prevention and almost every company has a shrinkage account specifically to cover miscounts, theft, and other inconsistencies in stock. Anyone who has studied accounting or business management knows this.
If your employer EVER docks you for theft that you did not commit, they are in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
It is theft for them to dock or deduct your pay, unless you stole AND they can prove you committed the crime. Go to HR, your union, the police, etc. immediately. Checking out free legal help is also beneficial.
Be gay, do crimes, know your rights.
Okay, bisexual retail worker here. Just because it’s illegal to dock pay for theft, doesn’t mean they can’t make your life miserable in a 1000 other ways. You can be written up for theft on your shift, because you failed to prevent it. Get written up enough, and guess what, you can get fired! Completely legally! They can chew you out, dock your hours, give you shitty shifts, and generally make a terrible work environment for you if they feel that you haven’t been doing your best to prevent theft. But lets assume that you have a great work environment, that your boss is reasonable, and your company is understanding, and everything is hunky dory. Theft still hurts people on the bottom. Yes, every company makes fiscal allowances for theft, but do you think that money is carved out of CEO salaries? That the president shells it out from their pockets? No, it’s money that could have been better spent giving pay raises or benefits to workers, but has to be sequestered to cover theft instead. Also, if theft is exceptionally high, it can start to outweigh the bottom line in small stores. If your margins are already tight, and suddenly you’re not only not making money, but losing it? Well, then your store becomes a liability, and when corporate starts looking to close stores in a crunch, which ones do you think will disappear first, along with all the people who relied on it for jobs? The ones with the highest theft. Also, as someone who’s worked retail for 10+ years, we fucking hate you. If i worked in a grocery store, and people were stealing bread to feed their kids, I’d probably feel differently. Instead, at my store, people stole slime, and pens, and popsockets. Nobody needs those to live. If you steal that shit, you’re saying that your temporary enjoyment is more important than my job security. You’re treating me like I’m stupid, and gullible, and disposable. You are not a hero for the working class, sticking it to the man. You’re an immature fuck getting kicks at my expense. I am the fucking working class, and I’ve never felt vindicated finding a shredded wrapper in my store. Be gay! But don’t do dumb fucking crimes because it makes you feel edgy. Want to help the working class? Protest, advocate, support strikes, support unions, vote, or fuck, just buy us a coffee or tip your waitresses well. Don’t do shitty, self indulgent crimes.
Be Gay, Do Crime is about civil disobedience in the face of unjust laws, not actively breaking just laws because you feel like being ~edgy~.

This is actually recent (June 2019). The link itself looks like it goes to ao3, but it’s a scam that’s been pulled many times before. It will likely redirect you somewhere else where your data will be harvested. If you do this, don’t panic, but change your tumblr password, and I would recommend you change your email password as well, as well as anything connected to it.
For those of you who are curious about the fic, apparently it’s a Eurovision fanfic with some extremely disturbing content. I have not read it myself and do not plan to.
//oh hey, someone that actually explains what the link is. Thank you for that.

Archaeologists: “Uhhhh, there’s still a lot of debate about how effective leather armor really could have been on a battlefield. Alas, we shall never know.”
Punks: “Hey, fresh cut, the boneheads carry knives sometimes so make sure and lift a good leather jacket. It’ll save your life.”
Layers layers layers! Slashes won’t do shit even to most t shirts but a stab will ignore the shit outa your leathers. Layers will keep the blade from getting as deep as it otherwise would and gives more for it to snag on if it serrated.
Armour has always been about layers.
Example 1200s minor noble: linen shirt, gambeson (layered and quilted linen with wool insulation), chain mail, surcoat, arming cap, helmet, coif, bigger helmet.
Another example Alexander era Macedonian hoplite: linen tunic, greaves, 1" of tightly pressed and laminated linen, helmet (probably with some sort of arming cap/padding inside), big ass shield.
Layers save lives.
Yes! Cloth is hard work to cut with a knife. When they were trying to ban (sword) duelling in Europe, they banned people from carrying around shields/bucklers, so your defensive tool was a cloak wrapped around your non-sword fist, with plenty of loose fabric to catch your opponent’s blade. You might get your cloak torn, but you’re less likely to get your skin sliced up, and that’s the important thing.
You know what is a surprisingly amazing material for armor?
Silk.
Silk.
The Mongolians used silk vests because silk isn’t broken by an arrow, and you can use the silk to gently pull the arrow back out, even if it’s barbed. They also often used silk as the backing for leather armor.
The first bulletproof vests were made in Japan and Korea. Out of, yup, silk. Silk could stop black powder bullets, but was rendered obsolete by higher powered modern firearms. A combination of silk and metal was experimented with, but dropped because of the expense of silk.
Franz Ferdinand was wearing one such vest when he was assassinated, but it didn’t help because of where he was hit.
The US military is now looking into something called Dragon Silk, which is spider silk made by GMO silkworms, to make body armor that might be more comfortable than the current kevlar vests.
Silk, people.
So what is being said here is that the ultimate cold weather armor woukd have the bottom layer silk and the top one wool(water resistant, temp regulating, comfortable and quite cheap)
No, it would still probably be silk and leather, with a wool cloak worn over. Leather + silk will stop most things other than modern firearms.

