The common response to this is “well, being alive is better than being dead!”, which reflects a hugely disingenuous line of thinking. No one is proposing that we kill children. That would absolutely be morally wrong and the only people who can make the decision that they are better off dead than alive are the people living the lives, in the vast majority of cases (mercy killings are a grey area for me). What pro-choice people say is that preventing a life from taking place can be merciful, especially if that life would be horrid. I don’t know the story behind this particular child or if the parents even considered abortion, but the point is that pregnant people can make that call on their own without the rest of the world telling them what to do. Anti-choicers do not seem to be able to realize that preventing life from occurring and ending a currently ongoing life are not the same. Maybe because they think fetuses are alive like we’re alive? Thing is that fetuses don’t know they exist. In an abortion, they go from feeling nothing to not existing. There is zero difference to them. A born child, on the other hand, would absolutely experience a difference, ergo they are not the same thing. I really wish this child well and I would prefer not to use contextless photos as pro- or anti-choice fodder, but the quote itself is an important one. Being born isn’t always the best option. -V

Why Choose Acturian Academy?

There have been attempts at academies like ours in the past which have failed due to poor planning, rude and inaccessible staff, and drama. Acturian Academy mentors and staff have been professionally trained in conflict-resolutions and crisis management training. (These certificates are on file with the academy, if you would like to see them please message Ambrose Ophelia (@nyx-witch on Tumblr)). Mentors must also have a semester’s worth of their classes finished and scheduled before they are added to our list of classes. (All mentors currently listed have syllabi available for their classes, which will be provided on the first day of classes. If you would like to see one prior to class start, please message the same mentor listed.) We aim to have a fun, safe, and drama-free environment providing education!

Mission Statement of the Academy

Acturian Academy was created to fulfil a need that our creator, administrator, and fellow mentor, Ellie saw. Those of us who have joined the academy as mentors agree with the growing needs of witchcrafts online community when we look out we see a community that’s closed off, not bringing anything new, and is hard to traverse as a beginner at any age. Here at the Academy, we are attempting to take the obstacles away.

Our main goal is to provide gathered and softly guided information on different aspects of the craft. We are not a religion based school but we do wish to encourage spiritual growth. We hope that those who join the academy walk away with plenty of resources and that, when the time is right for them, are fully prepared to practice and personalize their own craft.

The academy name is so much more than a name. This academy name is a badge that is supposed to represent honour and education. We want to be a safe place of guidance for witches new and old.

Students must be 12+ years of age and have parental permission. This academy operates under the jurisdiction of United States law, which states that in order for a child to be taught anything regarding the concept of religion they must have parental consent. By checking the box on the application which states that you qualify under both of those conditions, you are stating that you take full responsibility that these are true statements.

Qualifications: Prospective Mentors preferably have two or more years experience in their field of study, be 15 years of age or older, and must undergo training and pass with 80% or higher. Once a mentor has signed on with Acturian Academy, the contract being signed holds them to a standard of teaching which states that they must have a semester or more of their class ready before their class will be listed as available to take.

I know this isn’t usually my thing, nor do I even have a lot of followers but I do believe and hope this can get shared. Defy Media shut down without notice to the 50 of its channels that is employed to them. 1.7 million dollars were taken from the deserving youtubers who made that money. The money stolen has been repo’ed by Allied Bank and will be used to pay off the Defy Media operator’s debts in means of priority first and not back to the youtubers .This means that if a channel is at the bottom of that priority list, they won’t get their money  .Youtubers deserve more. Help spread this and help regain their money back

Alright Buckos, let’s get this straight.

