The Bather
Tried for a twist on the classic art history trope of the bather :)
I adore this painting. I never ever see my body type represented in art.
Yes!!! And she’s represented as a powerful warrior, not some sexualized voyeuristic fantasy (the way so many classical artists tended to treat the female form). Also, while I’ve seen larger body types occasionally represented in this style, I’ve never seen it done like this–where her size is part of her power (and power, an intrinsic part of her beauty). You see her body–she’s tall, wide, heavy and muscular, and her pose emphasizes all these things–and then you see her helmet, and you realize–oh lord, this is a warrior, and think how physically formidable she must be in her armor, and how, knowing this, she remains formidable even as the viewer goes back to take in the beauty of her bare form.
So yes, I’ve seen some decent and some good art represent larger body types as beautiful. But it is the spectacular art like above that remembers to portray them also as powerful.
I was quiet, not blind
wishing that someone would film the way I'm looking at you right now.
