Was just thinking about this the other day. Yeah I have a favorite seat on the bus (middle of the bus, near the back doors, slightly elevated, facing forward), but I don’t get upset if someone is already sitting there, I just pick one of my other favorite spots. Then I realized that most people probably don’t have a favorite bus seat, let alone a series of backup favorites.

In a period where people already feel trapped by institutions, authoritarianism, inequality, ecological dread, etc., it's no wonder the "your only hope is obliteration" ending is landing so badly. A story that once said: "the world is flawed but worth saving" suddenly pivoting to: "burn it down and maybe something better comes after" doesn't hit me as beautiful and profound. It hits me as bleak and nihilistic.

what genuinely frustrates me is how the good omens fandom immediately dogpiled on the woman who was primarily doing directorial work, while the male writers who, as it turns out, are friends of neil gaiman and openly protective of him are barely being questioned at all. nobody seems interested in asking why they’ve stayed completely silent, avoided interviews, and refused to publicly comment on any of this. It’s incredibly telling how quickly blame gets redirected onto women, even when they weren’t the ones making the core writing decisions. meanwhile the men involved are allowed to disappear into silence without facing the same level of scrutiny or hostility. that double standard is honestly the most depressing part of the entire situation

There's not as much to tell about the second art book, tbh, but I'm happy to recap!

After the first crew-only art book to ever come up for auction sold for ~$3.4k, a second art book appeared only a day or two later on ebay. Unlike the first, this listing was in the form of a buy it now for $3.5k (or best offer) instead of an auction, meaning there was no bidding. It sold at full price very shortly afterwards.

The buyer was revealed to be someone who's well known ('notorious' might be more accurate) in the fandom as the current admin of the r/tangled subreddit. In short, they have a strong history of bigoted and homophobic remarks, socially maladjusted and hostile behavior, and bullying others (refer to this post and its additions for further reading) so this is... unfortunate lmao.

I lament that 2/2 of the books that were ever available to purchase both ended up in the hands of people who hate Cassandra as a character; I'll take the art but it's impossible for me to celebrate the acquisition.

My prev post was commenting on how the buyer of the second book mentioned that they were only able to purchase it because they essentially begged their relative for money. And y'know. Yikes.

kind of crazy that Cardinal Lawrence started the movie having a crisis of faith and depressed about not feeling God’s presence but the moment he decided to try to get over it and try to be Pope anyway God showed up and blasted the roof off the place directly over his head specifically to tell him to sit back down.