I had a fight earlier about the “fact” that you can’t use any type of essential oils around or on your dog/animals. That’s a lie. Of course, with everything there are rules to it that need to be followed, no questions asked. If this guy would have taken two seconds to research this, he would have stopped fighting with me and stopped his spread of misinformation. This is a picture of my DOGS shampoo.(Sorry for the lighting) Now if you would so kindly look at it ingredients, do you see it? *CHAMOMILE EXTRACT* , AKA chamomile essential oil. And to top this off, Chamomile on a dogs skin is what started this mess. Essentials oils can be helpful and harmful to pets, to find that out all you have to do is RESEARCH what you want to use and follow the rules for it. For example, I have a cat so naturally I RESEARCHED what I could use around my cat and dogs since they both go into my room on a daily basis. I wanted Lemon, but I learned that citrus around cats and dogs can be harmful or annoying to them considering that their nose would pick up more of the scent, and that you had to “warm it up to them” by starting with one or two drops in the diffuser at first then work your way up, and way more water than oil. Another example, Simply by RESEARCHING the oil I wanted to diffuse or use, in this example Tea Tree, I found out that Tea tree oil is very harmful to animals and that it could cause serious brain damage and seizures if exposer occurred. Now, because I was told to drop it, there is an entire chat full of misinformed people. Moral of my rant, research what the hell you’re defending.

yo i’ve never made any posts but i made this potion/spell thingy today and it was super nice and relaxing so i thought i’d post it here on tumblr dot fuckin com for all y’all witches!!

you will need 🍋

warm toned flowers (i used yellow to improve my happiness and friendships :))

lemon juice

honey

sun water

lemon essential oil/fragrance (optional)

directions ✨

crush up /break apart flowers petals

add in honey , lemon juice, and lemon fragrance

add a bit of warm water to dissolve the honey into the mixture

fill up the rest of your container with sun water or regular water

enjoy!

uses 💛

add to a bath (i did that n felt Quite energized yet relaxed afterwards)

make into a spray/mist

add on others cause i’m not super into potions and their uses !!

Smoky quartz can be used to protect against all forms of bad luck and to enhance energy flow through the hands. It increases creativity and intuition and transforms depression and pessimistic thought into joy and optimism. For some reason in Autumn I’m always drawn towards this crystal and I always place a few pieces of smoky quartz on my altar for Samhain. Tips for Fall

We all don’t like it when the dark half of the year rolls around beacause once, Yuletide has passed we are left with those depressing last few months of winter.

Well, even if we must deal with it, at least we can make our last scraps of Fall last. Here are some ideas and tips for that last month of Fall.

Collect leftover acorns, remove their caps and arrange them on a piece of paper to say something  like “ fall”. Glue and place in an open frame, or hang it on the wall.. Really fun idea for those crafty witches out there!

Use the fallen leaves in your magick, or use them as a decoration for your alter.

Rock those fall clothes! Fall is my favorite time of year, not only for its beautiful colors but because fall offers the cutest clothes in my opinion!

Take time to reflection on the past months as we go into the darker, reflective months. Try to fit in what you weren’t able to accomplish.

Hang out with some friends, grab a coffee, or just go out on a walk. It may be chilly but getting out there before all the snow comes will be beneficial, trust me.

As thanksgiving soon rolls around think out what you’re thankful for. it doesn’t even have to be a complete list just yet.

As I said, Thanksgivings come up, so try to incorporate some magick into your gathering or on the day before.

Carve a pumpkin! I know it’s more of a Samhain/ Halloween thing but most pumpkins will be on discount for you to grab so do it while ya can!

Hangout with Family. Enjoy people while they’re here. Not on a phone but in real time, spend some quality time with them. Trust me you won’t regret it.

This is just my take on some thing and ideas you can do for that last remaining month of Fall. I hope you enjoy.

BWA has a schedule for our classes.

BWA has 11 week class periods with 2-week breaks between each. For the year of 2018 BWA classes start on December 22nd you can apply from now to 12/15/18 so here is the schedule:

1st application period: Now - 12/15/18

1st class period: 12/22/18 - 03/02/18

2nd application period: 03/03/19 - 03/14/19

2nd class period: 03/16/19 - 05/25/19

3rd application period: 05/26/19 - 06/06/19

3rd class period: 06/08/19 - 08/03/19

4th application period: 08/04/19 - 08/15/19

4th Class period: 08/17/19 - 10/02/19

Mentor’s Break: 10/03/19 - 12/08/19

You can apply to the school and receive the discord link at any time but we have specific times when you can apply for classes.

There is a classes page that shows you all the classes you can take once you apply you gain access to the enrollment applications YOU CAN ONLY APPLY TO 5 CLASSES AT A TIME. 

How classes work:

Classes are on google classrooms where a lesson is posted weekly at a specific day and time. Here are answers to some frequent questions about classes:

Will there be homework?