Locking your wheelchair lift and requiring disabled people to find an employee to unlock AND OPERATE it is a direct violation of the ADA.
“The [ADA] Standards require ‘unassisted’ entry and exit from lifts (§410.1). Situations in which platform lifts are locked and require users to request or retrieve a key for operation will not satisfy this requirement for independent operation.”
“Attendant operation, although recognized by the ASME A18.1 Standard, is expressly prohibited by the ADA Standards. Platform lifts must provide ‘unassisted entry and exit from the lift’ (§410.1).”

Smells like a lawsuit waiting to happen…
This is not great, but it’s likely because people are fucking stupid and will screw around with it if it’s not locked up.
[ID: @gavrielabrahams “It’s probably because people were peeing in it.”]
You think people were peeing. In an open wheelchair lift. In the middle of a museum. With public toilets around the corner.
I think not.
But even if people had been peeing in it or otherwise misusing the lift… It. Doesn’t. Matter. It’s not just “not great.” It’s ILLEGAL. It is just as illegal to lock off a wheelchair lift as it is to not provide one to begin with.
The correct response to people peeing in an elevator is never to lock the elevator. It is to provide a toilet. If you think the correct response to any problem is to violate the civil rights of an entire group of people by denying them access, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
Disability rights are civil rights.
You want to know exactly how this went down? Let me tell you a tale.
I was visiting the museum with friends. They went on around the corner while I finished looking at the previous exhibit. I then followed them around the corner only to find I couldn’t get up to the exhibit because the museum AS PART OF THEIR POLICY had illegally locked the lift. My friends didn’t know the lift was locked (why would the lift be locked?) and had no idea that I couldn’t get to them.
Now I, the disabled person, am forced to travel halfway around the building to the front desk to find someone to unlock the lift for me, wait for them to finish what they’re doing, and then travel all the way back to the lift. This was bad enough in a wheelchair. Who else uses lifts? Oh yes. People who struggle to walk. Can you imagine, as a person who struggles to walk, being forced to walk halfway around a building, and then back again, just to access an exhibit? You wouldn’t do it. You’d skip the exhibit. You’ve just been completely denied access.
So finally the museum employee unlocks the lift and then operates it (because yes, they’ve made it so I can’t operate it myself, which is also illegal). I finally get to the top probably ten minutes later, only to find that my friends have finished looking at the exhibit and are heading down again, wondering what has happened to me.
After I’ve gone to all the trouble to get up there, fuck it if I’m not going to look at the damn exhibit. So I look at it, then head back to the lift to go back down, only to find they’ve locked the lift with me at the top and gone back to the front desk.
If one of my friends hadn’t stayed up there with me, I’d probably still be up there. As it was, my friend had to go down the stairs, back around to the front, find an employee, and get them to come back and let me down. Leaving me sitting up there. Alone. For another five minutes.
Now imagine if I had gone to the the museum by myself. Or what if there had been an emergency? You think if there was a fire some museum employee who couldn’t be assed to leave the damn lift unlocked until I had come back down would really have run back into the building to unlock the lift so I could get down? I think not.
Locking an accessibility feature is never the right solution. It is denying access to an entire class of people. Which is ILLEGAL and a CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION.
Disability law is civil rights law.