Maybe. Some mentors assign homework some don’t bother but either way it goes it is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL so don’t stress

What if I miss the lesson?

You won’t. These lessons are open and available at any time for you to view so trust me you will not miss a lesson.

Will I be kicked out if I miss lessons?

No. Because you will not miss a lesson. I will go over reasons you will be kicked out though.

Are the classes Wiccan/pagan based?

Nope. BWA is not religion based

Rules of the academy:

• NO bigotry or discrimination is allowed on any kind. This includes racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, antisemitism, transphobia, Islamophobia, etc.

• NO hating on witches for their individual paths.

• If you violate any of these guidelines, you have 3 chances before you are banned from the academy if you are reported by 2+ people.

• We do not tolerate hate in this community. 

• Be active.

• NO Advertising other servers

If you fail to follow these rules and have received 3 warnings you will be suspended for 24-48 hours if this happens twice you will be suspended for a week if it happens a third time you will be expelled.

So, us mentors do a lot of work and there is always more to be done and that is where student council comes in. For the student council, we need creative independent people to get active in the discord or start things up on the site there will be a list of all the jobs and the responsibilities. After you apply we will interview you personally and give you a job.

Tips for the Dark Half of the Year

Winter is coming quickly. A lot of people see this time of year as bleak, depressing, or just boring. Here are some tips to stay attuned to nature during these months.

❄️ Go outside. Even if it’s cold, the trees are bare, and the only colors are muted and dull. We often think that summer is the only time to enjoy the outdoors—the only time to hike, meditate outside, etc. In winter, there are no lush green trees or balmy days filled with sunshine and the smell of flowers. While summer is intoxicating, winter is a time to contemplate and reflect. Go outside. Feel the cold. Feel the mud and the dead grass and the chilly wind. Listen to how quiet it is. Understand that the dark half of the year is a time of silence, stillness, and death. It’s natural to have an aversion to these things, but take some time to sit down and just listen. Breathe. Feel the reality of silence and death around you. It’s a sobering experience, but also a very insightful one. If you have any fear of death or quiet, now is the time to go sit with those things as they appear in nature and just meditate with them.

❄️ Eat cozy foods. It’s cold outside—warm up with hearty soups, stews, homemade bread, and root veggies. Warm spices and hot drinks will keep you feeling grounded. This is a wonderful time of year to practice kitchen witchcraft—focus on coziness, family, protection, and rest.

❄️ Study magic! The Dark Half of the year is devoted to self-reflection, rest, and contemplation. Snuggle up indoors with a fluffy blanket and devote some time to studying magic and witchcraft with a hot cup of magically-brewed tea.

❄️ Think spirits are sleeping along with all the greenery? Think again! The Dark Half of the year, in many cultures and spiritual traditions, is considered extremely spiritually active. Deities like Odin, Berchta, Hekate, and spirits such as elves and ghosts are very active this time of year. You can choose to honor them if you want, or practice various spirit-working techniques. If you’re into necromancy or divination, this is a wonderful time of year for those things.

❄️ Be kind to local wildlife by installing things like bird feeders outside your home. We modern humans may have an easy time of it in winter, but animals struggle to survive during these months. Any bit of kindness will be much appreciated.

❄️ Nurture your fire energy. During winter, it’s easy to internalize the cold and take on its characteristics—sluggishness, sleepiness, a foggy-headed feeling. Some crystals that are great for winter include golden rutilated quartz (aka Venus hair), citrine, carnelian, obsidian, and garnet. All of these crystals contain a strong fire element as well as offer grounding qualities, mental clarity, and protection.

❄️ Go out and forage for magical ingredients! Melted snow is extremely purifying and can be incorporated into spells for purification and cleansing. Icicles can serve as temporary wands, especially in spells that require a strong water element. The ash from bonfires (or hearth fires) can be used to make black salt. Fallen branches can be crafted into wands. There may be nothing growing this time of year, but you can get creative and still find magical ingredients in unexpected places. Just be respectful and don’t collect from places where it’s illegal!

This is by no means a comprehensive list—these are just some ways I’ve celebrated the colder months. I hope they’re helpful in any way!
